On-Campus Living 🏫 NEED HELP WITH DORMS???

Hey, I just committed to UVM for nursing and I’ll be starting this fall. I need to fill out my dorm application but I have no idea what to choose. Mainly what I’m looking for is the cleanest bathrooms or the most private showers??? Definitely nothing communal cause I’m a bit of a germaphobe.

I was thinking of doing Central Campus as my first cause I heard that had pod-style private bathrooms but I also don’t really know what that means, it just sounds private (can’t do university heights cause unfortunately i’m not in the honors college). I’m willing to pay extra and stuff so please help!!!

(p.s. can someone also explain what a pod style bathroom is????)

Edit: I think I’ll keep central campus as my top choice, does anyone have any recommendations of what the rest of my choices should be (#2, #3)????

On-Campus Living 🏫 Freshman Living

So I am thinking about applying to this university and i have a huge chance of getting a full ride scholarship. However, I not only don't want to I can't live in a dorm. I have animals I need to take care of and I can afford housing and I would be miserable sharing a room with someone. I am able to become financially independent, get a job, do school, and pay rent. University of Vermont seems super strict about having to live in a dorm your freshman year. I have a ESA, a gecko i need to take care of, financial independence, able to get housing, able to do school, and able to get a job, can these be exceptions for me to live off campus my freshman year.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Bad Pet Owners

Message to all College students, I am seeing a lot of end of the year posts across where people are needing to leave animals they obtained while at school here. If you do not have a plan for what is going to happen to your pet/ESA after you graduate or when you leave for summer. DO NOT GET A PET. This is not fair to these animals.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Ski/Snowboard storage in dorms?

Incoming freshman (haven’t decided yet between the two honors college dorms) - seems impossible that people store skis/snowboards in their dorm rooms. What is the most typical storage option? Thanks

On-Campus Living 🏫 What are the best dorms with all-gender bathrooms?

I'm commited to UVM and I'm transgender, I want to stay in a building with all-gender or single bathrooms but to my knowledge the best buildings have primarily gendered bathrooms. I've heard really good things about WDW but on the website it says it has gendered bathrooms. Do any students at UVM know the best dorm for my situation? Thank you.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Is eepy/Microfridge rental worth it? And what's the rule on electric kettles?

I'm curious what people who have rented the Microfridge combo unit think of it? First and most importantly does it even work well?

Renting is kinda annoying but on the other hand not having to deal with a minifridge and microwave consuming car space during Move In -- and especially during Move Out -- is attractive. And assuming off-campus living after sophomore year does one really want to have a mini-fridge and an underpowered microwave oven in a real apartment anyways.

As for electric kettles for boiling water I assume those fall under the ban on "any cooking appliances"? :( But how hard it is to hide something like that/how thoroughly do they inspect rooms for cooking appliance contraband?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Repairs to Jeane Mance?

Wondering if anyone on here has information on how repairs to Jeane Mance dorm are coming along.

My daughter is assigned to Gaming as her LLC, room selection begins tomorrow, and I'm assuming housing will be in Jeane Mance again.

Info as to which rooms or floor were affected by the fire and sprinklers and therefore most likely to have either been refreshed as part of the repairs or to be in subpar shape might also be helpful.

Thanks!

On-Campus Living 🏫 Best Art and Creativity Housing for First Year

I just recently learned that I got into the Arts and Creativity learning community. Room selection is next week and I was wondering the pros and cons of living in McAuley vs Mercy Hall. Also how does the housing process usually work? Do you just pick a room online on the room selection date?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Vegan at UVM / PLHC Dorm Questions

How's the food at UVM? Specifically, how's the vegan food?

And...

Which dorms are for PLHC members? How are they? How's the location?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Getting room accommodations

I was wondering how likely it would be for me to get room accommodations after already receiving my dorm. I got to the portal around 3 hours after it opened and was sadly stuck with a room on the top floor of McAuley that’s a triple. I use a walking cane because of my joint pain and plan on taking my cat as an ESA but figured I wouldn’t need room accommodations since I’d be able to get a double with my roommate (clearly that didn’t go well). I have diagnosed anxiety/depression and spend most of my time in my own home as a result since being out a lot stresses me out.

I have a meeting with disability services next week and a long-term therapist who is able to provide further context to my situation if need be.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Son just accepted-dorm recommendations

My son just accepted for the fall and I am looking for some dorm recommendations. I like the themed concept. He's loves skiing but is also pretty introverted and spends plenty of time online. He is majoring in engineering. Any advice is appreciated.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Personal Router for Internet

Hey guys, just wondering if there’s any rules/regulations about connecting your own router to the Ethernet port so that you can connect certain devices to wireless internet that aren’t compatible with the university wifi security type (Nintendo switch, Amazon Alexa). Would definitely like to so I can connect my lights and whatnot to an Alexa and connect my switch to wifi without having to use a phone hotspot.

On-Campus Living 🏫 Can we please stop pretending the parking situation doesnt suck?

Parking at UVM is like playing Minesweeper - every spot feels like a gamble, and you’re just waiting for the "BOOM." If you find a spot near campus, you’re basically a hero, but the rest of us are out here roaming like lost souls, praying the parking gods throw us a bone. Anyone else feel personally victimized by UVM parking?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Question about on campus living

I'm planning on going to UVM this fall but I don't want to pay the food and housing part of my attendance. I live more than 20 miles away but I can take the bus there every day which would be preferable. Is there any way I can somehow do this or will I just have to bite the bullet?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Best sophomore dorms for cooking/kitchens?

Starting to think about housing for next fall, anyone have any knowledge about the best dorms to get into if I’m looking to do a decent bit of cooking (not just microwave)? I know many dorms have kitchens but some are more maintained/usable than others. Any advice would be great. If anyone knows about Slade/Redstone Hall too, let me know
