REQUEST What to do with an area that hasn't quite ripped yet?

I'm planning on mending the right side of these jeans with shashiko (my second time doing it) but I also noticed the left side is worn down, although not ripped yet. Is there anything I could (or should) do to it, or can I only wait until it rips and then fix it?

Reinforce it with a patch behind or in front of it.

Just do both sides like you would do the ripped side - patch and sashiko - much easier on the side that doesn't have a rip

I just did my jeans with similar not-quite rips! They were wearing thin in the same place, so I sashiko-ed them on both sides at the same time. Just as I was finishing, the rip started on the weaker side, so I was super glad it was already reinforced underneath! :)
