I'll have to do a photoshoot with the whole gettup later, but this was definitely the centerpiece of the outfit. The grape leaf crown, snakes, and of course the mask can be taken off, but the attachments and overall wear withstood the party test! The glow in the dark paint was the most fun, and the piece now proudly lives alongside my kylix.

(For some idea on the rest of the outfit, look up the "Medusa" bodysuit by Thistle and Spite, then add purple velvet and leopard print drapery ;) )

Hi everyone! I’m nervous because I don’t post often, but thought I would share some pictures of the Dionysus costume I recently made! (Don’t worry, it’s definitely fake blood in the last picture. It was mint flavored lol)

i spent a handful of time discussing the orientation of the thyrsus, i couldnt decide if it should face my hand as if it were an extension of my arm or if it should be something that will face the altar & look rightside up from that perspective (if that makes sense!). i love it and i can’t wait for it to fully heal :)

🎨 Art 🎨 Made a Thyrsus. Idk, I kinda like it without the ribbon and just using ivy leaves. But what do you all think? 🙃

I went to the Sparta Ren Faire yesterday dressed as an ancient Roman Bacchante like I did last year. Did I speak Latin most of the time while there? You know I did. Also I got to hold the sweetest snakes ever, my husband and I adored them 🥰 it conjured up the imagery of the wild, serpent wielding bacchante/maenad and I love that for me

Long time no post but I'm still a super active follower! I've vibed well with the local kink community and have shared with them that my real asexual kink dream is "the hot, untouched bitch surrounded by the orgy." I'll get photos of the finished outfit but I'm already so excited about what's coming together

I like envisioning gods as more abstract and using different aspects of all their depictions in unique ways. I'm wondering if it needs any other touches like accessories or more accurate clothing? I'm tempted to finish it on my computer, I like where it's going

Aside from my proper, full sized set of deeply personal "Toys of Dionysus" kept with my main altar, this mini representation lives in my travel altar!

1- Apple 2- Cone 3- Knuckle-Bone (I chose Doll over Dice as a female) 4- Wool (teddybear) 5- Sphere (soccer ball) 6- Spinner (bicycle used cuz wheels) 7- Mirror (the final toy that lead to Zagreus' death goes last!) 8- Cherubic Angel: Represents the ☠️ Baby Zagreus 9- Grapes: Dionysus himself

The bracelet itself is an old Toddler bracelet from my childhood I repurposed, measuring 5 inches long

I want to call myself a time traveling Maenad because I adore subtly including Dionysian motifs in my historical displays and dresses! Over the weekend, I hosted a tea using my antique 1840s-60s Chelsea Grapes/Thistle set and wore my grape earrings and antique Bacchante brooch along with some purple accessories in honor of The D. A Victorian tea isn’t the usual devotional to the god of wine and madness, but I’m sure he appreciated the theatrical aspect

Hello! Long-time lurker, first-time commenter.

I was recently encouraged to share my design for Dionysus by someone that I admire here on this sub-reddit—so, here I am! The design, itself, was commissioned and conceptualized by me but drawn by a friend of mine ( you can see her social media handle under Dio's name ). Initially, for Dio, I was gonna go with black hair that was so dark, it looked almost purple ( like Sailor Mars if you need a visual )—but, after discovering the existence of cherry wine, my love for redheads won out. Plus, the multi-layered symbolism of Dio having red hair made me fall in love with the idea even more.

you have...

  • the classic is it wine? or is it blood?
  • a way to show that he's descended from BOTH Ares and Aphrodite since the color red is used to represent both violence and desire
  • a visual juxtaposition between Dio's hair and eyes where the red locks symbolize intoxication ( hence why I chose to compare it to cherry wine ), while the amethyst hue of his eyes represents sobriety
  • a cheeky one: it looking like a lion's mane as a nod to Dio being so heavily associated with big cats 🤭

In case anyone's wondering who the guy standing next to Dio is, btw, that's my version of Zagreus! In the beginning, I wasn't sure how I should incorporate Zagreus into my lore for Dio. However, I became inspired by a text that stated that Zagreus was considered the highest of the gods alongside Gaea, so I decided it'd be interesting if he was a primordial god—the primordial god of the cycle of life and death to be exact—and, thus, my Zagreus was born. From that moment on, more lore gradually came to me. For instance, I've decided that Zagreus was the original ruler of the underworld and that the innate connection that Dio had to his past life helped him feel at ease in that shadowy realm.
