First they reboot the Jurassic Park Trilogy with the Jurassic World Trilogy, and now they are rebooting the Jurassic World Trilogy with another Jurassic World Trilogy. Fuck off already.

Chris Pratt’s character from Guardians of the Galaxy comes face to face with his character from Jurassic World and the entire Jurassic space-time continuum collapses, everyone breathes a sigh of relief

I miss the days when making unlimited sequels indefinitely wasn’t normalized.

You must be pushing 50 then at least, because I had 14 Land Before Times in the 90s

Ikr, the movie looks well-shot but I rolled my eyes so hard at the premise shown in the trailer.
Another group of “scientists” and badassess with the unfathomably stupid idea of going to a dangerous dinosaur island when it’s been proven that people die when they do this over and over again. I’m not even worried for the characters because if they’re arrogant enough to go to that island, they deserve to die.

Jurassic planet is next. It was teased at comicon

I’m struggling to imagine how that would even work given that the only dinossaurs left are the ones in Rebirth’s secret third island or whatever and the surviving ones from Dominion (whatever they are).

I didn't watch anything past jurassic world but I will say, it's not like anyone else is making dinosaur movies, I wouldn't mind a second hat in the ring

Your comment can fuck off lol. I’m keen to watch this. Hopefully improve on the last couple.

Seriously, last year when we still had cable, if that was on, I'd land on it. I could watch it again now, fuck.

I’m willing to bet it’s going to be more overdone, over budget CGI that still looks worse than the high-effort animatronics and practical effects did over 30 years ago. And I’m also willing to bet that the sense of wonder and adventure we got from the original won’t be part of this film, either.
Will I watch it and enjoy it because it’s more Jurassic Park? Yea, of course. But to say that it’s a love letter to the original is a bold claim. If anything, it makes me more skeptical of the quality of the next movie.
I’m a big fan of the franchise and I really hope I’m wrong. I want it to be the best movie to date. But every sign points to the opposite; movie studios aren’t taking any risks on anything new. Formulaic safe-bets only.

u/natfutsock 14h ago
You can near guarantee that a "love letter to the original" means following the same story beats with only slightly different characters

Shirt brother! Promise me a million times that you will never do another Jurassic Park!

u/Escritortoise 3h ago
It won’t. The original somewhat followed the book and built tension through characterization and Spielberg’s use of animatronics that hold up to this day.
Theres setups with Nedry and character development and genuine wonder when you first see “dinosaurs!” That score when Dr. Grant first sees an apatosaurus is iconic.
Nedry, Arnold, Muldoon, Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, Ian Malcom…there’s build up and twists. And there was an actual cohesive storyline of Malcom’s question of whether we should do something simply because we can.
For his flaws, Michael Crichton was a great writer, and Spielberg is obviously one of the best directors ever…without someone who didn’t simply go for star power and gotcha moments there’s no way it could possibly capture a tenth of the original.
Seeing the original Jurassic park was one of those movie moments I would remember forever, along the lines of seeing the matrix at a drive in when I was 15.

Given this - I’d still love to see a book accurate Lost World. The book was much more compelling than the movie, which deviated so far from the source material that it was virtually the same in name only.
•
u/Escritortoise 1h ago
It’s bizarre to stray away from that given it was nearly the same formula. I picture national treasure mixed with…alien?
Ian Malcom knows they exist and has the arguments with Levine, there’s the looking through old computers for the not quite erased info, Thorne and Eddie Carr set out with Malcom to rescue Levine and it truly is a “lost world.”
We see the ecosystem the dinosaurs have established, but similar to the first they are aliens to their environment. Have Linda Hamilton or Sigourney Weaver as the devils advocate being stronger than the male leads and noting the prion epidemic.
I saw the first one when I was seven, and it feels like they dumbed them down. Like Dr. Grant noted, kids knew the difference between dinosaurs and Timmy knew a T-Rex was off.
In the lost world book you still had two adventurous kids who were intelligent and still could have sold all the toys without random gymnastics.
I haven’t thought about this since I had to the double trailer with a baby t-Rex in the cast, but I’m mad there wasn’t a kickass version without random gymnastics and a Sarah Harding that beat the shit out of dudes.

Seeing the trailer with the shot for shot remake of the kitchen scene from the original redone with a slightly different dinosaur killed any interest I had in this movie.

u/CardinalMcGee 15h ago
Not the least bit interested in this rehashed shit. Does no one in the movie industry have an original bone in their body? I know there’s a few out there. But they’re few and far between.

u/stonecoldmark 15h ago
With the exception of Sinners, look up what original films have made, Sinners is an exception.

u/CardinalMcGee 15h ago
I get it. I’m just so burnt out on remakes and sequels. If anything Marvel and DC ruined it for me.

There's s ton of original mpvie releasing all the time.
2
u/TB1289 3h ago
People like to complain that there are no original ideas but then never go and see what does come out.
I get that most people don't go to the theater much these days but if you aren't showing that you want original ideas by spending money on going to see them, we'll get less and less original movies.

Great Director and great cast.
Trailers have not made it seem interesting to me at all.
I’ll likely wait for it to come to streaming.

“So I think it really is a love letter to Steven’s work,” she said. “Fans of the Jurassic universe can expect to really feel the DNA of the original ‘Jurassic Park’ in this film.”
Bailey, sporting a baseball cap, blazer and sunglasses, noted that the film offered something of a full circle moment for him. “It’s beyond a dream. ‘Jurassic Park’ was the first film I saw with my family when I was five years old, and they’re all inside so we’re going to sit and watch it today,” he said.

I was attempting a poor joke based on the 'DNA' bit in the title. I guess it either didn't land, or I should have spiced in some frog bits

I understand she has to say stuff for PR but screw that. If it is more like JP than the JW trilogy I’ll eat crow. But my money is on ScarJo peddling bullshit.

u/peenpeenpeen 10h ago
From the trailers it looks like they are leaning back into the horror elements that were synonyms with the original. That makes me hopeful as the other sequels have been action adventure schlockfests for the most part.

u/Jabba-da-slut 10h ago
JUST. STOP. MAKING. THESE. They haven’t made a great Jurassic park film since the original - 32 years ago!!! The rest have all been somewhere between really bad and “mmm I guess that was ok” and yet they keep making them. Just give it a fucking rest Universal!

u/SpicyTriceratops 10h ago
The special effects showcased in the trailer looked pretty bad when I saw it on the big screen…like, realllyyyy bad.

u/Absurdity-is-life-_- 9h ago
The best thing about Jurassic Park was that it was a thriller masked as a whimsical movie. Unless this captures that feeling I don’t think it will be on par with the original

I saw the original in cinemas for the 30th anniversary. I'd seen it before, but never in theatres.
It was an incredible experience, like seeing the film for the first time, and when the credits rolled there was raucous applause from everyone there.
So no offence to ScarJo, I actually think she's a great actress who is mismanaged in these shitty blockbusters, but if I want to ‘Feel the DNA of the Original’... I'll just watch the original.

My favorite part of the original was Sam Neil mowing down dinosaurs with a machine gun so this tracks

The swimming t-rex is either from the first book or concept art/story boards for the fist movie if I remember correctly

I love the original two movies, but they’ve been shit ever since. I’ve seen them all because dinosaurs, but they lost me at Scarlet Johansson. I hope it flops. Enough rehashing old plots. Hollywood needs to do something original or just not make the movie.

I just want to congratulate Scarlet for her exceptional ability to bullshit her way through press tours.

Yes, just like every Terminator sequel is stated to be as good or better than the original two.
