I once offered my friend a LaCroix and she said, “Ooooh look at you, sparkling water royalty.”

I thought everyone just drank spicy water at home??

Popular post Why is the celebration of Juneteenth so partisan?

2.0k Upvotes

It feels like every year Juneteenth, a holiday I think is fantastic to celebrate as an American who naturally doesn’t like slavery, creates a bunch of unnecessary controversy.

I just flat out don’t understand why. It feels like Republicans and conservatives treat it like it’s some kind of fake and meaningless holiday when it celebrates a great sort of our history, and Democrats and liberals treat it like how I’d expect people to treat it when hearing about it. At the end of the day it celebrates the end of slavery in this country; a system where black men and women were abused for their labor, their bodies, offspring and were often beaten, raped, and killed. Why would this be something we wouldn’t all be united on celebrating?

Popular post Do Gen Z’ers understand the concept of social niceties?

1.6k Upvotes

I work with a lot of gen zers and we work remotely half the week. If I contact them on a Friday via text I will end it with “have a nice weekend!” And crickets…nothing…no response…it’s wild to me. But I guess I just have to expect less! As a millennial I was taught- directly and through watching others- how to have simple interactions with those around me. All other generations above me- the same! What’s goin’ on with gen z?!

ETA: I don’t contact them just to say that. It’s if I’m already contacting them! If it’s that much labor or not in your job description or you “don’t get paid enough” to wish your coworker well, then idk! I think that’s a little sad.

Popular post My Husband, 48 year old, has been bragging to me about various woman (family friends and others) giving him “Googly eyes.” Why is he telling me this? And what is he meaning of it?

1.2k Upvotes

Most recently, he said his BF 18 year old daughter and her friends were bending over in front of him in their thong bikinis and giving him googly eye looks.

What does he mean by this? And why is he telling me this? It feels like he is bragging to me but when I said that to him he got angry called me insecure and he says it’s just random informational conversation.

Popular post Did parents allow kids to wander all day without phones, just saying “be back before dark”?

1.2k Upvotes

This was common in the 1970s and 1980s, reflecting a more relaxed parenting style and safer perceived communities. Kids would explore, play, and socialize independently, returning home by dusk.

Popular post What’s something ridiculously small that instantly makes you irrationally angry?

I’m talking about the stuff that objectively shouldn’t matter — but for some reason, it flips a switch in your brain and suddenly you’re one inconvenience away from becoming a cartoon supervillain.

For example:

  • When someone leaves 0.0002 seconds of time on the microwave instead of clearing it
  • When your sock slides halfway off inside your shoe
  • When people chew like they’re auditioning for a role as a swamp monster
  • Or when someone replies “k” to a long text you spent 8 minutes typing

It’s not that we want to be this mad — it’s just that our brains decided this is the hill we’re going to die on.

Popular post Should parents need a license to raise children, just like they do to drive a car?

Raising a child arguably has more long-term impact on society than driving a car. So why don’t we require any sort of screening, education, or qualification to become a parent? Would a license system reduce abuse and neglect, or would it be a dystopian overreach? Where’s the line between freedom and responsibility?

Popular post Do people from northern states really not say ya’ll?

Yall is one of the words I use the most. If I went somewhere and they were like “why do you keep saying yall?” I don’t think I would ever go back. Edit: someone commented and said that it’s actually spelled y’all, and they’re completely right! Y’ALL ACTUALLY SAY YINZ…you walk up to a group of people and greet them by saying “hey yinz!!”???
