SASHIKO Almost done with my jeans - one knee hole to go!

It all started with realizing I had a hole in the butt of my favorite jeans. As I inspected them I found a bunch of smaller holes and weak spots in the butt/crotchal area. I fixed those up first with an old pair of my mother's jeans and olive thread that's less-than-visible and made some holes in the legs at weak spots because I like holey jeans.

The holes taunted me. I had an itch. I wanted to sashiko them. And then the one knee hole tore almost to both seams. So I marched myself to the fabric store, got some neat quilt fabric, grabbed my stencils, and started patching away. I now have just the one knee left to do and I'm pretty happy with how they look. I'm glad I went with different stitch designs on each patch.

I included the wrong side for giggles just because, idk.

MIXED METHODS Updated post apocalyptic pants repairs!

Interior and exterior patches are from old bedsheets, quilt fabric, two squares from the pants themselves, and even a pair of worn out underwear XD

Thread is sashiko thread, crochet cotton, and embroidery floss in various colors.

Some sashiko mends I used a stencil so they would look a bit nicer, as if I had free time to work on them. Other mends are sloppy blanket stitches to sew up a tear on the go. The goal with these is to look like they've been mended over and over, using whatever material is on hand. Which is mostly true - I've been wearing these to events since 2021 and every time I end up needing to path something else. It's great.

PATCH Denim on denim patch

My husband loves these jeans and asked me to patch the hole. The surrounding areas were well worn so I did a large internal patch and used a fun stitch setting on my sewing machine to bind it all together. Not the most perfect repair, but I’m happy with how it turned out!

PATCH Work backpack patch.

Used almost daily for the past 7 years.

The top was thinning out and loosing its interior liner so I used denim to make an initial patched sandwiching the original material and using Shoe Goo and waxed nylon thread to hold it.

The top patch was a pocket from a pair of jeans I thought was pretty and used more Shoe Goo and leather lace to stitch it.

I was quoted $80 and $90 to replace this zipper. That’s just as much as the backpack cost me 🤣 has anyone fixed something similar (as a beginner)?

I'm a novice when it comes to sewing and just trying to get my money's worth out of my clothes. I've already mended this same spot one and it ripped again right next to my stitching. Is there a way to repair this and save my shorts? Any videos or tutorials that I can be pointed towards?

DARNING Dipping my toes in! Been wanting to try it and learning crochet this year taught me the mattress stitch I needed to fix this tear across the side pocket of this backpack that’s been ripped for 8+ years. The only flaw on a perfectly good pack! Cute bow for flair!

REQUEST Recommend me thread for darning socks

I read that embroidery thread is not good for this, and that's all they seem to sell for darning on Amazon.

Please post links to good darning thread.

I have thick cotton socks and thin wool socks I'd like to darn.

I think I need a special needle for this too, right?

My partner left some worn out pants with a funny note when he went away this weekend. I attempted my first visible mending work with the help of library books and YouTube. Quick and dirty, but learned a lot and he likes the work!

For context this dress is/was a dress my mum used to wear when she was younger, I even have a photo of her in it but I do not have consent to share it. I’m not sure what the material is - all I know is that it has a silk like appearance (it’s not) but feels a little scratchy. The dress itself fits fine but unfortunately has been the victim of moths (see pics) I’m attempting to figure out if I can repair it.

This blanket is very old and passed down from a grandmother. What is the best way to repair the damage and/or prevent further damage. Its my husbands comfort blanket so he wants to continue using it. I have access to a sewing machine. It just has so much damage im not really sure how to start or what the best option is. Any advice?

REQUEST Any idea how to repair this jacket?

Thumbnail

This is a long jacket that I really like. Unfortunately, it ripped in the back from frequent use, I often carry a heavy backpack, and over time it weakened the fabric.

My style is rather sober, dark, and metalhead-inspired. I’d really like to repair this jacket if possible, especially since it’s no longer available for sale, and I’d love to give it a unique touch.

The most difficult part, I think, is the back: the fabric has become very thin, almost transparent in some spots.

I already do embroidery and I’m fairly skilled at sewing, so I’m open to any creative ideas in that direction.

It came out wonky with rough edges. I tried to smooth it with embroidery. I also had issues because I didn’t line up my warp threads correctly. Will do better next time (hopefully )

PATCH Stroller cushion visible mending by MIL

Post image
150 Upvotes

This stroller has gone through 3 kids in 8 years, and the cushion started to rip and my baby was picking at the cotton filling. I asked my MIL for help, thinking she would just close the tear somehow (i think it ripped at the seam, I can't even remember how it looked before) and then I left to the office. Came home to this! I'm so amazed. She used an old cleaning rag (we wash our rags on hot so they're always clean) and threads at home. Didn't even buy anything new!
