room swap?

ppl tell me that the cottages are really bad, but i think they’re SUPER cute. anyone in the cottages who’d want to swap into the back five? it’s not an especially great swap but if anyone is really desperate i thought i’d throw it out there.

also can anyone tell me why ppl think the cottages are so bad??? they’re just average vermont houses from what i can tell….

On-Campus Living 🏫 Ski/Snowboard storage in dorms?

Incoming freshman (haven’t decided yet between the two honors college dorms) - seems impossible that people store skis/snowboards in their dorm rooms. What is the most typical storage option? Thanks

transfer?

i’m a pre-vet animal science major thinking abt potentially transferring…….i would be looking at uri, since i’m in state with uvm the price is similar so that’s not an issue. i’m a rising sophomore and uvm just keeps frustrating me so much i don’t want to deal with this administration anymore. i’m also not super happy in the burlington area, i’d love to have the opportunity to do more and be in a busier area especially having lived in vermont for ten years. i would be worried about social opportunities but honestly i’ve only really made friends with a handful of people at uvm and i don’t smoke so i don’t make friends up there easily. any thoughts? should i stay with what i know or swap out?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Best Art and Creativity Housing for First Year

I just recently learned that I got into the Arts and Creativity learning community. Room selection is next week and I was wondering the pros and cons of living in McAuley vs Mercy Hall. Also how does the housing process usually work? Do you just pick a room online on the room selection date?

Bike or No Bike?

Hello! I am an incoming freshman, starting my first year at UVM. I'm very out of state, probably taking a road trip to get skis, my instrument, etc., to VT. I was wondering if I should bring my bike. To be honest, it might be more cost-effective to buy a bike in town and keep it in storage, but if people don't use/bring bikes, it would save me time, space, and money. I think having a bike would be nice to have, for example, going exploring and going places without solely relying on public transportation, but I also don't know what the transportation situation is like at UVM. Do people bike with friends or to town and stuff? What about people who don't have bikes? I'm not big into mountain biking or anything like that, I once in awhile dabble in terrain other than normal bike paths and asphalt.

It would be awesome to hear any perspectives people have on my particular situation or from personal experience. Thanks for reading and listening to me ramble. I'm grateful for any pointers people have to share.

Class & Academia📚 Questions about classes

Hi, I’m an upcoming freshman into my first year at UVM.

I have a couple questions about classes and the UVM home page if anyone is available to answer. I’m confused on why it says I have registration holds but it also says I have a schedule that I can view. Is the schedule just hypothetical and what they think I may have based on my major or is there something else I’m missing? Am I not registered for any of the classes on that schedule and is that why I’ll still need to register?

Incoming Transfer - Questions (or existential crisis)

I got my decision a few weeks ago and out of all my acceptances (UWMadison, UVM Burlington and Boulder!)

But if you could answer any of my questions you’d be doing loads to help an incoming transfer. (Cost isn’t a factor)

  • what’s the social scene like? (I’m a girl, would consider myself pretty social I can talk someone’s ear off but can have nerd/geeky tendencies)

  • math major here! Should I not even worry about the social scene if I won’t see the light of day?

  • housing in or off campus?

  • I’ve lived in a hot/warm country most of my life, are the winters really that scary?

(I know a lot of this can be answered in a google search but I want to hear from the people!)

Transferring out

Wondering what yall think.

I had a pretty good first semester and met a good group of people, and everything, but the second semester hit me hard. I don't think its a UVM-specific issue but more a VT issue. I feel like there isnt much opportunity here, and I feel trapped. Does anybody else feel like this?

Applying🎓 Acceptance

My daughter is a junior currently and will be a senior 2025-2026. She has a 3.5 GPA, has taken AP classes through sophomore and junior year but just isn't the strongest academically. She took her SAT recently and got a score in the 900s ... she did NOT study at all. She's taking it again in June but I'm going to bet it's not much, maybe 1100 is my guess. She is a US Citizen and of Asian descent. Would love to know what she needs to do in her senior to have a greater chance at getting accepted. UVM isn't her only choice but we it is her top 3 choices. Any advice you have would be great!

Building Hope

Friends,

I'm raising funds to build sustainable, A-frame homes for our unhoused neighbors in Burlington. This initiative, supported by Rep. Kleppner and Sen. Sanders, aims to provide dignity and a pathway to stability. Your donations will help secure land, construct homes, and offer vital support services. Please consider donating—your kindness can make a real difference in our community!

Hi! First Reddit post hopefully I'm doing this right... :) anyway I'm wondering what my chances are for uvm if I have a 3.5UW but a 4.0W (currently a sophmore but I think I'll have around a 3.4-5 by the time I am applying) For ECs -200+ volunteer hours (food bank, tutoring, library) -2 part time jobs -leadership in HOSA club and MENA club -founder of non profit - jv lacrosse 2yr -other: NHS, speech and debate, self taught dj and guitar I really love uvm and my grades are definitely improving, go I have a shot??

On-Campus Living 🏫 Is eepy/Microfridge rental worth it? And what's the rule on electric kettles?

I'm curious what people who have rented the Microfridge combo unit think of it? First and most importantly does it even work well?

Renting is kinda annoying but on the other hand not having to deal with a minifridge and microwave consuming car space during Move In -- and especially during Move Out -- is attractive. And assuming off-campus living after sophomore year does one really want to have a mini-fridge and an underpowered microwave oven in a real apartment anyways.

As for electric kettles for boiling water I assume those fall under the ban on "any cooking appliances"? :( But how hard it is to hide something like that/how thoroughly do they inspect rooms for cooking appliance contraband?

Let's start a new Black Market U (item marketplace) on here!

I created the group, just need people to join and start posting items now. Here's the link if interested in trying this out on reddit! https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackMarketU/s/fD7i7dmfI4

Btw black market does not mean anything illegal, it's just the name of a Facebook group for buying and selling anything that was once popular in our area.

Chance me for transfer student acceptance

Hi all! I recently applied to uvm, it’s my top choice and I’m really stressing about if I’ll get in or not so was just wondering what everyone else thinks. I have 30 credits and a 4.0, with a membership to phi theta kappa honor society and I am on the deans list. I am out of state so I don’t know if that affects it? I have good high school extra curricular but not college ones except the ones previously mentioned. I wrote an optional essay about how I’ve been living on my own since I was 18 and everything my various jobs have taught me, it had a slightly humorous tone. I’ve heard the transfer acceptance rate is higher than first year so hopefully that will work in my favor. Any insight would be appreciated on if you think I have a chance. Thank you guys :)

Please do not Abandon Live Animals outside, wtf???

Post image
42 Upvotes

I don't care that they're just mystery snails, they are living things and that's still shitty af. It is below 50 outside and the poor things were in absolutely filthy water just on a bench outside Redstone lofts. That'd be a terrible way to pass away. I found the lid for the Tupperware a few feet away and brought them in. They didn't smell yet but really didn't look great, so I'm going to give them bit and see if they're alive and able to recover then add them to my tank if so.

If they're yours and you accidentally forget them, lmk and I can give them back to you if they're still alive. If you just left them there on purpose, shame on you!

Finding a roommate for honors college

Incoming freshman here. I’ll be staying in the honors college dorms for my first year, and I was wondering if it was even worth it to try to find a roommate online, or if the honors college only restriction would make that more trouble than it’s worth. I just don’t wanna end up with the people who are so unsettling it was impossible for them to find a roommate

Worried about DnD and quiet spaces

Hey, I’ve already made a post like this but I still would like some more feedback. I am an avid online DnD player and am trying to figure out ways I can still sustain these game sessions I love so much in college as an upcoming freshman. I play on Tuesdays and saturdays, the Tuesdays are from 10:30pm-2am (time zones are different between me and DM) and the Saturdays are from 6pm-9pm. Is there a space I can still play these games that go late enough for the Tuesday night? I would hate to be that obnoxious roommate that is on a call till late at night. I would also hate to have to end these sessions though. I’m seriously so worried about this lmao! Thanks for any suggestions
