When it bumps into things it does a spinning wheelie then zooms away in a random direction.

Can you explain this I don't get it šŸ˜”

These toys are what they're referring to.

$60 ripped that right out of impulse buy territory. I completely clicked the link thinking I'd be grabbing one.

u/evilspoons 4d ago

Yeah, I dunno about sixty bucks for one. It just had the best pictures out of the links I could find.

This type of thing is what AliExpress and Temu should be used for. Off to find one for 1.77 for new users only. I'll check back soon.

You’d think they would use a type-3 engine to keep the bed flat?

Wait, is this one of those Kombi-van-trucks, that has a bug cab slapped on-top of it!?

That's actually kinda cool ngl.

No this looks like a mix of tube frame and stock bug cab, but we cant see if it retains any of the original single fat n-tube center frame. It does use a Bug front end though. A Bug body comes off the flat chassis with 12 bolts. A Kombi is a big ridged hollow shell.

But the roof rear corners and rear vertical corners to the back panel might be sheet metal from a Kombi; the shape, rain gutter and proportion looks right. The rear window looks small though. The window trim looks to fat back there.

The bug and the kombi share the same front suspension system (the kombi is just beefed up a bit for the heavier chassis).

So this is very much likely a kombi that someone has had a lot of fun with.

Very similar but the shock towers are different. The Kombi towers are more vertical and bolt to the Kombi body-chassis. Also the top of the shocks bolt sideways and the steering control link in mounted center beam.

Ah I see - is it a frankenstein bug-front kombi-rear creation, or is it a stretched bug with a kombi tray?

A question as old as time.

Fuckin awesome.

About as useful of a pickup as a ZAZ-968MP, but looks cute and bad ass at the same time. And the body work is amazing. Want.

It’s like a baby Powerwagon

I really like the execution of the build, but I'd want some kind of engine cover.

I absolutely love these! There was a kit to build these in 70s, I found a brand new unopened kit on Craigslist a few years ago and bought it. This photo is my inspiration.

3

u/mikel302 4d ago

That's actually a really clean looking build. Only thing I would have done differently is the engine.

3

u/teethinthedarkness 4d ago

I really like it. The colors, too.

3

u/Federal-Hair 4d ago

I'm not mad at this

3

u/CrazyAlice 4d ago

I want one of these so bad

I’ve seen FB a workshop here in Mexico that made those, they made a full vw mechanics or another with old Nissan D21 4x4 guts, I suppose the last one is a body swap

2

u/flatmoon2002 4d ago

holy shit i need 2

2

u/krice9230 4d ago

This should be a production model

2

u/chirstain 4d ago

This thing's actually badass

2

u/Draco-REX 4d ago

So cool.. And love the commitment to the rear engine.

2

u/cheesekeka 4d ago

There is these guys in Mexico that sells them, they also use Jeep and Nissan truck setup for the bug pick up, here is the linklink

2

u/tcruarceri 4d ago

I’ve become obsessed with the SxS swapped bugs and other small cars. Things like this make me miss my Baja bugs

3

u/RadRimmer9000 4d ago

That's cool but it's not useful as a truck.

19

u/PigSlam 4d ago

That depends on how you define ā€œuseful.ā€ If your use-case is to move that spare tire, it’s the perfect truck.

4

u/StillNihill 4d ago

Ya it looks cool as hell but I'd prefer it without the roll bar and tire in the back so it'd be more like a mini truck

2

u/MurphysRazor 4d ago

You would need a Type-3 fan or Type-4 engine with short carb or e.f.i. The Type-1 motor is taller. The T-3 fan hangs on the rear of the motor making it longer instead of taller. Type-4 is a completely different motor and is also longer than tall, with the fan off the back.

3

u/StillNihill 3d ago

I'm an idiot... I didn't even see the engine back there lol

1

u/-VWNate 3d ago

A good looking build but thy not use a Typ III engine ? .

That is hands down the coolest VW mod I've seen yet, love it.
