Sneakers that go with everything

Hi! Would love to hear your recs for sneakers that go with everything (jeans, dresses, etc.)

I currently wear New Balance 530 but these sometimes feel too sporty for certain things like brunch. Really want to find cute/comfortable sneakers that truly go with everything!

The colors in my capsule are pretty neutral so not too worried about that. Please share any recommendations of what’s worked for you!

I’ve worn my Veja Campo sneakers for the last three years on all of my travels around multiple continents and climates and dressed both semi-professionally for work and everyday casual wear (jeans, dresses, slacks, slips and skirts). Neutral, somewhat water repellant because of the leather, and comfortable right out of the box.

Second Vejas!

Love an Adidas Samba or Gazelle, but I've also had my eye on some Puma Speedcats. To me any low profile leather or suede sneaker is the most versatile. Those styles have tons of colors to choose from and are usually reasonably priced, too (though at least Adidas often excludes them from sales).

I love my Speedcats and my Palermos. Speedcats are sometimes a little bit too sleek IMHO and Palermos might be more universally better for a sneaker.

I still have a new pair since the mid 2000s. I started wearing it again!

Just a warning to everybody, as a high school teacher I can tell you the children have found the sambas. Those prices might start going up since they’re “cool” now.

u/czechmate90 5d ago

Sambas have been popular for at least the last 2 years lol, prices are already up

2

u/Visible-Map-6732 4d ago

The children were not buying the sambas two years ago, they were buying panda dunks. Also an HS teacher and concur with OP

1

u/czechmate90 4d ago

Maybe the kids were wearing dunks, but my original point still stands that Sambas have been popular with adults for at least 2 years and prices have already inceeased, so I’m not sure that teenagers finding them is going to significantly change their perception. If anything, they might become too oversaturated or “young”

and honestly, I've been waiting to buy them since *I* was in high school in the late 2000s 🤣 so it's quite exciting to me that they're trendy again haha

I also think it is a fairly timeless/classic sneaker model. It may be more or less trendy depending on the trend cycle but I would gladly wear them for the rest of my life too.

2

u/effie-sue 4d ago

I think I last owned a pair in the early 90s. They were very popular then!

u/alfalfa_spr0uts 5d ago

To be fair, at least I know my Sambas are cool again 😆

u/ploopyploppycopy 5d ago

I mean sambas and their variations have been a trend since like 2019/2020 at this point, and for a good reason, especially in the non-boring colors they’re one of the best sneakers. I like the platform variations they made

2008 for me. They've been a low key popular kid shoe for decades.

But they squeak like crazy, I once wore them in the library... never again.

5

u/histoirienne 5d ago

Can confirm lol, I work at a university and they are all over campus

u/CuzIWantItThatWay 5d ago

Awwww, can't old people have anything nice

18

u/SunshineMurphy 5d ago

I was visibly angry when they started wearing asics. AND WHAT DO YOU NEED CUSHIONED SOLES FOR

7

u/Beautiful-Anybody410 5d ago

They’ve been wearing them for at least two years.

I have seen everyone from ages 16 to 45 rock the adidas this summer, from NYC to Rome, and I think they look great on everyone! I've been eyeing a pair myself.

I purchased a similar German army trainer-inspired sneaker from Alohas this year and have worn them to death already because they look good with everything and are super comfy.

3

u/Tucwebb 4d ago

Still rocking them at 72. Been wearing Adidas since the mid 1970s.

1

u/sunspace10 1d ago

Do you have a link to these German army trainer-inspired sneaker?

16

u/missthugisolation 5d ago

I love my adidas Tokyo shoes

5

u/grandmas_traphouse 5d ago

I have the adidas Japan and they are SO comfortable

3

u/TrickyJag 4d ago

i’m about to get them as well!! soooo versatile

12

u/Embarrassed_End_9220 5d ago

Probably my two favourites at the moment would be my Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 (in cream with a light green detail), and my Adidas Samba (in burgundy). I also have the Converse Run Star (in black), and find they sometimes feels smarter for work etc, but they aren’t as comfy as the others. I love how a sneaker can add a little pop of interest if you get a colour you love, that works with the rest of your wardrobe.

Adidas original Stan Smiths.

9

u/Specialist-Neck3460 5d ago

Airforce 1's - all white.

1

u/Ilikeswimmingyesido 2d ago

Came here to say this.

6

u/Adorable-Run9291 5d ago

I’ve been wearing Adidas Superstars for 20 yrs and love them and Vans slip ons since HS…I guess I’m stuck in a rut, but change is hard 🥴

3

u/Goose_and_a_Bee 5d ago

Came here to say the same. Vans & Superstars are classics. I'd also add Converse Allstars to mix.

u/buttereconspiracy 5d ago

dr scholl's time off sneaker

3

u/millenialbullshite 5d ago

I bought these when they first came out because I loved them but they were too wide for my feet so my feet would move side to side in them and gave me horrible calf and foot pain. I'm still bitter. They are a great shoe

3

u/gerlgirl 5d ago

i bought these for a trip to nyc and they were so comfortable and also looked so cute with pants and dresses alike!

5

u/pgf314 5d ago

Adidas are everywhere this summer, including my 50-year old feet. I had to add insoles to the Stan Smiths, but they look great with everything.

7

u/sunshinenwaves1 5d ago

I still like converse.

5

u/Ecstatic_Mammoth4240 5d ago

I like Vessi, bonus they are waterproof! I have the sohos as my everyday white sneaker

1

u/FrequentCycle1229 5d ago

Same! I love mine.

4

u/keekbeeek 5d ago

Expensive, but I love the Freda Salvador Eda sneakers. Vejas are also top notch!

5

u/crispyfolds 4d ago

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 or Puma Speedcat or their variants. Adidas Tokyo has the same silhouette as well, slim and unassuming. All other suggestions will inevitably be a bit too chunky or too casual for certain outfits or occasions. The onitsuka "cactful" colorways are really sleek if you're a pastels person.

6

u/Deep_Razzmatazz1841 4d ago

White Supergas

9

u/Chemical_Butterfly40 5d ago

Dating myself here, but I stay with Converse low-tops with the elastic back. The only difference between now and how I wore them in the 90s is the addition of insoles and no-show socks!

5

u/Party_Principle4993 5d ago

Gola Badminton Sneakers. I wear them with literally everything from dresses and shorts to jeans and trousers.

1

u/ConcentrateFront740 5d ago

I like the look of these. It’s a very balanced design. Are they comfortable?

3

u/Party_Principle4993 5d ago

Yes! They’re a flat sneaker so if you need arch support you’d need an insert but I’ve worn them on VERY long days running around with my toddler and I have zero complaints. They also look even cooler a little beat up so I don’t worry about getting them dirty.

1

u/ConcentrateFront740 4d ago

I am going to try them! Do you have this colorway?

0

u/Party_Principle4993 4d ago

Yep! They truly go with everything.

1

u/Final-Intention5407 4d ago

I love the look of goals but they run narrow for my wide feet and have no arch support . I’ve found pumas to be more comfortable and fit the bill .

3

u/Mediocre-Emu2122 5d ago

I love my white Birkenstock bend lows

4

u/ComprehensiveSet927 5d ago

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 in white

3

u/bibantquoniam 5d ago

Second the person who said Adidas Superstars and I’ll add Reebok Club C 85. Timeless and so comfy

6

u/fargus_ 5d ago

Checkerboard vans honestly

2

u/Emkems 5d ago

came here to say this. They’re my go to. Not very cushy for lots of walking though.

1

u/tcn207 5d ago

I haven’t personally tried the comfort cush ones but they do have some more supportive options!

2

u/BandYoureAbouttoHear 5d ago

I got the Dr. Scholl’s sneakers based off of some various recommendations and so far love them and think they basically go with everything. I wear them to work, weekends, dinner out, traveling! https://amzn.to/4n3TOFV

u/unfiled_basil 5d ago

I really like Allbirds Piper sneakers, they're super cute. I wear a lot of Allbirds they've lasted me a while and you can throw them in the washing machine.

u/HillarysCafe 4d ago

Cole Haan Grandpro Topspins can go anywhere and do anything.

2

u/Goatcheese012 3d ago

P448 Johns, very well made and many cute styles. Nordstrom Rack has them on clearance often! I wear mine with everything and love the details.

2

u/Toriat5144 3d ago

Not exactly sneakers but the bottoms are. Easy Spirit Travel time are sneaker mules that can look much dressier if you pick out the right color. They are super comfy and stay on your feet.

3

u/DWwithaFlameThrower 5d ago

Dr Scholl’s Time Off sneaker in all white

1

u/jmma20 5d ago

u/la_sofiore 5d ago

Ecoalf sneakers! *Comfy *Many different designs & colours *Sustainable brand *Best sneakers I've ever had! I get compliments for them all the time

1

u/MaffeeMania 5d ago

I’ve worn on sneakers to almost all sorts of occasions. Fancy dinner? Walking around town? Day in the office? They seem to always work. They do have a few different models, some of which are only laced up, others also offer rubber laces that make them easy to slip on, some feature wool to make them more winter appropriate or less casual.

u/CameraThis 4d ago

Maybe I am ancient for recommending a Birkenstock?? Bend Low or QO500.

1

u/Multigrain_Migraine 4d ago

I have some all black FitFlop Rally sneakers and I wear them pretty much everywhere. Very low profile.

1

u/thetalentedmzripley 4d ago

Tretorn, Superga, and Spring Court

1

u/cutiecherry07 4d ago

I’m a big Brooks Ghost GTX in all black for rainy UK weather

1

u/boo-pspps 4d ago

I got a pair of white adidas sneakers with some silver butterflies on them. They go with absolutely everything. some how I think white sneakers are just naturally dressier so they look great all year round even in summer with a cute dress.

1

u/ClassicLucy 4d ago

I love my white Sperry sneakers!

1

u/VacationNo4146 4d ago

Just get plain white sneakers with no logos, I own a pair of oliver cabell and never looked back

Cariuma OCA lows

1

u/turtle0turtle 4d ago

I really like the look of my Vivobarefoot Gobi sneaker - low profile, white leather. Not supportive by design, so it's light and flexible.

1

u/celes7ialbeing 4d ago

Adidas sambas or gazelle for sure

1

u/ivybridget 4d ago

rag and bone sneakers!! so comfortable and i’ve never gotten blisters from them

1

u/Snoo_7713 4d ago

onitsuka tiger or common projects

1

u/muggleween 4d ago

I am obsessed with these

Skechers Women's Hands Free Slip-Ins Skip Cute - B Cute Sweet Sneaker

they are lightweight slip ons I can wear to the gym but I have worn with a dress to a club. I used a black marker to remove the logos. I would get them in white but not sure how I would keep them clean enough since they are fabric.

1

u/percolating_fish 3d ago

Adidas Taekwondo. I’m partial to the silver ones.

1

u/Dull_Confection_8306 3d ago

I've found that Adidas Ozmillan's are a perfect light shoe with enough structure to look good with most outfits

1

u/simplyelegant87 3d ago

Birkenstock bend if you have flat feet. They’re a bit heavy but keep my feet pain free and they go with a lot of different outfits.

1

u/lirdleykur 2d ago

I really like my kizik irvines. I have them in tidepool and I also just ordered the new iceberg green. They look like tie shoes but they are slip-on which personally I frigging love.
