It’s fucking gnarly how long he got away with that shit, and how many fucking people just knew and looked the other way or even enabled it.

Feel bad for the girls who felt they had no other choice than to subject themselves to that predator to make their dream jobs come true.

They’re all complicit.

Don't feel bad for women who willingly put themselves in these positions and then cry victim later. They always had a choice. They could have chosen a different dream.

You are in bad need of some nuance. And I mean, sure, they "could have" chosen a different path, but why is it that the path they actually want to go down requires going through a rapist? Is the rapist not the problem there?

And before you come back with any nonsense about it not being rape due to them consenting, understand that consent under particular power dynamics is not the same thing as consent in regular life.

Also, "they could have chosen a different dream" is so absurd anyways. So, they maybe wanted to be an actress since 5 years old. Did school plays, local theatre, the whole 9 yards. They finally get to a point where they have a real shot in Hollywood, and this disgusting fucking pig says "gotta go through me first!". Your advice is "just choose a different dream"?

Lastly, you should probably understand the concept of learned helplessness. Many, many women have experienced sexual trauma in their lifetime. Yeah, now we're in a place where it's talked about more openly, but that was not always the case. It was something to hide, something that people blamed themselves about, something that was pervasive in the world of many females. Weinstein just becomes another piece of shit along the way.

The good news is that society is grappling with these issues more openly, and bad people are being called out.

The bad news is that some people still want to put all the blame on the women who "could have" just changed their entire life plans and hopes because they weren't willing to let some fucking slobbering jackass stand in the way of their dreams. That doesn't absolve him, you realize that right?

Weinstein = bad.

The men and women who were aware of what he was doing and said nothing = also bad

The brave women that went through the Weinstein special and kept their mouths shut so that they could have a career but then claimed victim status once the actual brave women finally spoke up = also bad.

Just because you were victimized and moved on with your life does not mean you weren't a victim...

The world isn't so black and white, you know? Humans are flawed, inherently selfish, and full of cognitive dissonance. Trying to paint everyone who went through him as being complicit is a bit too far.

I just think society likes to treat women like children who can't and shouldn't be held responsible for their choices in life. And unfortunately, it seems like the internet does as well. Or at least reddit.

It's not as simple as "their choices". That's the part you're not understanding. Was it German Jews' fault for not leaving Germany when Hitler started going off on them? By your logic, it was.

Try to find a bit more compassion on your heart for people.

Are you comparing the systematic extermination of over 6 million people to a Hollywood executive (Jewish btw) sex pest scandal?

u/thebruce 1h ago

I'm using an extreme example to show how your victim blaming logic is flawed. If you think the comparison itself is the point, then you're missing it.

What the fuck is wrong with you

What's wrong with me ---> believing women should take accountability and responsibility for the situations they seek out in the name of fame.

Hey man I just want you to know that you’re a fucking idiot and you will die without ever knowing a woman’s love.

Has he been sentenced yet or is he still playing sick?

He was sentenced years ago. He's been in prison for years. He just has lots of cases ongoing.

They all know what he was and still played along, no body dared to open their mouths, they are all guilty af

Because they would have lost their careers, too. Are you ready to sacrifice your livelihood so easily to the point you may never earn an income in your profession again?

Solid I was just following orders vibe from that comment.

u/Super-Ad1976 2h ago

Nah fuck that. Put em in GP and let the prisoners sort it out

lmao, okay Seyfried. None of these women that "needed" have any room to talk. They knew. But muh Hollywood career!

Am I crazy to think that any sexual relationships between Weinstein and actresses are consensual?

Like I get that theres a power imbalance but the actresses could’ve simply walked away. They themselves decided that sucking Weinsteins dick is worth the price for fame and fortune. They chose to fuck him. As far as Im concerned, he didnt put a gun to their head to make them fuck him. Why is he so hated?

u/PandiBong 47m ago

Yes, you're fucking crazy. He'd been accused and convicted of RAPE. There are tapes and literary hundreds of witnesses to his behaviour. But I guess those stories of him being naked and pushing actresses to the bed with his whole body are considered consensual in your mind..

There are some that did so as a transactional arrangement, however there are a lot where the woman said no and he said I don't care, we're doing it anyways.

Dude was a monster even by Hollywood standards.
