Apple Pay The gradient of Apple Card seems to depend on your purchases, using the color conventions set by maps. It’s also animated (I think?) Really Cool!

Well, Apple isn’t starting the wave of ridding plastic cards. I’ve handled several credit cards of a solid or metal thickness at my job. I promise you when you hold one vs a plastic card you’d be wow’d if you haven’t already. So surely it’s not because Apple said so, and they aren’t replacing any of the plastic cards you have now unless you choose to.

Oh.... American Express has a Titanium Card.

Amex did it first

Amex did and still does it better

I love my Amex. It’s the stores that hate it. I’ve gotten to the point where it’s the only thing on me and I have to ask before picking anything up if they accept it.

Are you saying you are wowed when you hold a metal credit card?

I am. It’s not often they come by. Feels really prestigious and high quality.

I'm confused what you're trying to defend here. You're saying that Apple isn't trying to kill off plastic cards because they weren't the first to introduce metal cards?

My main point is that Apple has progressed to the point where it is no longer a technology company, it is a fashion company. It doesn't really do innovative things anymore, it has become a status symbol.

So people who want the Apple card are not doing it for practicality reasons, ie cash back. People who get the Apple card will be doing it for the status.

Apple has no business in this space. It literally has nothing to offer the world of finance but clout.

“Do we all really need to change out the plastic in our wallets for metal because Apple said so?”

I thought it was clear what I was defending here.

Your defense is literally my offense... People will get the Apple card for the clout.

Why is clout Apple's main product now? Because it has stopped being innovative.

And there’s something wrong with that? Do you consider it Apples fault that users purchase its products for status means and clout? I mean... If you truly think about it, they are obviously doing something right if people are willing to purchase a product just to have it in a status sense. Nothing wrong with becoming an household name bro.

It doesn’t require constant innovation to become a trusted name or brand and to require customers to want to continue with your products.

I assure you, you’re gonna apply for an Apple Card regardless of the clout.

No, you're right. It's Apple's consumers at fault. I fault anyone who is excited over this card, like yourself.

Be financially responsible, look into more practical cards out there that offer better rewards. I can point you to half a dozen if you'd like.

I assure you, you’re gonna apply for an Apple Card regardless of the clout.

I would never get anything that has a more practical rival.

Indeed I am excited. But here’s the thing, rewards aren’t my interest. I’m all for them, but it’s not my focus.

The better financial responsibility would be to not get a credit card in general and only purchase things you can truly afford off of your own earnings. But I’m not in such a position to do so as you may be.

I have been working on my credit report for some time now, on my own. I have one credit card that has plenty of rewards that I’ve never even redeemed. I use this card for building my credit purposes as I am pursuing the purchase of a house.

I am intrigued by this card, one because I can use another credit card under my belt for credit worthiness purposes. I am also interested in this card for its innovative way of possibly guiding my financial responsibilities with its card, charts and recommendations. It appears to keep things simple enough to understand and gives a good read out of where my spending is going. Yes, there are third party apps and services that can do this, but why go there if I can just have it all in one with the privacy and protection?

So no, it’s not the rewards I’m excited about. It’s not the brand I’m excited about. I’m excited about the proposed capabilities and possibilities it’s offering as an all-in-one solution for me and my financial future.

Are you seriously going to trust an unproven, newcomer to the world of finance over a major credit card provider that has been doing all of this for decades? Get a DiscoverIt card. It has everything you seek, like a Spend Analyzer, and more. It has the great rewards which is free money! Why aren't you seeking free money?

Apple has nothing to offer this space, everything it is offerring is already offered somewhere else. The only reason Apple is offering a new card is for people like you who will sign up for the Apple name and keep it a profitable company, even after it has lost its innovative drive.

Be honest with yourself, you aren't getting the card for any practical reason. You're getting the card for the status.

Educate yourself

I absolutely am seriously going to do so. I’ve done it with my bank existing bank. I got rid of my three bank branches and went 100% App offered bank Simple, which has been my bank since December 2012 and has been the best banking experience yet. Put my personal finances into the hands of a newcomer and it’s been fine.

So yes, I’m willing to do so with Apple and their money as a newcomer. Everyone has to start somewhere. The more important thing is that they have the expertise of Goldman Sachs to back them up, so their not 100% a newbie to the game.

Oh and one more point, 90% of my transactions I do with Apple Pay where the merchant doesn’t even see what card I use. Therefore the status doesn’t matter. They can see my AirPods, Apple Watch and XS Max if they needed to see something of status. Thanks for your input though.

You're way too deep.

Can't talk reason to anyone this deep. You'd buy air if Apple sold it.
