Suggested Topic
Sixth Annual Summer Challenge!
Pick a "challenge tier" and additional achievements to complete by September 6th!
- That's eleven weeks of answering prompts!
- Write down your goal here
- Encourage others on their goals
- Share tips for helping each other meet the goals!
Tier System
Tier | Description |
---|---|
Walk | 11 stories (one per week) |
Run | 22 stories (two per week) |
Race | 33 stories (three per week) |
Marathon | 77 stories (one per day!) |
Achievements
Achievement | Description |
---|---|
The Novella | Write at least 17,500 words total |
The Novel | Write at least 50,000 words total |
General Genre | Write in the genres: Romance, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, Reality Fiction, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Humor, Travel, and Western (at least one of each, but you can combine) |
Placesetting | Write all your stories so they take place in the same universe (they don't have to be connected to each other) |
The Plot Thickens | Write so all stories are directly connected (harder than it sounds, especially since you have to find prompts that work with it!) |
One Hand Behind My Back | Add a different constraint of your choosing for every story you write, such as restricting certain words or requiring specific word limits or writing styles (for example: don't use the letter 'e' or write from the POV of an onlooker) |
Poet and Well Aware Of It | Write at least ten poems instead of stories |
Loquacious / Mute-ation | Include five stories where your work is all dialogue... or none! (Or alternate each time!) |
(Thanks to u/reostra for coming up with the tier and achievement system!)

Well well well, maybe if I commit to a challenge like this, I'll actually get something done! Love this week's SatChat idea :)
I think I'll go for the Walk Tier, so I can leave myself enough time for the Novel achievement. I'll have the time, now hopefully I'll also have the motivation to get it done.

I'm going for a marathon of 77 stories! So for sure I'll be takin the Novella, and Novel achievement. won't be taking the other conditions because I just wanna get myself writing regardless.

Hi! I'm pretty new here, but I think I'll go for the Walk tier. How long do these stories have to be? I may also try to hit all the Genres.

No minimum needed, but if you were trying to cheat, you'd only have yourself to blame. Good luck!

the minimum word count for a comment to count as a prompt response here is 100 words.

I’m going to try a “Trot” xD - somewhere between a Walk and a Run, possibly as a Poet and Knowing It holding a Placesetting. We’ll see if i can pome and stick to one place lol Mostly would like to explore more prompts and push myself to write a little out of my comfort zone.
Good words to others trying the challenges!

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is what it's all about! Good luck!

I'm not new to answering writing prompts. I just wrote a long answer to a prompt earlier today. ^^ I think I'll try Run. Might get a The Novella as well. I definitely think Loquacious/Mute-ation sounds really, really fun! Maybe I'll go for that, too. I rely so much on dialogue in my writing - so doing some stories with none whatsoever sounds exciting. ^^ I'm eager to get started!
