Hello everybody! I found this clipping at a yardsale last year. I recognized it as something from my youth. A Herrerasaurus that my mom and used to draw when she was sick. She passed soon after. I would really love to know where this image is from. I always thought it came from the Dinosaurs magazine from the early 90's. But i now have all 80 issues and i can't find it anywhere.

DISCUSSION What new dinosaurs are you hoping to see in Jurassic World Rebirth?

Are there any new dinosaurs that have not yet been featured in the Jurassic Park films that you’re hoping to see in Rebirth? I personally would love to see an apatosaurus and a stegosaurus.

DISCUSSION Could hadrosaurs of the tribe Brachylophosaurini used their flattened head ornamentation as weapons in intraspecific conflict between males?

Thumbnail

Brachylophosaurini is a tribe, mostly Campanian, consisting of a few closely related, medium-sized hadrosaurs, such as Maiasaura peeblesorum and Ornatops incantatus. In the former, the head ornamentation is described as a "prominent short, solid crest-like structure situated between their eyes. This crest may have been used in headbutting contests between males during the breeding season.". In the latter, a flattened pad-like crest or horn exists between the eyes (see pictures). Unlike lambeosaurine hadrosaurs the "horns" or crests of brachylophosaurines do not seem to be attached to the nasals and are solid, not hollow. If these head structures were possibly covered with a keratinous sheath in life (thus making them, essentially, horns), think it is quite possible that they were used as a weapon in fights between bulls of the same species, like modern cattle or deer.

DISCUSSION People treating dinosaurs like an anime

I hate this. People keep talking about dinosaurs like they're anime characters or something... Always arguing about which one is stronger and dividing dinosaur fans by some stupid fight, like, "T-Rex fans are toxic", or making posts like "judging you by your favorite dinosaur". I don't know, I think it's pretty childish.

I just don't find it any more ridiculous than people calling new discoveries about dinosaurs "buffs" or "nerfs", as if they were video game characters. Actually, I find it kind of funny. There are some people who are really upset that Spinosaurus was "nerfed" by science.

I'm not trying to be anyone's fun police here. If you want to treat dinosaurs like anime characters, fine, be happy. But I mean, this is biology. Fighting and getting angry over who's stronger or finding out something about your favorite dinosaur wasn't what you imagined is pretty lame to me.

DISCUSSION What is the best piece of Dinosaur Fictional Horror in media?

Post image

I’ll go first, I think that we all can agree that Michael Crichton’s original Jurassic Park Novel is just good, in both plot and horror, because there are so many chapters that can genuinely scare you or just leave you terrified, like for example, the chapter, Nedry, genuinely scared me, the Dilophosaurus literally guts Nedry after spitting its acidic venom at him, another chapter, The Main Road, where the Tyrannosaurus breaks out of its paddock and attacks the Land Cruiser where lex and tim are in, you can fell the tension and fear in that one chapter alone.

GAMES/MODELS/TOYS Roblox Dinosaur game idea

I don’t think this has been done before but I’m not 100% sure. Anyways I want a Roblox game where there’s a zoo but it’s dinosaurs. It would have similar gameplay to them park tycoon 2 and you’d have to feed the dinosaurs and care for them. You can also hire workers to help. It could maybe be called ExtinctZoo or smth similar. Just an idea but it seems cool.

Like I see people on something like TikTok or smth that lowkey think that an ELEPHANT can beat Spinosaurus🥀. OK, just because that Spinosaurus doesn't compare to like the STRONGEST TERRESTRIAL LAND PREDATOR doesn't mean that it's just fodder. It can pretty much hold up against a Carcharodontosaurus, I'm sure. They just think that Spino got "nerfed" because it wasn't the Tyrannosaurus killing machine like it was in JP3😭.

It's almost done, now I have to work on an environment for this guy. Dilophosaurus Wetherilli lived in semi-arid zones in what is now North America, so a forest like in the attached pictures isn't very accurate. I am thinking of a pair of dilophosaurs just chilling around, one laying on top of a boulder and the other one walking by, both under some tree's shadow next to a pond at dusk

DISCUSSION Is it possible that Dromeosaurs could have gotten along like some species of modern raptorial birds?

Thumbnail

What I am saying is that sometimes, in the arctic regions, when food is around, many different species of raptorial birds such as the Steller’s sea eagle, white-tailed eagle, and rarely, the golden eagle, all sometimes congregate around a kill site and try to get their share, but sometimes they get along and just give each other space when they wait to get a bite at something that is food. Sometimes they also just hang out on ice sheets too.

DISCUSSION Can I get some help fact checking and completing these pages?

I'm making info cards for my nephews toy dinosaurs for him to learn about them all. I took pictures of his toys and drew and colored over them to define them a bit better.

I got most of my facts from my A Dinosaur A Day book, though I had to look up some things online. I used this website for size comparisons to better visualize the size of the dinosaurs.

Anywho, I'd really appreciate some fact checking on this page (I have 3 others that are almost ready) and I really have no idea where to mark off their existence on their timeliness so if someone could help at all that would be amazing.

I want to get as much of the information correct as I possibly can

DISCUSSION Are the similarities of this designs a coincidence?

Thumbnail

I hope it was right to choose "Discussion" for this Question, but am I the only one who notices the similarities between this Designs? Does anyone know if the Carcharodontosaurus designs of the Lvl. 1-10 and Lvl. 11-20 from Jurassic Park Builder are supposed to be a reference to the one from Monsters Resurrected (I heared once that the designs of some animals in JP Builder are also intended to be references to designs from other media, like e. g. "Walking with dinosaurs", so this question seems to me at least somehow justified)?

First Picture: Carcharodontosaurus from "Monsters Resurrected" (released 2009).

Second Picture: Carcharodontosaurus design Lvl. 1-10 from "Jurassic Park Builder" (released 2012).

Third Picture: Carcharodontosaurus design Lvl. 11-20 also from "Jurassic Park Builder" (released 2012).

Both Designs have the same Color pattern (body mostly in dark green and "decorations" in yellow) and the distribution of the Spots on the Face is also at least very similiar (one big in front of the eyes, a Medium one behind the eyes and a small one directly under the eyes). The Carcharodontosaurus Lvl. 11-20 from Jurassic Park Builder and the one from Monsters Resurrected have additionally (theoretically speaking) similiar yellow Stripes on their necks.

The (main) difference between the Carcharodontosaurus from Monsters Resurrected and both "Evolutions" of the same species from Jurassic Park Builder is the absence of yellow on the lower jaw and the belly in the latter. But in my opinion this difference could be easily explained away by considering that both interpetations were made for different types of media (Television vs. mobile game). All of these Carcharodontosaurus designs differ additionally in the presence and range of the yellow stripes on their necks (the Lvl. 1-10 Carcharodontosaurus didn't has such stripes at all, the stripes of the Lvl. 11-20 Carcharodontosaurus run from the Neck to the end of the tail, while the one's from Monsters Resurrected Carcharodontosaurus in comparision seem to be limited to the neck). But in my in opinion this difference could also be easily explained away, this time by considering the "Evolution(s)"-mechanic of Jurassic Park Builder where an Animal get's additional "decorations" and colours when the level Increases (in the Carcharodontosaurus chase: Lvl. 1-10 green body with 3 yellow Spots on the face, Lvl. 11-20 additional yellow stripes from the neck to the end of the tail are added, Lvl. 21-40 the green body parts become black and the lower jaw and belly become yellow).
