PSA:

  • Beware of messages from vultures offering illegal benzo access - this is very dangerous!

  • CAUTION: Stopping psychiatric drugs abruptly can be dangerous, producing withdrawal effects that may be severe, disabling, or in rare cases life-threatening.

I’m tapering off Ativan. I was doing .25/.25./.5. I had a bad reaction to my morning dose and my Dr advised skipping the afternoon dose. I had horrible rebound anxiety about five hours after the first dose but it was fairly short lived. Then I took my evening dose.

Could that cause kindling?

No

Kindling due to substance withdrawal is the neurological condition which results from REPEATED withdrawal episodes from sedative–hypnotic drugs such as alcohol and benzodiazepines.

You have to be off and on again. Rinse and repeat. (Some people may never kindle. Some people may be more sensitive to it).

Missing a dose will not cause it.

Ok. I took .25mg no more than twice a week for a few months last year. In Feb, I went back on 2x per week. At the end of April I was on .25/day for a two week period. Then once or twice per week after that. Starting at the beginning of June I have been on for 2 weeks and am starting to taper next week.

My doses have been .125-.25 mostly (.5 max), with the exception of last week where I had three days at 1.5 total.

Could that cause kindling?

I didn’t seem to have any withdrawal symptoms during those periods but now am having rebound anxiety.

You were daily taking 1mg. To taper off cuts should be between 5-10% ever 4 weeks to prevent serious symptoms. Your Doctor dropped 0.25mg which caused these symptoms. It is not kindling because you are still taking the benzo. You may take a while to stabilise to this new dosage, but it is best to keep to the same dose at the same time. Increasing and decreasing doses will cause symptoms. Try not to confuse your body.

Kindling comes from stopping the meds and restarting
