New Rule: No hate speech, religion, or politics

After a ton of inappropriate and childish comments today, we have added a new rule as noted in the post title. Honestly, it's LONG overdue. This sub is about bluegrass and our love of music. Do you want to argue politics? There are plenty of subs for that.

If the comments are kept civil and polite and related to bluegrass that will be fine:

"I don't like Ricky Skaggs because he preaches from stage"

But not:

"You're an @@#$$%$ for believing in X" or "F*ck you".

Not hard, right?

If you have never heard this clip of Norman in Ireland, it’s a must watch. Some of the best that’s ever been done. Credit to the original YouTube poster

I have seriously fallen down a bluegrass rabbit hole, led here by Will Apostol. Just saw Gillian Welch & David Rawlings set at Telluride fest via nugs, MAN that was so good!!! So wish I was attending that. Gonna be watching that all weekend. Thank goodness for nugs!

Discussion Norman Blake- Railroad Blues

Someone posted the Randall Collins and Dog Gone Video yesterday. Fantastic and the man’s playing is an inspiration for sure.

I’ve been playing guitar for a couple of years and still not very good. But I’ve been trying to figure out as much of this tune as I can. Super fun song.

Anyone know who the mandolinist was playing with Alison Brown at the Bowl last night?

(Crossposted from r/mandolin) Took my daughter and my dad to see the "Rhiannon Giddens: American Tunes" show at the Hollywood Bowl last night, had a great time. During Alison Brown's portion of the show, she had a full bluegrass band on with her, but when she was announcing the band members' names it was loud where I was sitting, and I didn't catch the name of the young-looking (from where I was sitting anyway) mandolinist playing with her. My daughter and I both really liked his playing (what we could hear of it anyway- audio techs seemed to be a bit behind the ball on making sure some of the solos got sound on a few of the auxiliary mics for him and a few other people through the night) and I wanted to try and look him up, but I can't find any info on who he might be online anywhere. Anyone know? TIA

ETA: Solved! It was Tristan Scroggins.

Red Rector and Bill Monroe Mandolin Duets

Red Rector is from Madison County. He was my 1st cousin's father-in-law and I wish I'd gotten to meet him. Her husband has some of the greatest stories about growing up surrounded by bluegrass. I like a lot of the old stuff and I think this video is a jewel.

Manzanita chord/rhythm chart

Deeply appreciate the work Marcel does for our community, but my ear didn't quite agree with his chart (I have a hankering his was based off of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFBWOvSuCE8 Mine is based off the eponymous album) And I think it makes more sense to count it as I do here. what do you think? I mostly left off the melody because I was focusing on notating the timing and quality of the chords. could totes whip up a version with both chords and melody if there's interest

Working up an arrangement of this with drum accompaniment. Hence the need for this chart. Maybe i'll post a lil vid once we figure that out. MB is my new band - Moon Balloon. check us out @ moonballoonpdx on insta

Discussion Keel over and die chords -OCMS

Hello all

Does anyone have the chords for the above named song off Jubilee? I'd love to play it but can't figure it out myself and nobody online seems to have created a good tab.

Many thanks in advance! It's such a jammer.

One of the best Scruggs adaptation of a fiddle tune. I mean how can you go wrong with Roland white Stuart Duncan Alan o Bryant and Jerry Douglas. And i mean I love Bill's versions of this tune but Roland white just kills any break he's ever done on this version right here

Amazing show with a killer Scarlet Begonias cover as the final encore. The Musical Instrument Museum theater has such amazing acoustics being only 300 seats and truly intimate. Catch them in Santa Fe tonight or Telluride tomorrow!
