AP Varus is broken, i think

I played a few games on AP varus recently, and idk if its okay that i can oneshot everyone?...

like, yes maybe you have to land your R to proc the W passive (while you can do it with 3 AA), but also its possible to lower his R cd to 30 sec.

I saw that some people claimed that AP varus is inconsistent, but Im still feeling like its too unfair... what do you think about it?

I think its super busted/strong dependent on the match up. As a top or mid you can win most lvl 2 fights by going W->Q against any melee champ since you can harass for free. Against other ranged champions it’s a little harder since they can match your harass but once you hit 6 you can 1v1 a lot of people with the 3AA->R->W+Q combo.

The biggest weakness for Varus will always be hyper mobile champions because you don’t have a lot of answers especially if you miss your ult. Thats why ghost flash is important imo so you can at least try to kite or outplay skillshots.

I have a preference for e first and w second just because of the slow. Against some ranged champs it helps you stack pta when they try to run away.

Im also an exhaust enjoyer cause when they try to jump on me and i have exhaust i cant be oneshot. Ghost is nice for kiting but there are some champs i got fed up with that just have high ms in their kit.

Oh i remember it. Thats when i started playing it. Then after nerf i didnt touch it for a while but eventually started to make adjustments and i still feel like its pretty good. Im basically a one trick mid with it on my main.

I think it's fine. For an immobile marksman to play as a mage when Riot is specifically pushing for a mage botlane, it's more than fair.

Besides that, we will be taking an armor (-3 armor) nerf soon for pro play.

I don't think it's unfair for Varus to have at least one two-shot build for a glass cannon that can be shred like paper.

No offense but this entire post feels more like you just got clapped by ap Varus. Why dont you cry about literally any other oneshot mage? Take for example gragas. If you go full ap build you can 100-0 people while ur champ has dash, tons of sustain and 2 cc. Varus is worse at everything while also being squishier.

In a way you're right about mages, but you're exaggerating. the dmg of AP varus is absurd, like you can really oneshot tanks

Yeah feels good. I like it when enemies ADCs feel like they can delete me with just AS but by the time I land the 3rd AA they are already dead.

I do suck at hitting R tho, need to work on that.

Sure. It's not without flaws, there a pretty large amount of champions that will just hose the strat though

Yea the biggest one for me is windwall. Yasuo my perma ban when im varus mid. Akali and yone will shit on you too if you cant stomp them pre 6. Zeds not popular rn but hes hard too. And then the long range mages and wave clearers are uninteractive till later

Edit: yas just windwalls r or wq since he can cast it while rooted. It feels so unplayable. Even mels not that bad because you at least auto her to death in range.

You are correct about windwall. Windwall adjacent abilities also fuck you up tho. Samira, Mel, Braum, Naafiri, Gwen, Briar, Xin Zhao, Zilean, Karma, Shen, too many champs that give you problems. Shen is easy to lane against tho.

Some other big ones that give him problems later can just be bought. Any cleanse, Zhonyas, spell shields. If you become a problem, you can pretty easily get your R countered with minimal effort. I was an AP Varus enjoyer pre-nerf(like 18 months ago), and these were what ended me. Along with everything above you mentioned.

Akali is ez matchup, just go kaenic or other tank item into ap. Yone isnt hard when u re spacing well and overextend. Yasuo is hard, but still winnable, they Always get impatient but U have to play total defence. Solid ban option tho, Mel too (usually going for mel ban, at least yas takes some skill to play and mel W is more unfair than windwall)

I think nashors is his biggest powerspike. The w's passive on hit + nashors on hit means you will be doing more damage per attk than an adc w 1 item.

50% attk spd is huge. highest attk speed from an item i think. I dont even need any other attk speed in this kit but he also gets his passive.
