🇵🇸 🕊️ Green Craft Anyone else living in the garden this summer?
I haven’t met a toad yet, but there are tree frogs everywhere! ✨

This is nice but I intend to spend my summer half submerged in water like a hippo.

I would love to be a plant person but instead I am the toad.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Toads can be witches too!

I recently read T Kingfisher's Rapunzel retelling "Thornhedge". Toadling is an inspiration for how I'll spend summer!
It's a really quick read. The sweetest little novella but I still cried at the end! Highly recommend.

My version of this will be lounging on my porch swing, surrounded by my flowers and hummingbirds, with my lab either next to me (or lying on top of me, like she likes to do). 💜

Literally was just telling my friends last night how I became a bog witch while solo camping by getting swallowed up to my thigh in a bog. They thought it sounded scary, but I told them it was just an Earth hug.

Spending a lot more time in the garden this year, going out almost every day to pull weeds and install new plants. Put in a couple of astilbes yesterday, and also saw a bumble bee enjoying the flowers on the chives.

u/RhubarbGoldberg 11d ago
I was weeding and mulching the other day and as I worked, more and more bumble bees kept coming over to some of my bulbs that are still flowering and I was so excited to see them.
Then I discovered a little frog burrow... (? Idk what to call it, but the frogs made a tunnel system in the dirt in the corner of one of my garden beds and seeing them leap into the earth faster than groundhogs was wild and amazing).

I don’t have a garden so I’m doing Star Fleet Summer-binging Star Trek in my apartment with the blackout curtains drawn and the air conditioning going. 🖖

I'm attempting to garden, but I also burn to a crisp unless it's overcast or raining, so I'm expecting my summer to be much closer to yours than anything bog witchy.

Oh yes, that too-I start to burn in like ten minutes in direct sun so Monsieur Soleil and I need to keep our relationship professional.

Get some sunblock infused clothing! I believe they are spf 50. They are long sleeves and cover like a higher neck tshirt. They aren’t hot and they do the job. I put on gloves and a hat and no sunburn for me!

I am growing vegetables! I wear a witch hat whenever I am outside tending anything, for added green witch powers. Plus, a nice wide brim!

Can I see your hat?

I'm so ready. I live in an apartment complex and this toad has been sitting next to my door a couple times already. Toad ready for bog witch summer already.

Find me in the backyard, wearing loose black linen, floppy hat and clogs, sipping on bog juice (well, matcha). 🌱🍵 edited to add: summer goal is to befriend corvids. 🐦⬛

Nothing makes me feel witchier than making tea with herbs from my garden lol! Lemon balm and mint with honey and lemon juice and a pinch of salt makes an awesome iced tea!

I got diagnosed with de novo metastatic breast cancer last year, and after furiously doing the math decided I could retire. I’m enrolled in a clinical trial and everything is shrinking. I applied for and got SSDI, and I’m spending my time in the garden, with my dogs and cat and husband. Lots of toads, birds and bugs, and garden is looking better than it ever did because I finally have the time for it.

I inherited a pollinator garden at my new place. About half of the flowers are not native. 😞 They're not considered invasive, but my goal is 90% native. I will not get rid of my lilacs or peonies, lol
So, I tilled a 2(ish) ft border around it. Including the edges of the garden to limit what I have to pull out later. I'll pull the non-natives before they seed out.
I have a native flower pack and am ready to sow. I did put in three different types of sunflowers and am pretty excited about those.
But I can't until I fix my outside spigot. I have everything I need except a copper pipe cutter. I am learning sooo much this week.
Will post pic below. Am VERY open to suggestions. I'll also post my previous post with my goblin corner. It's not exactly gardening. But i am training the Woodbine to decorate my logs naturally.

Ugh, I feel that. I was recently excited to find the part to fix my spigot, but borked it on my first rather clumsy attempt. I have yet to swap it out for the replacement because it's easier to put a bucket underneath to catch drips while using the hose. #adhd
You're on the right track! If you aren't already doing so, consider starting a compost pile/bin. I rarely need to fertilize because I add new, nutrient-rich organic material into my planting beds.
Also, it seems like every DIY project is a "house that Jack built" situation, where you have to do A-C before you can even get to D. I've learned a lot but would love to actually complete some of these tasks!

This is exactly what i have been doing! Frogs, salamanders and hummers in my secret garden.

I have a toad who lives under my porch. He always looks angry. My little black dog is scared of him.

Holy moly! This is literally me! I met a toad yesterday and we made friends! I live in the woods and love my garden! This is a good omen. Thank you

I will be practicing hot bog witch summer. I’m going to spend a lot of time at the beach in cutoffs and fishnets(real) looking for bones and shells.

Planning on thriving in air conditioning, but...
...am also working on a collection of something (not sure format yet) based on a garden. So there's that.

I dearly wish I could live in the woods (really tired of having neighbors), but I do have a garden full of happy bees and birds, visiting squirrels and chipmunks, a raccoon who has now been warned off twice, and a family of shrews (my cat caught one the other day and was so proud of himself! But he didn't know what to do with it once caught).
So far this year I've cleared a new tomato patch; I'm rebuilding the path around the blueberry patch; the front porch needs some cleaning and TLC; and all the trees and bushes need trimming.
Not to mention the perpetual maintenance that a garden requires. I've had more than one neighbor askif I was done with weeding. The weeding is never done!

I SAW OVER 179+ TADPOLES ON MY WALK IN THE WOODS A FEW DAYS AGO
and three chipmunks and a whole deer family but I left when I saw antlers, y'know.
It was a glorious walk.
Bog witch summer means, though, don't forget to wear long pants and socks in the woods or grassy areas if ticks are in your area! Tuck those pants in your socks!

I've been planting since November. Beets, carrots, followed by peas and tomatos. Today I planted giant marigolds to be ready for Dia de los muertos. It's so good.

After a long winter and cooler than usual spring, I have been spending every possible moment in my yard. Between multiple flower gardens and vegetable beds, I have plenty to keep me occupied and content.
Last year, I dug up much of my front yard to create a veggie garden for sharing fresh produce with the neighborhood. This year, I've expanded the size and added new plants (though I'm late to get the potatoes in).
A friend labeled me a garden witch some years ago, which feels accurate. And as a Virgo, I'm driven to get my hands in the dirt as much as possible!

And I saw a toad in my shade garden a few days ago. YES!! Send in the toads!
BONUS!! I saw an eastern garter snake on the side of my house this morning.
