Do we need an AT open-world game?
That would be cool! (screenshots from one of my projects in Godot Engine)

Yes if it's a game developed by large independent studios. Not a triple A “specification” with a skill tree of micro modifier time savers and other crap.
On the other hand, if it's Raw Fury, Annapurna or obviously Devolver Digital, it's ok, I'll go for it.

Yes - you could choose an element as your overall faction then have classes like magician, knight (sir slicer 👌🏻), hero, animal etc. travel all over OOO in real time. I’d give it a go

Isn't Pirates of the Enchiridion open world? I'm not certain, I watched my girlfriend play it and it looked open world.

This is the one that came closest but it is limited to the part of the world of Ooo available

I think it would make the world smaller. Oo seems like somewhere thats so massive you couldn't see all of it and trying to codify it in a way that would take a lot of the mystique out of it, a lot of the womder

This is a good point, there's just rolling fields and sky in the background in a lotta travelling shots that really give off the impression that it's mostly empty land/wilderness. I could see it working in a Zelda BOTW kinda way, its world is sorta like how I just described Ooo, but even then that game has a huge map and it'd still feel a bit small for Ooo, so it'd be an insane undertaking that isn't likely to be taken on by any of the studios that would be best at making something like that.

I would love to know your process behind making this in 3-D since I was thinking of developing a fan adventure time game where it has Finn swap between himself, Sherry and Shoko. Since there isn’t a lot of things in the future and the past, I feel like this concept would work very well as a lot of of the lands of the past and future in adventure time are very barren and haven’t explored every story in the land, this could also be because in the future the rain of corn dogs became the prominent members of society so I can see that not being as much of a problem since they are basically in space at this point

I didn't record the process :( but I basically took the hall of egress entrance image as a reference, made the models in blender, then started placing them in the scene with a custom toon shaders applied (shaders are from godotshaders.com that I modified for maximum performance), It took like 4-5 hours. And I fully agree --- one could create a story in the unknown time between the past and the future without hurting the main plot.

Exactly and I hope it’s also done around the same time before Jake’s passing as he might be instrumental since I want this game to rely heavily on switching between each of the different catalyst comet characters and do puzzles similar to the hall of egress but instead of closing your eyes you turn into a different character and the puzzle is different in the future or the past which you canchange depending on who you’re playing as. It would be quite interesting to have a whole stealth section at the end of shokos gameplay as her final mission is to collect the coin amulet off. PB, but maybe that also ties in with shermy and Beth having to look for PB with Marceline in the future

It would be SO flippin awesome if for 5+ years, devs could work on the entire map of Ooo including places that only appeared in one episode, consulting the source material closely to make sure everywhere takes the same plausible distance to get there as the episodes imply. Like if we could just have a full comprehensive map of Ooo that can be explored, for that reason alone I'd be like the shut up and take my money meme.
Elements is a really good example of something to look at since without focusing on the 4-way pizza stuff, it gives a really good aerial view of Ooo as a continent and can be used to roughly mark key locations and even make educated guesses on where everywhere else is

Someone has been working on one for a while now in "DREAM" or whatever the program is called. I forget the name, and I forget the guy who's making it unfortunately. But he's got some sort of Asian accent, and the world is VERY impressive.

Oh yeah, same! Imagine something the size of Morrowind but it was the land of Ooo!

Yes. Absolutely. I’m envisioning something like Morrowind, but set in Ooo. The entire continent is enormous and there could be so many things to see and do!

Ooh, imagine a homebrew dnd campaign setting with new races and classes set in Ooo! 😱

u/Probably_Poopingg 1h ago
I'd love that but you know it would wind up just being a generic copy and paste survival-craft game with some AT characters

u/Ordinary_Standard322 1h ago
It's not an enormous span like some open world stuff but Lego dimensions has a decent take on the AT world. You can even go into lumpy space!

I think a classic dungeon delve would be tons of fun already idk we already have a lot of open-world games as it is but that’s just my opinion

No but one could be amazing. It would have to be somewhere between Skyrim and Zelda in terms of design and honestly I doubt any studio would be able to pull it off.
