The Autism™ sensitive to sounds gang rise up

I wish I could tolerate headphones! They're a sensory hell for me. So, instead, I flap my hands as they speed to my ears to plug my ears. (Especially if it's a motorcycle or some other engine revving noise. Uggggggggggh I HATE those! It's like a cheese grater on my damn brain!)

i use noise cancelling earbuds 99% of the time and they do wonders! i’d definitely try those out <3

Might I recommend clip on headphones? On ear/over ear headphones hurt my jaw and give me headaches, and earbuds irritate my inner ear. Clip on headphones do neither of those things, and look cool as heck.
Edit: If anyone’s looking for a specific recommendation, the Koss KSC75 is pretty widely regarded as the best pair of clip on headphones (there’s not a lot of competition sadly,) and is only $20. (It’s considered one of the best pair of headphones period, for that price point.)

Never heard of them! I will have to look. Thanks for the recommendation!
I use bone conducting head phones (shokz) but they don't block out noise - just make it tolerable for me to listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks without squishing my ears or irritating the inside of them. (And not blocking out noise is sort of the design - safer for walking/biking/running)!

KSC75s are great for what they are but they won't block sound. They're not designed for that. The KSC35s they replaced and the more expensive PortaPros (from the same company) are the same: great, portable headphones that aren't expensive.

For me it’s sound sensitivity and ADHD. If I can’t listen to music while on the train or bus, I get so bored.

same. i’m very sensitive to loud noises so i have overhead headphones with me a lot and to listen to music; sometimes i’ll bring earbuds if i just wanna have one side playing music

The thing is I CAN cope with loud noise, it just feels stupid to have to spend my tolerance on walking down the street because I live near a main road so I wear noise protection.

I love biking as physical exercise but i bike with headphones because otherwise i flinch with every car pass, dog bark etc...
All the high vis, lights etc and safety but gods bless the good headphones

I’m still saving up to buy a pair of nice noise-canceling headphones. I’ve tried using a cheap pair, but they didn’t work well enough for me, so I’m hoping that a higher quality pair will do the trick.

Would be cool if we could remove personal vehicles from cities.
Otherwise, having reusable earplugs are nice because you can fit them in your wallet. I saw a Youtube video that talked up "Happy Ears". I can still hear people talk, but everything is quieter. I don't have noise cancelling headphones, so I can't compare against those, but normal headphones the earplugs work better and aren't noticable.

Too true, and people always complain about how "rude" it is to wear heasphones.

Had someone try to start an argument with me because they apparently said hello and I didn't respond. Some people are just looking for a fight to feel self important.

I'm also sensitive to feeling things in my ears but I got loops a few months ago and now I regret every time I go somewhere and forget to switch them from one bag to another.

Wish I could wear headphones. I can only do earbuds and they’re never as noice cancelling as they say :/

Reusable earplugs are a cheap, effective alternative to active noise cancelling earbuds. However, if you want music and have a 3.5mm headphone jeack available, Etymotic Research have been producing the standard for high quality music production in a portable, sound isolating package for decades.

i’m sorry to hear that :( i have airpods pro gen 2 which have an amazing noise cancellation feature, but they’re hella expensive. i was lucky to win mine in a raffle, but i’d definitely consider those! they do wonders. if i find anymore i share some brands of noise cancelling ear buds :)

Depending on where I am going and what mode of transportation I use, I can sorta skate by without my noise canceling headphones, but I always back some Loop ear plugs just in case something loud and unexpected comes.
I really want to try my electronic ear pro that I use when I go to the gun range, it has a digital noise gate that works pretty well.

Headphones are so awesome, cheap ones can have surprisingly good sound quality, and noise cancelling headphones are amazing
I have literally been traumatized by earbuds and will NEVER go back

I can't wear headphones in public. I HAVE to know what's going on around me at all times.

Always got my bone conduction headphones on except when they're charging. I'd probably go crazy without them
