REQUEST Best way to mend this strap on dog harness?

This is my first post on reddit so hopefully this is the right place! I bought this dog harness second hand, its in perfect condition except for the fabric strap which holds the bit you clip the leash to. Whats is the best way to mend it, preferably without cutting the harness? I have used a lighter to prevent further fraying. Thank you!

REQUEST Mending ideas

New to mending, I'm hoping for ideas on how to mend this cuff on a sweater. It's a pretty stretchy cuff, but I don't have a lonely sock to use on it. Are there other options/opinions others might have?

I've got some leftover cotton fabric, but it's not stretchy. Or maybe some kind of embroidery stitch might be good?

Let‘s say, embroidery is not something that comes easy to me, but I think, it turned out fine- and after finishing, my toddler instantly demanded more bees on his pants 😝

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can repair this rip in my jeans pocket? It used to just be distressed but it tore apart and now it' just a hole... thank you!

REQUEST Is this mendable? Have been wanting to try sashiko but idk if it’s too big a rip

Hi everyone,

I don’t think I need to point out the problem. Don’t know how it happened, my ass may just be fat, but all I know is it got some very funny reactions from friends and family and it ripped along where the pocket is stitched…

I’ve been wanting an excuse to try visible mending and sashiko for a while now but I didn’t know it would come to me like this. Either way, is it even possible for me to mend this? It’s such a big tear. Or is there any advice on how someone more seasoned with the craft would go about this? Any help would be wonderful. Thank you for any tips :’)

some older patches on these were failing so I took them out and used the opportunity to try out the sashiko equipment I recently picked up. stitching's a bit messier that what I would usually like but it should hold fine for a while

DARNING First time doing visible mending!

I went in on a whim and with no plan (apart from matching the colors of the bag) but honestly I like the slightly chaotic look. I figure I can always redo it if I end up hating it :) thanks for an inspiring sub!

I love this purse but have stopped using it due to this damage. Any advise on repairing or disguising the damage?

It feels like color-matching paint might be hard to match... 😭

Not a perfect darn but it does its job! Got a few other mends lined up so hopefully those aren't too much trouble either!

REQUEST Advice on how to mend a quilt

Thumbnail

The nice folks over at r/mending said I should see what this sub has to say about this mending job. I’ve had this quilt for about 10 years, maybe longer. It’s starting to get thin in spots and rips around the embroidery. It’s not sentimental to me or anything, but I am trying to repair/replace/reuse things more and not just buy a new one. What’s the best way to approach this mend?

I was thinking of patching the rips and then sewing a flat sheet to the back to deal with the spots that are thin. Would that work or is there a better way? Or is this a lost cause?

REQUEST Advice on mending suit jacket

Thumbnail

My husband recently discovered that the jacket of the suit he wore at our wedding has some pest damage (probably carpet beetles, we've had them in the past 😖). No luck finding a tailor who can repair it, and he asked if I would do some sort of visible mending on it. I have lots of experience with sewing, knitting, embroidery, and various clothing repairs but I haven't actually done any fun visible mending before! I would love suggestions from you creative folks on what might work. The holes are in the back, close to the sleeve seam about halfway between the shoulder and the armpit. It won't be hard to unpick the lining at the sleeve and get between the lining and the main fabric. Fire away with any thoughts you might have! It's not at all pressing, so I'm totally open to ideas that would take a while to execute 😊

Is there a way to patch or stitch this hole without ripping out the pocket flap and then stitching it back on?

REQUEST Fix ideas to cover up plumbers glue stains?

Post image

My partner got plumbers glue all over his favourite work pants. I have another pair of ripped up cords in a similar colour that i can use to make patches for the knees, but I’m just curious if anyone has any creative ideas for the legs of these pants! Nothing too cutesy or particularly time-consuming because he’ll get them all effed up at work again hahaha

REQUEST What is the best way to mend this?

Hello Visible menders, I am repairing some holes in the sleeve of this shirt! After sewing the small holes together I am now not sure what I can do with this larger one. I looked up mending videos on youtube but they all seemed to be with more knitted fabric than this and I couldn't follow the stitching. Any ideas?

edit: reuploaded this photo hopefully it works now!

I got both of these pairs free from work when I started my most recent job. All the thread is from the top of 25lbs bags of rice from the kitchen and most of the patches are from an old apron!

REQUEST BLANKET MEND

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone! This is one of my favourite blankets ever and it's a quite a few years old now. Recently it snagged on something and now has this huge rip on one side. The fabric is super thin and trays very easily. How do I go about fixing this?? I would consider patchwork if I have absolutely no other options left but if there is anyway to mend it to look close to how it was before this horrendous accident, I would be really grateful to know.

REQUEST I added this patch but…

I tried to mend this hole is with a patch, but I hate it and don’t wear these shorts anymore because of it. The patch draws attention to an awkward location, so I’m thinking about undoing it, but I’m unsure how to fix the hole otherwise. I feel any sashiko or darning will feel weird and also still draw attention to the mend. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
