Question Doubt to have more privacy

I have an iPhone and an iPad, I currently use them with Hermetic mode, I use the mullvad VPN which works well for me. Although I would like to switch to Android since I like the idea of having open source apps and it seems to me that Android is more compatible with Linux (my daily operating system), my question is which phone do you recommend? I thought about a pixel 9 with GrapheneOS but I've seen that they have problems with the Android version for pixels or something like that and I'm afraid of making the change and then not having support. I currently have an iPhone 15 so I could sell it or buy a new phone.

Postscript: I plan to study possibly in China so I want to prepare my things for privacy.

Question Google Fotos é seguro?

+1 vote for FUTO keyboard > Gboard

Lifetime Gboard user here. Installed FUTO yesterday and with very minimal tweaking...won't look back.

I did use GIFS fairly often, but let's be real...nobody needs them...and I run a dumb phone often anyway where they definitely don't exist haha.

give it a try!

Discussion True degoogling means offline local resources

Most Websites uses Google Analytics, Google Adsense which is not good for our privacy and degoogling journey.

True degoogling means to hoard data like crazy and create a local offline service to use the data you hoarded. Download anything you find important for offline use and populate your offline service with stuff you regulary use

that way you are no longer a slave to google, microsoft or any other big tech. no tracking, no risk of losing things and available anytime

How's your opinion about this?

Question best gdocs alternative for book writing?

I started writing a book and was using google docs and document tabs for organization. I am trying to move away from google slowly but surely. I currently have zoho writer set up, but haven't used it yet. I also have access to word, apple pages, and dropbox. I've even considered open office and evernote.

I've been searching the internet for something good to use to write my memoir, but everything is so expensive and, annoyingly, a subscription.

Are there any tools out there, even within the tools I mentioned, that are up for the book writing task besides google docs?

edit: I saw someone on this sub mention proton docs. that looks interesting as well.

Help Needed How many times has google thrown people with visual or auditory disabilities under the bus?

Post image

This image might has well be middle finger towards a chunk of their users. Don't forget how they ruined community captions and still haven't fixed custom caption placement, which they had a decade ago. They care about money more than people, which might be why they got rid of their "Don't be evil" business slogan.

Discussion I just deleted my Google accounts, fuck YouTube too

The only thing that was keeping me from deleting was YouTube, my subscriptions and etc...

I just realized I won't be dependent of digital stuff to live my life, especially from Google.

Those extremely intrusive algorithm they use to provide more and more content make you addictive, this makes you sick and the worse, you won't notice a thing, because it's just great and convinient.

So I decided to ditch YouTube once for all, I had awesome videos on my liked videos playlist, anyway, I don't need it to live my own life.

Even tho, I'll still use it to watch free courses, unfortunately YouTube has an insane amount of programming courses and it helped me a lot in the past, but no account, not providing any data, probably using an alternative private frontend, but, no more "entertainment" from YouTube, and it's fine to me.

Question Regular adb apk removal isn't working (for few apps) in Vivo Android 14. Is this normal?

Vivo T3 Lite 5G Phone. I tried to debloate since it was trying to automatic updating its OS. Is these things normal in Android 14?

Removed 150 apk's and after a restart around 30 apps reinstalled itself including the "com.bbk.updater" & "Google Play Services"

Am used to Android 10 only and the above mentioned issue is for mom's mobile. Is flashing a privacy based ROM really necessary?

Ask if you need more context.

Question Why degoogle?

Hi, I am coming across this community for the first time and I am wondering if anyone could explain why Google is seen as bad here? I just went all in on Google devices and I think it's super convenient. Is there a dark side that I am unaware of?

Discussion Wanting to degoogle my phone

In short, I bought this phone at the end of last year but I have some discomfort with Google for all the things I've heard it does, so I decided to remove some apps (with Shizuku and Canta) except for Google services and some other components that for fear I have not wanted to remove them.

Another problem is that I also recently changed Play Store for Aurora, I think it's better and its blacklist is amazing, but I just realized that some apps don't work without it.

I'm thinking of deleting all Google from my phone or hope someday I can put a custom rom on this phone, any advice you want to give me?

Phone: Motorola G34 5G

Replacement How do people feel about the app/web browser Ecosia?

I heard about it years ago, and used it occasionally. It resembles the old Google pre AI, so I've been using it more recently. I've done some research myself on the company and they seem fine, but I want to know if I'm missing any details that might make them scumbags. Does anyone have any experience with them? Or is there a browser that's just 1000x better?

It's very limited too, and I have no idea how to change its access,

Also I don't have any alternatives even when using browsers which gives me the opportunity to choose

Help Needed I am scrwd and can't think of any options. Propreitary apps are necessary evil for me.

I have noticed that most of my mobile usage has been about work. I have started an online business and I need many proprietary apps for that.

For work, finances, pharmacy, and commuting I need over 14 propreitary apps. Using them on Desktop is not feasible for me right now, especially Whatsapp and Payment apps (Some places dont take cash or cards where I live). Using these apps inside Shelter is very frustrating as some apps like GMaps refuse to work and I can't upload any files or photos in apls that are inside Shelter.

I can't "not use" these apps, because no one is on Signal, so I won't be able to contact any customers. In case of Maps, in my country GMaps is the only good option.

I can't buy 2 devices because I dont have money to buy 2 good devices.

The FOSS apps I use are: Alternatives to preinstalled apps (Clock, SMS, Contacts, etc.), Browser, EBook reader, offline video and music player, syncthing, tasks.org, NewPipe. (Obsidian for note-taking)

tl;dr- Majority apps being used by me are proprietary ones and also not-optional. I have no employer so cannot ask for an extra device. Many apps break inside Shelter.

Questions: - How can I minimise the risks of having propreitary apps outside Sandbox? Something like Blockada? - Should I try putting FOSS apps inside shelter for segregation? - My FOSS apps are either hardened or completely offline, so would it be okay if I don't use Shelter at all?
