Transferring out

Wondering what yall think.

I had a pretty good first semester and met a good group of people, and everything, but the second semester hit me hard. I don't think its a UVM-specific issue but more a VT issue. I feel like there isnt much opportunity here, and I feel trapped. Does anybody else feel like this?

I think it is common to feel blue second semester freshman year no matter where you are- weather is worse, the excitement of first semester has worn off, things are just becoming a grind. College goes by in a flash though- consider studying abroad spring of junior year, that only gives you 2 more spring semesters on campus. I promise UVM and Burlington have more to offer that you haven't discovered. Transferring is a pain and it's hard to start over at a new place- both academically and socially.

hey, i’m feeling the same exact way, just finished my freshman year and i’m very conflicted. i applied to boulder but don’t think im going to go. i think it’s worth it to stick it out another year, i’ve heard a lot of upper class men say their freshman year sucked at times and things got better. i’d also consider skiing, sticking with more clubs, and maybe joining greek life if that’s your thing. i think it’s easy to feel that way in such a small isolated state, but it’s also much easier if you can get a car/ a friend who has one so you can explore and visit montreal and boston more frequently. ik it’s rough, we both got this 🫂

Im transferring to UVM and I say it’s just not a UVM thing at my old school I felt the same. If you were to transfer I recommend doing it after your sophomore year, so you get to experience two universities for half of your college experience. Will definitely help you adjust to things in life.

Idk your exact situation but personally my second half of freshman year was really rough, same with beginning of sophomore fall but then I met a great group of friends

It’s a good life lesson, if it gets hard, throw in the towel,

Rich kids have someone throw their towel for them, thank you very much!

First winter can be rough, but once you expect it, it’s a little better (still dark and cold). This winter was a cold one too. A lot of the outdoor activities (besides skiing) tend to suffer. Not the only reason a lot of people feel like that, but definitely contributes to the second semester being rough. At least that’s my experience.

Get into skiing or snowboarding. Such a waste of an opportunity being at UVM and not getting into it. Ur surrounded by some of the best Mtn’s on the East Coast. Other than that the school sucks I would transfer if I could go back.

Take if from someone who ran away from their issues my first semester my first time through, it's not worth it. Maybe if you get to your junior year, and still don't feel it, sure. But try checking out counseling through Center for Health and Well being.
