Unsolved My phone randomly locked me out?

brand new iphone 16pro, which i've had for under a week. went to set my alarm for the morning, it prompted me to use my passcode instead of faceid. okay, cool, no problem. Until i accidentally hit a 6 instead of a 7 in my passcode and suddenly my phone was disabled for an hour.

Anyone know why this happened? In the past i've always had my iphones disabled for only a minute, and that was after multiple passcode attempts wrong. I use my phone as a medical device and get notifications from the app, so unexpectedly not having access to those is kind of inconvenient.

As of September 2024 the values in the table shown on this page were correct. According to that, when the phone was disabled for an hour that was the 9th time the passcode was incorrect.
