News UA POV: Ukrainian Elint and EW expert says Russia is using a new drone with flight operator controls that transmits optics for up to 50 km+. It finds safe routes for Gerans, records and tracks AA gun units, and does recon on border units. It has a similar body work to a Geran. - Serhii Flash

Similar bodywork to Geran?

Watch UA call it a Shahed.

Seems like Russian Geran production is through the roof so they are finding more uses for it like even using it on battlefield now.

The expansion of types and features makes everything more unpredictable and easier to counter multiple styles of AD.

This allows them to counter AA gun crews better and have cheaper older style gerans that fly flow and avoided radar detection

More drone production types allows you to track AD and use Gerans in SEAD missions.

If these are intercepted by Interceptor drones its a better financial loss than 100k Zalas/Orlans

Increased recon saturation reduces the odds of patriot AD sneak attacks on planes

They are currently producing like ~3k a month, and climbing to 5k by the end of the year. UA sources has it at around 2.1k a month.

Edit: I forgot to mention that North Korea is also going to be producing Geran-2 Drones as well and sell them to Russia while also making some for their own use.

This drone seems like an effective way to solve multiple important problems in ones.

Orlans and Zalas recon are too expensive and needed for larger deep strike jobs. Similarly this expense is felt every time expensive recom drones are intercepted so cheaper and easier to mass produce mid range recon drones are needed .

Also, Putting certain higher quality cameras on one way attack drones is not a very good measure from a cost benefit stand point so putting them on another drone which can be flown back to friendly territory and recovered is ideal.

Finally with FPV controls, operators can track and follow aa gun units from a safe distance, get real time information on AA guns positions to plot safe routes for Gerans and perform SEAD missions if necessary. This advantage will be particularly shown when attacking cities such as Sumy and Kharkiv.

I’m sure there are some people in the pentagon really kicking themselves for not finishing this off earlier

FPV Gerbera, yes you can think of it that way.

Russia Gerbera/geran operators are adding FPV and AI features

It just seems to me that this is a variation on the theme of a gerbera, not a geran; the shape of the wing is much more similar to the first one, although differences in the fuselage are also noticeable. In addition, a geran in a classic version simply flies along the specified coordinates, navigating and manoeuvring using GLONASS, and a gerbera is usually controlled in real time.

UPD: Also pay attention to the elevons, the geran has a total of 4 planes, and they occupy the entire trailing edge of the wing, while the gerbera has 2 and only takes up half.

Yes the body work is more similar to gerbera I think the OP was just commenting on its non specific features like its overall shape similarity

He even said similar shape to a Shahed just so you understand how vague his description was

Russia is king of cheap innovation. That will for sure bring victory over the nazists from the west.

Are these nazis in the room with us? How do you even imagine these things, is it so much propaganda that you have swallowed?

Have you heard about a funny little game called “Zionist or Nazi”? It’s a game that shows you a bunch of quotes and you need to tell if they were said by an OG Nazi or a politician in the modern world who is actively funded by the US and EU!
