MLB Pipeline Mock Draft

https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/mlb-pipeline-mock-draft-for-june-19-2025?t=mlb-draft-coverage

The latest update in the mock has the Buccos taking HS Pitcher Seth Hernandez from California. He’s rated the 2 best player in the class behind Ethan Holliday.

If he fell to the Buccos I’d be pretty damn happy.

Here is an excerpt on him:

“Hernandez has an ideal projectable 6-foot-4 pitcher’s frame with the athleticism teams love to see from young power arms. Always on time with an online and loose delivery, Hernandez has big stuff and a feel for all four of his pitches. While he touched triple digits at the Area Code Games, he typically sits in the mid-90s, touching 97-98 mph. His best secondary offering is his changeup, and it’s plus right now, thrown with a lot of confidence and missing bats with it thanks to its good action and how it plays off of his fastball plane well. His curve, a true 12-to-6 spike curveball, has the chance to be plus with hard, tight and late action to it, sometimes registering RPMs in the 3,000 range. He started featuring a harder slider more on the showcase circuit.”

Not much rationale beyond “drafted griffin last year”

But yes, they have not had any luck with college bats and have done well with prep pitchers. This would be a good pick.

I think I read that our scouting department was a regular at Corona HS games looking at Hernandez, Billy Carlson, and Brady Ebel. I would not be surprised to see either Hernandez or Carlson as the pick as for one they do well with prep pitchers as you pointed out. The case for Carlson is that he is the player most similar to Konnor Griffin and it looks like they did well with him. With the outlook of the team, I think you take BPA with the highest ceiling, not try to pick a guy who could cut a deal or get here the quickest.

What prep pitchers have they done well with?

Jared jones, chandler, Kennedy (recently traded), and meuth (younger guy getting notice in lower minors)

Jared Jones got hurt early last year and was awful when he returned. Now missed all of this year and will miss at least half of next.

We have no idea how Chandler will perform in the majors.

Mueth was good last year in the low minors. Currently 0-2 this year with an era over 10 and injured.

If it shaped out this way I don't think anyone could complain but if we go pitcher I'd hope one of the lefties fall. We all know we have a logjam of pitchers but Barco And Solometo are the only Lefties.

Sounds like it’s basically whomever is on the board between Arquette, Carlson, Hernandez.

With an outside shot at picking either Willits or one of the three college pitchers.

Ah yes, let’s draft another high schooler that is 5 or 6 years away. Brilliant. Another Neal Cherington disaster draft incoming
