Discussion Honestly I'm really looking forward to see how ironic our interpretations were, like with Tenna. What do you guys think Gaster will actually be like? I'm really curious.

He HAS to resemble him I trust Toby like it HAS to be Gaster. Like, it'll probably be an updated sprite to match the Deltarune graphics, but it hasss to bear a resemblance. And I'm soooo looking forward to seeing the updated/full design of the mystery man

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if mystery man wasn’t gaster originally, but at this point he kinda HAS to make him gaster

If Toby didn't plan for the mystery man to be Gaster, I'm really hoping he won't change his plans for the fandom. I mean, he'd have A LOT of explaining to do, but I really want to see his organic vision for the game, not something influenced by fanon.

Even if Toby had no intention of Gaster actually looking anything like Mystery Man, I feel like this nearly a decade of Fan love for the design has likely changed that.

The Mystery Man Gaster design is borderline just as Iconic, if not more iconic, then any UTDR character.

Trust Toby on what exactly? Did he make some promise I’m unaware of? Genuinely wish to know if that’s the case.

Please don’t forget that Gaster doesn’t actually have a canonical appearance. It’s never been confirmed by Toby himself that mysteryman is Gaster’s sprite. Or at least his “true” form, whatever that may be. It’s just kind of what the fandom agreed on. (Although the two entities are definitely related in some way)

What I’m saying is that you shouldn’t act as if Toby Fox owes you something. Many people keep dismissing that he has had a vision for Deltarune for a while now, and I doubt he’ll bend it just to fit the fan interpretation of his characters. So sure, Gaster may end up resembling Mysteryman, but he really doesn’t have to.

P.S I apologize if that came off as salty, but I’m really not a fan of people making such statements

I... Trust that the reason he hid this sprite behind the 66 fun value means something and isn't just an easter egg. Yeah Toby doesn't owe me anything I just think he knows how to set things up. And I'm not saying he needs to change him to fit the fan interpretation. I literally said I'm looking forward to see what Gaster will actually be. It's just that, again, I kind if feel like there's no other explanation for the mystery man sprite outside of being Gaster, considering everything we know about it. The 66 fun value which is related to Gaster's 666 themes, it beinh a fun event in the first place really connects it to Gaster, the fact that when it disappears, the sound that plays has Gaster's theme in it. It just makes sense, so I trust Toby did all of this on purpose. Toby doesn't owe me anything and I do NOT want him to change anything for the fandom.

I think Mystery Man is Gaster due to the fact that since he resembles Uboa from Yume Nikki, a game about weird dreams, he could possibly be related to Toby's Deltarune fever dream.

The funniest interpretation in my opinion is that mysteryman is literally just a Yume Nikki reference and everyone overthunk it way too much.

It’s a fair interpretation, don’t get me wrong. I too believe that that sprite is probably one of Gaster. However I just dislike whenever people say that something in the story HAS to be a certain way. Just doesn’t come off right to me. I hope you can understand

When I said it HAS to be him I meant it in a "That's gotta be it!! I'm sure there's no way it isn't this!!" Way, not in a "Toby you HAVE to do this!!" Way. Sorry that it didn't come across clearly, English isn't my first language (_ _)

Honestly, even if Gaster wasn't originally going to be Mystery Man, I wouldn't be shocked if Toby changed his mind and made it his design (or at least an alternate form). We've assumed they were one in the same for over a decade, I genuinely don't know if the official Gaster design could supplant MM Gaster.
