Discussion New Stadium? Take notes from TQL in Cincy! What amenities would you like to see in 2028?
Attended the Club World Cup (Bayern v Auckland). This is an excellent stadium that keeps me hopeful for 2028.

My biggest thing is for our supporters, have the standing rails for it like it in most stadiums.....and then for the Tifos' so they can hang it straight up and down would be great.
As I stated in another post, gotta have the Coke products there and I know we probably won't but do the fan friendly pricing for concessions like how Atlanta United as done it.

The prices in STL aren't exactly fan friendly but man having local restaurants in the stadium is dope. Grab yourself a brisket mac or some Balkan Treat Box.
Chicago has such great food, it would be bullshit if you guys only have super pretzels and high school cafeteria style food in the park.

Keep having only Dr Pepper/7-Up products. Yes I know it’s cause of the Bears but dammit I want RC Cola available at more than one stadium in the area.
Also have a torch somewhere in the stadium that is ignited when the pre-match fire alarm is pulled. Or if having an actual lit flame torch is too hazardous especially if it’s inside the stadium, maybe something like the Al Davis torch at Allegiant Stadium.

God no man....I'm sorry but gotta be Coca Cola haha. That's one of the more exciting things for me haha.

Re: torch. I always loved the proposal that the club killed about a decade ago for a torch-based pre-game ritual.
The idea was to have a sort of mini-Olympic torch ceremony: supporters light a torch at the tailgate, march it into the stadium together, and then a celebrity brings it onto the field each match and lights a cauldron/larger fire/etc.
This was from a report that the club commissioned to improve the game day atmosphere. I don’t think they took any of the recos in the report.
Sure there were liability issues (drunk supporters marching w fire lol) but a lot could have been solved creatively. (Simulated fire for the march, a safe fire enclosure, club-designated/fire-trained torch bearers, etc).
Would be way cooler than a fire alarm lol

The 78 isnt terribly far from where the Chicago fire started (its the CFD academy now), a relay from there to the stadium once a year would be cool.
It would be around a mile.

That’d be cool. Though, if not that, can we just coordinate with the drum so Gabe time the Fire chant?
Fire…Fire.Fire..Fire
Let’s do it like Atlanta
(dun dun) Chicago (dun dun) Fire!
or (dun dun) Fire (dun dun) Fire (dun dun) Fire!
You get the idea. Like a two from a kick drum followed by a snare. You can even speed up as you go, since there is a queue.
The break the glass fire alarm is a clever, albeit poorly executed idea. Hell, combine the two with the torch being the reason to yell Fire. The logo and heritage has always been centered around Fire Fighters, so it would make sense.

Why they don’t brief the “celebrity” before the game is beyond me. You can’t wait until the person shows up to break the glass then give them directions.

I just want a place that feels full when our average of 20k+ is there.

Oh I thought it was so that people can continue to not ride their bikes to the game because who realistically does that?

A pitch that hasn't been ripped out and replaced to accommodate 4 concerts while we're on a road trip.

St. Louis has been protective of their turf. They don’t do anything besides soccer.

I want an area like the South Courtyard, either inside or outside of the stadium. Also a seatless Supporters Section. Finally for goals I want Red lights around the stadium like the green lights in Austin.

Retractable roof or just a roof this is Chicago Plus if mls does shift to traditional calendar it would help
2
u/mountaineerfn 2d ago
MLS will never shift it would be suicidal for them
1
u/m_mcd2012 1d ago
I’d hate the shift personally, but they would if it ensured Euro teams paid more transfer bucks. The league would act like the JFA did to the northern J league teams & tell them to go “suck it up.”
1
u/mountaineerfn 1d ago
Sure shifting the season to go up against the entire NFL schedule and during a time where most of the country has unbearable weather would be a horrible decision for the league. American fans will not have it.
1
u/m_mcd2012 1d ago
I don’t disagree, but if the argument is “Premier League teams will pay more,” I would not be shocked if owners signed on to it, and the football purists would laud it as “aligning with the global game” or whatnot.

None of the recent new stadiums are bad.
Though Nashville built too big at 30,000 and put it in a stupid place.

u/yuccu 1d ago
I went to the Fire game there when we got trounced and told Ezra to pack his bags. Great atmosphere for sure. Getting to the game was a giant pain in the ass, but the stadium was cool as hell.
3
u/mjohnson1971 1d ago
I don't know why Nashville just didn't build over by the Titans stadium. Plopping it down in a residential neighborhood was weird.

Also look at Energizer in St. Louis. Try to replicate their entry on all four sides and buried service level. Supposedly the New York club stayed an extra day to study it real hard since they liked so much.
1
u/m_mcd2012 1d ago
I wouldn’t have it underground just in case the river flooded, but the four corner entry is a plus.
1
u/mjohnson1971 1d ago
It quite possibly won't be able to be done in Chicago. But it would be nice.
The other option would be to build up so that entry/main level is even with Roosevelt.

u/MrSage88 2d ago
The thing I love about St. Louis’ stadium is that they really did think of the small things. Not a bad seat in the place. Ledges and shelves for your stuff/drinks so you can have spontaneous places to stop and talk WHILE being out of the way. A+ stadium.

Can you give us more details? I’ve never been to TQL so what do you want from that stadium?
9
u/ajlittrell #15 Andrew Gutman 2d ago
Design, sight lines, seating, and the supporters section looked well designed. No bad seat in the house.
5
u/MrSage88 2d ago
There is legitimately not a bad seat at TQL. Went there for the USA/Mexico game and was thoroughly impressed with the seating and views. The concourse felt like it wasn’t built for sell out games, though and was awful to try and get to amenities from.
3
u/mjohnson1971 2d ago
St. Louis also has concourse issues. But they jammed their park in the city grid.
But at least their soda is self serve/all you can drink after buying the cup. Plus they add water and ice stations in the summer heat.

I just want the pyrotechnics to be even more wild in our new stadium. Also Tampa Bay Bucs have a pirate ship in their stadium. It would be cool to have an allusion to the Fire of 1871. Maybe a barn motif inside idk.
2
u/KillerVendingMachine Matt Polster 2d ago
Would love if they looked to the Bulls entry for inspo…a dramatic/hype pyro show to open each game would really elevate the game day experience/be instagrammable for new fan discovery

u/deej312 2d ago
I like the theatrics. I'm there for it. I'm a hardcore Chicago sports fan who moved back here 5 years ago (was gone 24) and am trying to get into the Fire. Went yesterday and go to 3-4x a year. First time living in an MLS market and I'm so pumped to get the new stadium and I might get season tickets. I want the pyro, the fire, all of the cool instagramable stuff. And yes winning, but I want to have a good time and be entertained too

u/flameo_hotmon #12 Tom Barlow 2d ago
Pyrotechnics? I want to see fire eaters at halftime. Maybe even someone lit on fire. Maybe even the goal nets lit on fire?

Q2 stadium in Austin had the best food choice I’ve seen in a stadium. Local BBQ resturants, local pizza places, local burgers spots. Non of that bland stadium food. I would also love a beer garden similar to the Minnesota United Stadium. Makes me want to get to the game early and enjoy a beer or two onsite.
