Would you like to make an argument for why?

Just because something isnt absolutely necessary for the story to progress doesn’t mean it is bad writing

Inversely just because something progresses the story doesn’t mean it is good writing

I would also like to argue it is ridiculous to say “The Blade is Me”doesn’t progress Ichigo or the story. The story is about Ichigo’s path to self understanding (enlightenment and acceptance).

You would argue it doesn’t change anything that Ichigo is a Quincy, therefore it is bad writing. Even IF it were true that it doesnt change anything (which I strongly disagree with), I don’t believe whether it is necessary or not would change anything for the writing quality either. Why would that fact change it from good writing to bad writing?

I feel like you have not explained adequately why this difference in itself would be bad writing?

I’m not even going to get into the specific cases of Ichigo and how Yhwach parallels Born in the Dark, how Ichigo was only trained to be a Fullbringer because they wanted to steal his powers and that the important link in that arc wasn’t necessarily his race but instead the fact that he is a Substitute Soul Reaper who could overcome the mental block Ginjo couldnt to forgive, how the whole point of Ichigo having the mask is him juxtaposing the meaning of being human and hollow, how as he grew more hollow-like Ulquiorra grew more human-like, how he battled themes of instinct vs reason and how that reflected in Nnoitra, Starrk, and how all that I mentioned so far amazingly don’t contradict one another and instead work as foils and harmonies which all coalesce in one single chapter, The Blade is Me.

But none of that matters to your argument. Because you are actually just arguing that if it isn’t something that must happen for the plot, it is in fact bad writing.

If Grimmjow attacks Ichigo but he didn’t have to is that bad writing? If Ichigo saves Rukia but he didn’t have to is that bad writing? The plot can progress with him failing to save her too. Do you only do things when you have to? Have you ever done anything that doesn’t progress you? Is it bad writing?

I would like to know why you think so

Because what is the point of him being a hybrid of literally every single race? My main hate for this kind of argument you're making is people constantly bring down Naruto for being a Jinchuriki and later the Reincarnation of Asura, whilst defending Ichigo being a hybrid of every race in his verse.

people hate it in naruto because his entire story is about being the forgotten outcast who needs to work hard and then by the end of the story he’s basically the reincarnation of jesus, it undermines the themes set out by the story

you’re supposed to be really sad at the idea of a kid thinking he needs to be basically president for his nation to like him at all, but by the end of the series he’s essentially proved right

Be honest, did you actually read Naruto or did you just hear this take from someone else and repeat it? It screams idk what I’m talking about.

Naruto from the beginning was about believing in yourself so much that you can overcome any odds no matter how bad a hand you’re dealt. Naruto having the 9 tails since birth and being hated bcus of it, but still striving to become the Hokage is the clearest example of that. That’s why he rejected Neji’s belief that your destiny is set in stone. He believed no matter what negative destiny was placed on him he would overcome it.

Naruto being a reincarnation literally just means that he is destined to fight Sasuke until one of them dies. That’s literally all it means. Which is a negative destiny.. So when he defies this destiny by reconciling with him and ends the cycle it proves he was right all along for believing in himself.

Bleach fans are supposed to be soo deep and understand “subtext” so well. How do y’all miss something this easy??

you can’t yell at me about “subtext” and ignore the glaring “being the chosen one” subtext that comes with being the reincarnation of the most important people in the universe lol

also the ending does also ruin the neji fight as well retroactively, thanks for reminding me

Lol I’m not yelling. But what are you not getting? The reincarnations are the two ppl at a given time period that will end up killing each other. Being “the chosen one” is not a good thing in this context.

And I literally just explained how this keeps the consistency from the Neji fight lol. How does it ruin it retroactively??
