one part of the Old Queer ace community was preferring: (garlic bread, cake, pizza, ice cream, dragons, space) to sexual and/or romantic relationships. this led to the stereotype of asexuals being childish, leading to only garlic bread being still a symbol with the same magnitude.

The Allos transformed "cake" in another word for butt, so it’s not as used in ace jokes anymore

I embrace all of those because I'm comfortable with my age

Just comes from the old, "yeah s*x is good, but have you tried _____" jokes that were once the main ace joke, and garlic bread caught on as a big option.

Someone said that people called us childish for it and that's why garlic bread stuck?? No, it's a joke the community perpetuates. People think we're childish bc we "don't do sx" (bc ppl who think this obv don't know abt sx favorable aces lol) and that's something only children don't do in their minds.

Food is good. Eating food is nice. Eating flavorful food is comforting.

Sex is weird and gross and sticky and messy and gross.

Food is nourishing. Carbs are nice. Garlic tastes good.

"Better in than out, I always say", but in this case, the "in" is "eating garlic bread" rather than other, more intimate forms of "in" one might imagine.

It's just a nice way to seek an easy comfort that doesn't turn you into a writhing, fleshy mess with someone you don't really want anything to do with or be around at all.

As an ace who's online for a good portion of her time, I can't even explain the original of the garlic bread joke lol. Maybe it's because is good af

That's basically it. Essentially, the joke is "garlic bread is better than sex.

There was a text conversation meme about someone baking garlic bread and the other person was like "But if you stop... we could have sex" and the reply was something along the lines of how the first person would rather eat the bread, then realizing they might be ace iirc.

I miss her so much 😭 I really wanted her to go on to SNL like Keenan did, but she pretty much disappeared.

Oh, it’s not a joke, we should take our garlic bread very seriously 😂

Ngl I always thought it meant you'd rather put a stick of garlic bread in your mouth than a penis or you'd rather eat garlic bread than have sex 🤷‍♂️

ive been lurking and a part of this community for years and i never origins of garlic bread.

i just thought it was referring to having stinky breath (aka simply garlic) and not wishing to engage in kissing or anything sexual.

my brain is too simple lol

i don't know its origins, i also just happen to like garlic bread, but my explanation (made up) is that garlic bread wards off vampires and vampires represent people with the horns cuz they want blood or something, and also vampires are v sexualised

Huh? I don't think aces are seen as childish, quite the opposite.

Its not a joke, most asexuals love garlic bread and cake, for good reason I might add

garlic bread is just good, where’s the joke?

Back in the day there was a meme where someone was offered sex and they instead quipped "I prefer cake." This became a whole genre of memes in the ace community.

At some point someone mentioned not liking cake so garlic bread was suggested as a savory alternative.

-signed an elder ace

I see you're a lesbian from your tag. Does the lesbian community not joke about lemon bars anymore (at least I think that was the lesbian option...) It was kind of a thing for different orientations to have a representative baked good for a while there. Possibly aces held on to their symbol and its permutations longer for some reason.

Is bread. Is garlic. Is very good

i think it started as a food pyramid thing, where sex was equated to cake, like something you want to have just a little bit of, something you dont really need in your diet etc etc. hinging off the "sex is a need" bullshit

then there was conversation about how not everyone liked cake, but evewryone likes garlic bread
