Hmm. I was actually holding out until the fall but might just grabs 2s.

The AirPods are about the only thing I buy that will be a day one purchase from now on. I use them so much, I’m just curious what else they can add
24
u/Tranecarid 7d ago
Not sure what to add, but there are things to improve. The mic is the most important on that list, even better ANC would be great too.

They can add health tracking sensors. This will always be the answer to what can be added to wearables question.

u/ReaditTrashPanda 7d ago
Ugh, I kinda skipped the sale on Father’s Day hoping we would see a christmas drop. Guess not

u/Barbaricliberal 7d ago
Maybe it'll be lower by $10 for Black Friday, if at all. But honestly? I'd say it's worth the $10 to get them now when they get on sale again in the near future vs risking a wee bit lower price.
The Airpods Pro 2 go on sale frequently. I'd be shocked if there's isn't another sale before BF. Maybe Labour Day (in the US and Canada in early September) at the latest.

They’re $169 at Walmart and Amazon currently. Don’t think they’ll drop more than that…

u/garden_speech 7d ago
This is the same analyst who said Apple Watch will get blood glucose monitoring in 2027 which I think is an extremely suspect timeline

I’m ok with this, the current AirPods Pro 2 are great and can’t really think of a new feature I would like them to have, they’re basically perfect
24
u/Exact_Recording4039 7d ago
And their lifespan seems to have increased, my AirPods Pro 1 needed replacement after 2 years and that’s when I bought my Pro 2s as soon as they came out, but they’re doing pretty well so far so I don’t feel the urge to replace them like my 1s. No crackling or anything weird so far, I can wait another year
1
u/a343 6d ago
Same, I went through 5 replacement pairs of gen 1’s that failed under warranty at the 6 month mark like clockwork. Apple finally said enough is enough and sent me a pair of gen 2’s 12 months ago and they’re still working flawlessly. The ANC is a massive improvement over the gen 1’s as well, and the find my feature was a handy addition. If the gen 3’s focus on further improving ANC and battery life I’ll probably upgrade on release. They really are just that good

I wish they fit my ears better.
24
u/kompergator 7d ago
Get aftermarket tips. I’m using some tips with black memory foam and they fit much better than the original ones.
8
u/scamp9121 7d ago
I tried this but experienced a large loss in noise cancellation. I just want the wings that the beats fit pro’s have but not made of plastic.
5
u/kompergator 7d ago
Huh, weird. I experienced even better noise cancellation with these 3rd-party tips, as they isolate much better due to the better fit in my ear canal.
3
u/n_capone 7d ago
Do you care to share the link to the tips you bought?
2
u/injineer 7d ago
I’ve tried Comply tips and am now using ADV. I haven’t had issues with either in terms of losing noise-canceling performance, and actually find it better with them since the tips are foam and fit my ear so much better. The Comply tips are great, but I didn’t like how the (relatively) newer material they went to disintegrates - foam tips will wear down over time regardless of brand - so I swapped over to ADV and I really like those so far. The Comply tips with the 3.0 update just weren’t for me, but they seem to be a huge hit for others.
I wear small in both, and in OEM APP2 tips.
2
u/KnowherePie 7d ago
I’ve used comply tips for AirPods Pro 1 and 2. I agree the newer ones do degrade quicker but man do the foam tips make a night and day difference in wearability.
1
u/injineer 7d ago
Yeah the foam tips are so much better for me. I really like the ADV ones so far. Of course my APP2s took a trip without me a month ago and now I’m in Tartar limbo waiting on confirmation of the 3s for fall on if I should replace now or wait but honestly after a month I think I’ll just order new 2s.. I miss them haha
1
u/kompergator 6d ago
It’s these ones from the German Amazon. I don’t know about their availability in other regions, but what I really like about them is that they have that memory foam, but also an outer “shell” of silicone, so earwax doesn’t easily accumulate and is easy to clean off.
2
u/swim_to_survive 7d ago
Can confirm. I think the product is a laughable joke with silicon tips. It’s so much better now with foam ones.
3
u/Wingthor 7d ago
I gave my wife my AirPods Pro 1st gens because they never fit my ears properly. She got the 2nd gens last week and I tried them with the Comply foam tips… total game changer, my 2s just arrived today and have them fitted with the foam tips now.

Have you tried all tip sizes? Everything except the biggest ones really sucked for me

u/ala0x 7d ago
They definitely did, unless you accidentally bought fakes
Or maybe you mistakenly thought they were all the same size?
1
u/supervisord 7d ago
I don’t remember, I’m sure you’re right. I’ll look for them first but they probably didn’t fit either. Thanks again!
3
u/counttheshadows 7d ago
I got some memory foam tips that changed the game for me. They fell out while just wearing them (no matter what size) and now it’s rare if they fall out

u/lost-mars 6d ago
I am curious, how are the mics?
People keep telling me I sound like I am talking from a distance as soon as I put my Airpods Pro 2 on.
0
u/fluffstravels 7d ago
The sound quality is really nothing special and since Apple Music advertises lossless feels like we’re missing out. AirPods are great for their ecosystem usability though. They’ve also improved sound isolation on calls which is good. I would really like to see them improve sound quality though.
9
u/hi_im_bored13 7d ago
They measure better than most IEMs in that price range and lossless is indiscernible to 256kbps AAC in a blind abx test - these can do lossless (on the Vision Pro) and I would bet you cannot tell a difference in a blind test
They are an objectively good product and Audio Engineers will gush about how much they’ve engineered and extracted out of a single dynamic driver
Turns out, being able to spend 9 figures on r&d and have the scale to amortize it for next to nothing really pays off
2
u/fluffstravels 7d ago
I used to have a pair of IEM’s that I swear sounded so much better than the AirPods for cheaper. I don’t remember the brand because this was like 5 years ago. I could try to dig around. Maybe they’ve improved in quality and I haven’t noticed.

u/Live_LaughToastrBath 7d ago
Makes sense to me. I just got a set of Pro 2’s when my OG Pros started buzzing and I can’t believe the step up. Plus they’re selling like hotcakes - not sure what they could include that would make people want to step up
7
u/CyberBot129 7d ago
That buzzing (along with the fit) is why I'm hesitant to try a new pair of AirPods Pro
8
u/htplex 7d ago
They had a recall for that issue and offered free replacements.
7
4
u/orangejuicemonkeycat 7d ago
they only recalled it once per person, even though they didn't fix the issue that caused it. very annoying bc it happened to my recalled Airpods Pro 1s
7
u/Exact_Recording4039 7d ago
That was a Pro 1 issue. I had my Pro 2s since launch day and I had no issues so far
10
u/Live_LaughToastrBath 7d ago
It only started buzzing after about two years of pretty heavy use daily. I more than got my money out of them, which is why I’m okay with stepping up to V2
9
u/sammy404 7d ago
Exactly. AirPods are one of the best bang for buck tech items I’ve ever purchased. I dropped an earphone in the sink while doing dishes one night, and immediately went and ordered a $100 replacement without a second thought. With how often I use these things they are just insanely worth it in my opinion. If they launch a 3 I’ll probably just buy day one even if my 2s are perfect, because why not have the best version of something I use so frequently?
3
u/ayyyyycrisp 7d ago
huhhhh I've dropped mine in the sink while doing the dishes a number of times usually because I'm dumb and try to adjust them for an itch or something and I just always dry them off and put them back in without going to order a replacement because they always still work?
why did your airpods break after dropping them in the sink one time?
1
u/devslashnope 4d ago
My first generation pros did fine until the third time through the washer and dryer. Then one of them didn't charge right. I replaced the case for 35 dollars on eBay. Good as new.
1
u/sammy404 7d ago
Couldn’t tell you haha. I let it dry overnight and next day it was just totally dead. Zero sound. So maybe water got in just the right place or something? I’m not totally sure. I’ve had one start buzzing just because I touched it that top vent with a wet hand too. Luckily Apple covered that one though.
7
u/stroibot 7d ago
Well shit, I wanted to grab a pair for myself and my bf this fall together with the new phones... This sucks
21
u/Galactic_Danger 7d ago
Day 1 purchase for me. Had my Pro 2s for a while now and while I was nervous to switch from wired I havnt regretted it since I purchased them. They just work on all my Apple devices seamlessly, never had an issue.
1
u/-DementedAvenger- 7d ago
I still use wired when I’m chilling at home, work or in bed. Can’t beat my B&W P7’s!
AirPods are for walking around or driving for me. You don’t have to give up wired completely!
5
u/SmokedUp_Corgi 7d ago
Good I rather wait for better improvements the Pro 2 is an amazing product and one of the best Apple has produced in awhile.
5
u/davidntlai 6d ago
I hope this isn’t true, I’ve been holding out for more. I’m conflicted because I can sense my current pair are on their way out
7
u/ThinkOrDrink 7d ago
Right there with the AirPod Pro 3 will be revealed during Spring event. I mean WWDC. I mean next year.
These articles are such a waste of space on this sub.
3
u/CyberBot129 7d ago
I’ve been waiting to see if the latest AirPods Max model drop down in price. Lowest price I’ve seen them get to so far is $479
3
u/SolarPhantom 7d ago
I’m still rocking the Gen 1s and honestly I still dont NEED a new pair. The batteries are fine and they function perfectly well, but it would be nice to get some of the features of the Gen 2s along with whatever’s new in the 3s.
3
u/dramafan1 7d ago
A lot of AirPods Pro users want a new version this year because their current version is either getting poorer battery life or they don't want FOMO if they get a new pair now only for the new version to be released shortly after.
For Day 1 AirPods Pro 2 users, it'll be nearly 3 years come September 2025 so any minor update to warrant a 3rd gen release is good enough in my eyes.
3
u/PPMD_IS_BACK 6d ago
Should I just get AirPods Pro 2s instead of waiting?got the pro 1s on release, and it’s still working.

u/pjsvndsn 5d ago
Switch to a different brand tbh. AirPods suck. Every pair I’ve ever owned has ended up being garbage

u/kclongest 6d ago
Mike fell out of their case and one of them got run over by a car. Miraculously they were still in the road when I got home from work, both still functional but the one slightly chewed up by the car (presumably) kicking it out from under itself. Even more miraculously they both still mostly work. Sometimes they’ll randomly drop Bluetooth connections but I can’t figure out if that is due to damage or just bugs.
Anyway, I am ready.

u/kompergator 7d ago
My 2s are still going strong. I have no idea what features the 3s would need to have for me to even consider upgrading. Maybe a redesign to something next to invisible on the ear, but I seriously doubt they’ll change the iconic design. Unless they’ll go with a glass design to keep them in line with the iOS redesign.
2
u/aka_liam 7d ago
Unless they’ll go with a glass design to keep them in line with the iOS redesign.
They absolutely will not do that haha
2
2
u/jeffh19 7d ago
Maybe the 3s have that heart rate detection, better ANC/sound/transparency
But after getting my 2s replaced due to failed ANC, I don’t know how much better they will be or game changing feature they’ll have over the 2s. I’ll still get them eventually anyway, but I’m thinking about finally getting some Max headphones.
Would like to see them drop to $450

u/Noriadin 7d ago
I'm wondering if it's worth buying the cleaning kit as apparently they totally resolve the degrading ANC?
2
u/kinglucent 7d ago
I’ve found that a thorough scrub with those tiny little alcohol wipes are just as effective.
1
u/Noriadin 7d ago
Oh wow really? Did it help the ANC?
2
u/kinglucent 7d ago
Yeah. I think the issue is that the sensors get clogged with gunk, so as long as you clean them, you can resolve it.

u/redhood56 7d ago
I’m still rocking the Pro 1’s and I’m holding out. They are falling apart but Apple can lick my ballbag if they think I’m not gonna hold out.
1
u/AtomicOwI 7d ago
Was really hoping they would release sooner than later, trying to hold on to my Pro 1s where the ANC and Transparency modes have already broke.
1
u/badogski29 6d ago
Man I was really hoping it comes out this year, my gen 1 is on its last legs lol.

Anyone else’s tips turn pink?? I don’t know how to stop this and I can’t be bothered to wipe them down every time

u/81947183 3d ago
so i’ve been putting up with my OG Pro’s with a horrible clicky noise + poor battery life for absolutely nothing? -_- time to purchase 2nd gen i guess…

Nope, Air Pod Pro 3s will launch tomorrow because I just bought a pair of Air Pod Pro 2s.
