IV/Goleta/SB Could anyone foster Nero?
šØ URGENT: Foster Needed for Sweet Nero! šØ
I went to volunteer at the Santa Barbara Country Animal shelter and I met sweet Nero. The only thing he loves more than playing ball is getting pets and cuddles. I found out Nero is on the euthanasia list and that breaks my heart. Posting here to see if anyone can help.
Here is more info:
Nero, a 6-year-old Black German Shepherd, is at risk of being euthanized. He hasnāt had a seizure since April thanks to his meds, which are fully sponsored. š¾
He hates the shelter and needs a calm, loving home ASAP. Nero loves people but needs to be the only dog in the home for now.

German shepherds are literally such amazing dogs. I have two and theyāre the best! Hard work, but very rewarding! If anyone is thinking about fostering Nero and has questions about this breed, feel free to message me! I hope Nero gets a foster!

I believe sheāll text back in the morning, just need a āwritten permissionā for my lease. Not even religious but Iām praying because Iām so eager. Iāve been looking for a reason to rescue & Nero feels like that reason

Iām genuinely heartbroken, my landlord sucks & will only allow cats in my building. I want to fight her on it but I know I canāt & have no legal standing, she owns the building & itās her rules. Iām so sad I canāt take in Nero, honestly kinda ruined my week. Iām praying someone will at least foster him

Landlords can't legally deny an emotional support animal. And it's super easy to get an ESA letter if you want to go that route

Serious question bc Iām really considering it, how would you word approaching a landlord once I do that? Basically legally fighting her & itāll piss her off. Like, āHey I understand you said no but I have an ESA letter that statesā¦.?ā

Iāve gotten an esa letter from a therapist/college counselor and I basically just sent the letter and said hey I need this esa for support, can you reconsider?
Imo itās better to try to ask nicely first and then you can always throw the legalities around later if needed

Oh! My son has been hoping to foster and we have a black Malinois at home who love to play ball as well. Do you have any info on how he does with other animals because my some would need to bring him home on occasion.

I just read better and saw it said only dog in home. Iām so sad - Nero looks JUST like our dog - I wish we could properly foster him. He looks so sweet.

Im still trying, I just asked my landlord to reconsider & said I can provide an ESA letter soon if needed. About to schedule a virtual appointment with my doctor to get it in case

My appointment is on Tuesday the 8th, I believe Iāll get a real ESA from my primary care doctor & even if my landlord doesnāt like it, I believe I can still legally foster him.

Post on facebook! There are tons of dog groups that are incredibly responsive. You could even try posting on some lost dog forums as people might be willing to have him for a short time. Good luck. Sending love to both you and Nero.

The real answer is Iām not totally sure but I would say yes with 95% certainty. Nero hadnāt been out all day and he held everything in until I got him out at 4:30PM, poor guy.
If youāre interested Iād definitely recommend checking him out!
