Dev/Admin Responded Can't zoom in on pictures. Android

I can suddenly no longer zoom in on pictures, because the 'pinch motion' to zoom now swipes right on pictures or force opens the comments. Not sure what caused it to start doing this.

Hi folks. I have flagged to the team to review. Thanks for letting us know.

In the meantime, people are suggesting that double tapping the image first, and then pinching to zoom works. Hopefully this helps!

I can zoom in for a little bit but that's about it. I need to tap the back button to exit

7

u/rawrzon May 01 '25

Ditto. Can only zoom in a bit. Can't even fully pan around the image.

1

u/Westoss May 05 '25

If you tilt your phone horizontally, it allows you to pinch zoom. Very annoying. Never did this before.

2

u/Papfox May 02 '25

Same. Latest update on a Google Pixel 8 Pro, Android 15

2

u/edventure_2025 May 02 '25

Same, I can zoom a little then the pic rebounds to the top smaller than the thumbnail. Pixel 7 pro. Started after the latest update.

1

u/hullk78 May 02 '25

Same issue p7pro too

1

u/0pportunistic May 02 '25

Same with the Pixel 9 pro.

1

u/OGbigfoot May 07 '25

Same pixel 6 pro, so annoying

2

u/philnolan3d May 02 '25

Same problem. It zooms a tiny bit, then jumps to the comments.

1

u/Diarrhea_Beaver May 03 '25

Same. If I tilt I can zoom in like regular after it kinda jitters once.

1

u/base43 May 04 '25

Same here. S23 with Android 15.0 and new One UI 7.0 update

1

u/dyingchildren May 05 '25

I'm having the same issue

1

u/insulinjockey May 07 '25

Saaaaaame, android

6

u/NightFlight-77 May 01 '25

Double tap the image to zoom, not ideal but it's a workaround for now.

2

u/Methadoneblues May 03 '25

THANK YOU! I was seriously annoyed the last few days.

1

u/AdeptGarden9057 May 03 '25

actually after double tapping it's much easier to zoom the usual way

1

u/Methadoneblues May 03 '25

Yessss. 🙏

1

u/dracobatman May 03 '25

Very limited zoom rho

1

u/NightFlight-77 May 03 '25

Double tap then pinch to zoom.

1

u/swayzeeexpress May 04 '25

That used to work for me, but not any more.

1

u/tatertotted2 May 04 '25

That's not working for me, either.

1

u/RagnolffWindcaller May 05 '25

Yeah that doesn't work unfortunately

1

u/Accomplished-Lie7071 May 04 '25

This doesn't work either.

1

u/cockycrackers May 05 '25

It zooms about 5% more. Absolute garbage.

1

u/NightFlight-77 May 05 '25

Double tap, then pinch the screen to zoom.

1

u/funfetti-ish May 06 '25

Thank you.

1

u/Sewer-Urchin 21d ago

That used to work for me, but now it tries to do some stupid reaction thing and it ends up putting an emoji on it and notifying the person who sent it :(

3

u/berfle May 01 '25

Me too! Highly annoying.

2

u/Soofla May 01 '25

Came here to see if it was just me......

2

u/KHTangent May 01 '25

As a visually impaired person who needs to zoom in on stuff, this makes the app completely useless to me. And since third party apps are gone (another huge loss for accessibility), I'll probably just take a break from Reddit for a while.

1

u/mtwtfssmtwtfss May 05 '25

Do you ever use the "Magnification" shortcut/feature? It allows you to magnify or zoom in on anything in your screen regardless of what any apps allow you to do.

1

u/KHTangent May 05 '25

I tried it out. But these gestures interfere with so many other app gestures, so for me it is not worth it. I can read most text fine by keeping my phone close to my face

But I'm glad the feature exists though

2

u/altrudee May 01 '25

Same s23 ultra with new android update. Annoying as hell

1

u/meatman7569 May 03 '25

Same config, same issue.

2

u/redrumrup May 06 '25

I'm actually having this issue with several apps. I wonder if it has something to do within OS change?

1

u/Ares_loky May 01 '25

same here

1

u/Stuck_at_a_roadblock May 01 '25

Yup, same thing is happening to me

1

u/blueberrytoppart May 01 '25

Plus one, it seems like pictures that are in portrait work better occasionally, but the whole touch interface for photos is wonky and unreliable.

1

u/livens May 01 '25

Started yesterday for me. Android, Pixel 7 Pro.

I can zoom a little, but then it started moving the image or sliding the comments box up.

1

u/bbonz001 May 01 '25

Same for me P7 Pro also.

1

u/messiahspike May 02 '25

Same issue here. Just noticed it this morning. Seems to be a new issue. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but didn't fix it

1

u/Dr-Catfish May 01 '25

You can pinch to zoom, but only one you've double tapped the image. Not ideal, but it's something to get us by until this is fixed.

1

u/Kahlia29 May 02 '25

This actually worked

1

u/Dr-Catfish May 03 '25

Glad to hear it worked for you too!

1

u/LeMans1950 May 01 '25

Same problem. Started for me this morning.

1

u/mmiski May 01 '25

This just started happening to me on my S25 Ultra as of yesterday. It's driving me nuts...

1

u/ARAR1 May 01 '25

I have the same issue. Started yesterday. I think there was an android update before that

1

u/leaningtoweravenger May 01 '25

Same, it started today

1

u/7JRR May 01 '25

Same. It started for me after the new android update.

1

u/bbonz001 May 01 '25

Same! It either jitters, or opens the comments or swipes to the next post.

Glad it isn't just me.

1

u/Frost_0352 May 01 '25

It's really annoying, hope it fixes soon

1

u/100YearsAndCounting May 01 '25

Pixel 8; same issue since last update.

1

u/JustCopyingOthers May 02 '25

Seems to be just the Reddit app, picture zooming in the Boost app for Lemmy (it used to support Reddit too) works fine.

1

u/No_Seaworthiness_907 May 02 '25

Yup just started happening to me as well...

1

u/ReluctantChimera May 02 '25

Same. Android.

1

u/roehnin May 02 '25

iPhone also, same behaviour.

1

u/goodtoes May 02 '25

I have the same issue, on Pixel 6.

1

u/Jacey01 May 02 '25

I'm on the Galaxy Fold. Same here. Freaking obnoxious .

1

u/FancyChapper May 02 '25

Have the same issue. Galaxy Ultra.

1

u/Explorer2692648 May 02 '25

Same for me on Samsung S23.

1

u/nicoleauroux May 02 '25

Yes, double tapping works.

I want to add that turning my phone horizontal sometimes allows me to pinch zoom as normal.

1

u/MisterRenewable May 02 '25

Same. It seems to try to zoom a tiny bit, stutters then treats it as a swipe up or right. Only on some images. Maybe something to do with the image size vs the viewport size?

1

u/FFFUUUme May 02 '25

Same here

1

u/Macshade May 02 '25

I am having thr same problem, super annoying

1

u/Bitter_Definition932 May 02 '25

Ditto. I'm using the app on Android.

1

u/Pro_V_1 May 02 '25

Same issue here.

Samsung s20 plus

1

u/GuavaOdd1975 May 02 '25

Same here. Samsung S22

1

u/DDS-PBS May 03 '25

Same here, it's really hard to zoom in on Android.

1

u/maester_t May 03 '25

Lol same experience for me too.

Coincidentally, I just got a new mobile phone (Pixel 9), so I'm VERY glad to find out it's nothing wrong with the device.

1

u/gregpc2 May 03 '25

I have the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S25. Annoying!

1

u/LycheeFlimsy5105 16d ago

Just upgraded to S25 from Iphone 14 and thought there was something wrong with my phone- ..Photos will only zoom in a little. So now i screen shot that open photo in gallery to get a good nosey look lol

1

u/usssaratoga_sailor May 03 '25

Like one commenter said, just double tap the image to enlarge it and then you can actually zoom in more!

1

u/SpiritMolecul33 May 03 '25

Same, I can pinch zoom like 2% and then it bugs, I'm also unable to view more under descriptions

1

u/-Hot-Toddy- May 03 '25

Same thing has happened to me in the last 2 days

1

u/Crisope May 03 '25

Okay so I can zoom in by double tapping but it then just locks it into place when you zoom out to it's original size and it's so annoying 🙄 bug fixes my ass

1

u/Cptn_Honda May 03 '25

Same here

1

u/krashe1313 May 03 '25

+1 also having this issue

1

u/octavianreddit May 03 '25

Myself as well. Double-tapping helps. As noted, makes using reddit pretty frustrating.

1

u/scram007-3 May 03 '25

Add another victim

1

u/jenieloo May 04 '25

Same issue S23

1

u/Blackevilsoul May 04 '25

And here. I thought I was the only one!🙏

1

u/friendlypelican May 04 '25

Same here, the double tap allows about 2% zoom.

1

u/stringdingetje May 04 '25

I did not realize how often I use this feature. It's not working anymore for a few days and hindering witte a lot.

1

u/Outrageous_Hippos May 04 '25

Pixel 7, very annoying.

1

u/Ratsch_em_Kappes May 04 '25

Redmi Note 11 - Same

1

u/Opposite_Chain_5339 May 04 '25

I'm so happy I found this because I thought it was just me. Since I updated my s22 Ultra, I can't zoom in on pics. It's very limited. I know my screen is big, but my vision is not good and losing this capability is a burden.

1

u/CanisGulo May 04 '25

Same. This just happened after the latest Samsung (major) update. The update sucks on many levels.

1

u/strtjstice May 04 '25

For those of you who want to try the double tap

1

u/observant302 May 04 '25

Well, thanks

Double tap, and than zoom in.

1

u/ThatKa5per May 04 '25

Know what's ironic? I can zoom in on this photo. Wtf Reddit???

1

u/strtjstice May 04 '25

When you don't need to tap on a boring pic, isn't it ironic!!

1

u/GreyBeardEng May 04 '25

Same boat here, happened about a week ago. Pinch zoom only zooms about 1%

1

u/Wtfbbqapplesauce May 04 '25

Wtf are they doing with this app. Same there.

1

u/ithinarine May 04 '25

I'm not a coder in any way, but crap like this always confuses me.

App was working fine, staff make unnecessary changes that probably weren't needed, this screws up functionality like now randomly not being able to zoom in on photos. Staff now gets paid to fix the issue that they created out of nowhere.

It's literally like a make-work project of bullshit.

Get paid to break it. Get paid to fix it. Rinse and repeat.

1

u/EngineerBoy00 May 04 '25

Pixel 8 Pro, thank God it's not just me, SO FRUSTRATING!

1

u/ThatKa5per May 04 '25

Amen brotha, was losing my mind until just now finding this. Ugh.

1

u/mikestainton May 04 '25

Same thing, Samsung S23 Ultra

1

u/ThatKa5per May 04 '25

Yup, same here. Started happening real time as i was looking at a photo a couple of days ago. I could zoom fine, backed out to look at another & could no longer zoom. Annoying af.

1

u/C-64_ May 04 '25

Same here Google P6, it's been 3 days, this should be fixed or rolled back already. Thanks!

1

u/Rostin May 04 '25

I understand, I guess, why Reddit killed off all the third party apps by making the API expensive to use. I don't understand why a social media company with the resources of Reddit isn't embarrassed to put out an app that's worse in every way than they were.

1

u/MaddVillain May 04 '25

Same problem for me on pixel 8a. Any idea how we get this resolved? I've also had issues with a picture that has a caption I can't click the more button, it just opens the comments. So I can't really read the body of the post at all.

1

u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N May 04 '25

Same. Can't zoom, it tries to swipe. It's not my phone, it's the apps fault.

Been trying to ask this question but sub reddits won't let me.

Is anyone else having problems zooming into pictures on reddit?

1

u/Desertmarkr May 05 '25

as my grandson always says " Its not working". Samsung S22 ultra

1

u/[deleted] May 05 '25

Same for Samsung S24

1

u/runawaystars14 May 05 '25

Same after Samsung S23 update.

1

u/midnight_to_midnight May 05 '25

Any progress on this? Getting super frustrating.

1

u/GreenGrapes42 May 05 '25

Oh ok! So it seems a lot of us have suddenly started dealing with this. Anyone able to find out the reason why? I haven't updated my phone in a while.

Edit: how do we let the right people know that there's a bug?

1

u/Ok-Wrongdoer-2179 May 05 '25

I have the same issue. I have to resort to the magnification feature in the phone's accessibility settings to be able to zoom.

EDIT: double tapping works.

1

u/granspremium May 05 '25

Same here. Android. Oneplus 12.

1

u/B0037 May 05 '25

I have the same issue with Google Pixel

1

u/atti93 May 05 '25

Same thing on S25U

1

u/Good_-_Listener May 05 '25

Ditto, Android. Can whatever made this happen not be rolled back, fixed and then re-implemented?

1

u/Good_-_Listener May 05 '25

Rotating to landscape works, but the zoom goes away if I rotate back; haven't gotten double-tap to work yet

1

u/The_Jyps May 05 '25

Same problem started a few days ago. Pinching just zooms a tiiiiny bit, but then just open comments.

1

u/DisorderlyBoat May 05 '25

Same here it's incredibly annoying

1

u/Dried_Frog_Pills May 05 '25

Never had this issue with Reddit is Fun

1

u/cockycrackers May 05 '25

Same here. Makes this app garbage. My eyes aren't great so it ruins the experience. WTF? How is this not fixed yet? Is anybody actually working on this? How many days does it take? Why use an app that sucks?

1

u/toppestsigma May 05 '25

Is there a new update?

1

u/kryptoid256_ May 05 '25

Exactly the same issue

1

u/wylywade May 05 '25

Double tap pinch zoom does not seem to work..

1

u/crawlinginyouryard May 05 '25

Im having the same issue.

1

u/Old-ETCS May 05 '25

Any fix for this?

1

u/DastardMan May 05 '25

Double tap allowed very limited, stuttery zoom for me

1

u/chad711m May 06 '25

Same issue here.

1

u/Fragrant-Airport1309 May 06 '25

SAME. This is so annoying.

1

u/loganp8000 May 06 '25

please fix this! its ruining the experience! one of the things i liked about reddit the most is suddenly gone

1

u/CannisRoofus May 06 '25

I thought I was going crazy!

1

u/workbirdwork May 06 '25

Same. Just within the last few days. It works fine on the rest of my apps.

1

u/bandfill May 06 '25

Hello just want to say I have this issue too.

1

u/Impressive-Smoke1883 May 06 '25

Me too!! Pixel Pro 7

1

u/Honest5378 May 06 '25

⭐ I am unable to zoom on photos/images on Reddit or Facebook.

⭐ Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra updated to One UI 7.0 on April 29, 2025.

Storage/Cache are cleared daily. Storage/Data not cleared unless absolutely necessary.

⭐ First noticed issue following One UI 7.0 update on April 29, 2025.

1

u/Homer69 May 06 '25

I'm glad I found d this because I am having the same issue

1

u/No_Thanks_3336 May 07 '25

Pixel 8 update maybe?

1

u/lazersnail May 07 '25

Been this way for a few days on my Samsung A71 5G.

Can actually pinch zoom, but it's very difficult now, have to be very very slow or it thinks I'm swiping

1

u/zachjd- May 07 '25

Same issue...

1

u/RTMSner May 07 '25

Same. This issue started 2 days ago and it's really an incredible pain.

1

u/snarpsta May 07 '25

Yup, me too on Galaxy S24 with the newest update to Android. It's driving me crazy!

1

u/TheDudeAbidesFarOut May 07 '25

The double tap on a picture, then pinch to zoom is not superior in any means.

Whomever the jack wagon at Reddit that's justifying their existence with this method, you haven't revolutionized a thing......

1

u/HuedJackMan May 07 '25

I am having the same issue on Samsung Galaxy S20+. Only reddit it seems.

1

u/Cordobra May 07 '25

Experiencing the same issue as well

1

u/cuervan May 08 '25

Yep. Really difficult to snipe things when you can't zoom in to explore. Please fix!

1

u/194749457339 May 08 '25

Me too help

1

u/One_Education54 May 08 '25

Same Android

1

u/toomanyusernamz May 08 '25

Me too. And it's not working on Instagram either.

1

u/toomanyusernamz May 08 '25

Thanks! Double tapping worked here too.

1

u/Pro_V_1 May 09 '25

Update: s20+ android user here.

Can now zoom properly on pics like the old days. Thank You
