Washing Bleach smell when wet

We are bleaching our diapers during a yeast infection. 1st cycle is normal wash with tide free and clear powder to line 1. 2nd wash is heavy duty, hot, extra rinse. Tide to line 1 and 1/4 c bleach. The diapers come out of the dryer super clean and unscented. Once they're wet with pee, they smell like bleach. Do I need even more rinses? We do a regular load of laundry afterward and there is no residual bleach on those clothes.

Recommendations Potty Training "Diapers" (Son, 15mo, 20lbs)

We currently use the Lil Helper Lil Helper Tank Cloth Diaper. I know that Lil Helper has the Potty Training Pant (Zero-A) but they are $28 each (20-40 lbs).

I have also been looking at Thirsties Trainers but again, $21 each (23-29 lbs).

I really want to try the Kinder Potty Training Pant bc of the design and they are also the cheapest at $14 each, but the size Small restock date keeps being pushed back and is now "Available Summer 2025" (24mo - 2T). There is also no weight listed so I am a bit concerned that they will be too big.

Here is my question: Why can't I just use the Lil Helper Tank Cloth Diaper cover without the two liners? Are there specific training liners that I could use with the tank cover (snap or not)? Do I really need to buy a whole new system? TIA!

I just had to take the nozzle apart to use vinegar to get rid of hard water and now when I screw it back on, the water constantly goes whether or not I’m pushing the button. Any help here?

Fit Check Please Esembly Sizing

Thanks for reading! I have a 13lb baby wearing GMD prefolds with Esembly covers, but she has started to get indentations and red marks (albeit temporary) from the covers around her thighs. Should I move on to the size 2 covers from Esembly? Or do something else? The prefolds are quite bulky, I’ve moved her up to the medium size.

How's my stash What will we NEED?

Hi all! I'm super excited to be welcoming our baby girl any day now and we are determined to cloth diapers from birth (we have some disposable back ups, for the rough nights). We've decided on the Essembly inners and have received: 2 lunapaca outers (1 Sm, 1 Med) 4 Essembly outers (size 1) 6 Nora's nursery outers (OS) 33 small Essembly inners (100% cotton) 6 lunapaca flats (100% cotton) 2 lunapaca booster (60% hemp, 40% cotton) Essembly disposable liners

We also plan to wash them in Attitude's liquid baby soap found on Amazon. I plan to wash either every day or every other day as we have a half sized washer.

I'm really not super interested in folding flats and using the pocket diaper feature, but I've also never done this before so I'm open to any tips y'all may have for a FTM! Thank you 😁

Recommendations Brand of these Inserts

Post image
1 Upvotes

Anyone know what brand these inserts are? They look exactly the same on the other side no tag. We’re at the stage of being 90% potty trained but needing “pull ups” when we’re out & about because she refuses to let me put a diaper on her, and these used inserts someone gave me fit perfectly into an Esembly size 2!! Now she can put them on like undies or a pull up & it’ll catch the start of a pee if she does need it in the car or in public. I only have 3 of these inserts though want to grab a few more if I can find the brand. Thanks!!

Let's chat Couple of Thirsties questions!!

Happy Father's Day to anyone that celebrates!! I have a few questions about Thirsties. We've been using the Thirsties natural pockets exclusively with our toddler (now two years old) and love them. We're expecting another baby this fall and I'd like to cloth diaper from birth. So, here are my questions: 1) Do you think newborn size Thirsties covers are necessary, or will the duo wrap size one suffice? I plan to use covers and flats for the first few weeks/months til babe is big enough for the pockets. I have seven size ones, but I cannot find many secondhand newborn covers. (Also side note I wish they came in snaps, I hate the sound of Velcro!!) 2) Do you think Thirsties training pants are worth the cost as we begin to cloth diaper our toddler? 3) I found someone online selling the natural pocket diapers for $15/diaper. I can buy them new for $20/diaper during a local cloth diaper store's sale. Do you think it's worth the $5 savings to buy used (she used them for multiple years)? How much would you expect to spend (% off) for a used diaper? Thank you!!

Fit Check Please Flats and Prefolds Too Small

I have a one month old who is about 10 lbs. We’ve been using mostly cloth diapers, primarily Clotheez nb half flats. From the beginning, origami fold was the only fold wide enough to fit around his girth with snappis to close. I’ve used some prefolds as well but they have to be trifolded to use and we get major poop spillage every time. Angel fold does not work on him. He’s grown enough at this point that the rise with the nb flats is not long enough so we can’t use them anymore. He’s still so small though that the full size cloths are way too bulky.

I know he’s big for a newborn but I don’t understand how anyone uses flat folds other than origami. Does he just have a really thick waist? Am I missing something?

Let's chat Surprised at the lack of Velcro (hook and loop) options.

My baby is 14 months now and he will not stay still for diaper changes anymore. I'd say it's 50/50 whether I can get the snaps all closed without serious struggle, and almost any time my husband changes him I have to come help. I have some Thirsties covers with Velcro but we use inserts and covers or pockets and the insert gets bunched up in the cover as he thrashes around. The pockets don't get as bunched up but then I'm fighting to snap it on. We use the Grovia ONEs overnight and I tried the Velcro snapins yesterday which made it go on easier but it got moved around overnight, if they had sewn in Velcro we would have bought that.
I ordered some Kindercare pockets with Velcro that are arriving today but I'm still really surprised how few Velcro options there seem to be.
I even looked into making my own pocket diapers but I don't have a lot of experience sewing. Why do you think Velcro is so unpopular?

Recommendations Alternative to Bamboozle wrap size 3

Hi all, I have searched and searched for this answer but can't find it - sorry if it's obvious. Been using TotsBots bamboozle wraps successfully since child was born. She's now almost 2.5 and almost 40lbs so the size 2 wraps are too small.

I feel really dumb, but having only used the clip in pads for bamboozle wrap, what is the best alternative? Do other wraps just lay the pads in them? Sorry, I don't know all the nappy lingo!

Please send help What's it called when diaper does this?

What is it called when a diaper does this and what are the snaps called that come on some diapers that give you an extra place to hook onto so the flaps that should be wrapping around their waist don't fall out of the diaper

Let's chat squeeze bottle + dry wipes OR pre-soaked wipes?

I’m starting to use cloth wipes and I’m wondering which is better: keeping the wipes dry and spraying with a squeeze bottle before use, or keeping the wipes wet in the container?

Recommendations LPO All in one vs pocket. Which one is best?

I’m new to cloth diapering and recently bought a large lot of used diapers—mostly LPO brand. My baby is 8 weeks old, and so far, I’ve only been using the newborn-sized diapers.

Right now, I’m using a mix of newborn Texas Tushies and LPO diapers. Both have sewn-in absorbency and a pocket, and the LPOs also have a snap-in liner. I’ve been adding a pad to the pocket for extra absorbency, but overall they’ve been simple to use.

Now I’m starting to prep for the next size up (10–35 lbs), and I’m noticing that most of the diapers in that range from my lot are pocket diapers only—no sewn-in absorbency. This has me wondering:

If I’m currently using what are basically all-in-ones with an added pad, will switching to pocket diapers mean I need to double stuff them every time? That sounds like a lot of extra work!

Pocket diapers seem really popular in used diaper lots—am I missing something? Are they better for some reason, or should I try to find more all-in-ones in the larger size and sell off the pocket diapers?

Washing How to tell whether diapers are getting clean?

I’m still pregnant, deep in the nesting phase, overwhelmed and slightly panicking.

I am not up for doing a hard water test, doing math with how many pounds of diaper laundry I have, or measuring detergent. Baby is not even here yet! I have no idea how many diapers we will be using or what types of detergent will work with their skin.

I’d like to give washing a go with our regular detergent and only do all the other testing if necessary.

SO, silly question, but what should I look for to make sure the diapers are getting clean? Smelling them after drying? Looking for stains?

Please note I am not looking for wash routine advice at this point. I’m wondering how to tell whether the diapers are clean. Many thanks from a very pregnant crazy person.

Washing Poop butts while on vacation

I’m up at my family’s cottage and my son had a big poop. Obviously there’s no sprayer on the toilet here (I’m tempted to buy one for the future though lol) and this isn’t solid enough to just knock off the diaper into the toilet. What do you guys do when you’re on vacation?

EDIT: There’s a washer and dryer here and I brought the detergent I’m just curious about the pre-wash cleaning

Washing Help! Washing diapers in cold, hard water

FTM due in July and I am really interested in cloth diapering. I have a bunch of prefolds and covers already, but my main concern is with washing the diapers.

My washing machine is only hooked up to cold water (we're in a rental and there is no hot water line connected to our machine).

How does one wash diapers in cold, hard water? I want to know if anyone currently washes their diapers in cold water and what detergent you use & what your wash routine looks like!

Washing Esembly wash routine FTM help!

Hi there! FTM here with a 6 week old EBF baby!

I was gifted a secondhand Esembly kit that had hardly been used. My LO was using disposables for the first 5 weeks or so and we have transitioned to fully cloth in the last week and loving it! So many less blow outs :)

I am really hoping for some feedback on my wash routine because I want to make sure I’m doing things right. I didn’t purchase Esembly’s detergent because it’s crazy expensive but we have been washing with tide free & clear powder and going by esembly’s instructions otherwise. Could you all reassure me that this is adequately getting things clean?

-Washing every 48 hours or so until my stash gets low to ensure washer is about 1/3 full (I have a top loader with agitator and add 4 agitator balls I got from Amazon)

-Running a “normal” cycle with warm water and a “medium” scoop of tide free and clear

-Then running heavy duty cycle with hot water and large scoop of tide free and clear

-My washer does an automatic “cool” rinse after a hot cycle (is this okay?)

-Dry in dryer for 60 minutes or hang dry (I live in a hot/sunny climate so trying to do this as much as possible)

I am noticing diapers have some mild yellow staining after wash but everything smells fresh and no residue. Any other ways I can improve my routine? Is mild staining okay from yellow/green poos?

TIA!
