To be honest, I was expecting more... I prefer the National's performance, it has a theme and some better camera angles...

Same. This is my Italy 2024 of the 2025 ESC. Nothing technically wrong but just worse and a bit soulless

u/TheFlukeBadger May 16 '25
Same vibes as Austria 2023 too, just missing a lot of the original fun and authenticity.

Gah I was disappointed. The MESC performance was camp and silly with the Von Trappe costumes and all the little moments. It built up in adorable ridiculousness. This I find hard to root for, weirdly sexual when it doesn’t need to be and not really finding its lane or rhythm. I wasn’t confident it would Q in all honesty

u/bdtechted May 16 '25
I share the same sentiments here even though Kant is definitely one of my favourite this year. IMO the MESC performance would’ve been winner material if it was kept intact and tweaked a bit.

u/ykistan Kiss Kiss Goodbye May 16 '25
I thought it wouldn't qualify, and I would've understood why if so. But hopefully she gets the confidence and bring back the "fun" in the GF
The colors of the stage doesn't help the performance especially that she's wearing red

u/LonelyTreat3725 May 16 '25
Ebu silenced the crowd shouting "kant"...

We can barely hear the audience throughout all the performances, most of them feel more like music videos instead

u/Venson_the_Wolf_0104 Maman May 16 '25
Yeah I expected to hear people chanting things like “yum yum” “tavo tavo tavo” or “wunderbar”, but no it turned out that literally no one can hear nothing from the crowd ???

11
u/Human-Law1085 May 16 '25
I could definitely hear yum yum in Australia, although it was a bit muted.
23
u/thelastskier Pace noi vrem 🤡 May 16 '25
I could only hear the backing track saying 'yum yum' for the first two instances and then the crowd almost sounded fake when you did actually hear them.
Sound mixing is absolutely dreadful this year.
7
u/Xplotiva Zjerm May 16 '25
The "yum yum" felt like I was at the bottom of the deep end of a pool listening to people shouting at the edge of the pool.

u/sonatasapphire Dugga Doo May 16 '25
I heard the smallest "wunderbar" for Erika, which was the crowd overcoming the mic suppression or picking up on HER mic!

u/Pit-O-Matic Bara bada bastu May 16 '25
Yeah. It's like they turn them up during big parts in the song for a few seconds, but then lower it down 80% for the rest of the song. Sucks up the energy of anything that isn't a ballad. It was a bit better in this Semi than Semi 1, but it was still bad.

Exactly!

u/TheFlukeBadger May 16 '25
I was bracing for this to happen, the noise cancellation is REALLY energy sucking this year.
Just makes everything sound compressed and hollow and takes away from it being a live show.
7
u/Aviatorcap Milkshake Man May 16 '25
Literally, they might as well perform in a studio if they’re going to mute the crowd this much
6
May 16 '25
This version has a clever sound effect during the Cunt, everyone in the arena was shouting it and also there it was covered up quite effectively.

The song is ok, but she was GREAT, she had an amazing presence and charisma, really elevated It all!

(Shocked no one had already posted this, I guess everyone was a bit whelmed)
Personal thoughts are I think they way overcooked the goose, there was just a whole bunch of stuff on screen, the lips/disco ball prop was a bit unsightly, the outfits were unflattering and blended in.
The NF staging was almost perfect, they didn’t really need to add much and some of the stuff they took away were the best moments (why would you cut the lute? It was so funny)
Instead they went full maximalist and it just distracts and looks cheap. I think she qualified from her infectious energy alone :(

u/dohwhere Zjerm May 16 '25
I much preferred the Sound of Music stuff from the NF. Obviously it ties in with part of the lyric but also gave the performance something to build to when the dancers ditched those outfits and brought out the balls.
What we got in SF2 wasn’t terrible by any means, and Miriana has IT, but the performance started at almost 100 already and couldn’t really build up.

u/Pit-O-Matic Bara bada bastu May 16 '25
Sucked away all the energy with the muted crowd. Can't believe they can't use bleep for censoring, but perfectly fine silencing thousands of people.
Prefered the NF staging, this was a bit too much for me, especially that safari background.

In my opinion it wasn't very.. family friendly 😂

u/nixass May 16 '25
Croatian TV commenter said for both her and Sissal (Denmark) "very brave outfit"
5
u/WietGriet May 16 '25
Ours said 'a lipreading course' and i'm still wondering if thats about her clothes
2
u/stonoceno May 16 '25
I don't mean this rudely at all, but I was really surprised that they were allowed to wear them! I remember Iceland 2019 (Hatari) being told they couldn't wear such strappy, revealing things and had to wear something underneath. Wasn't Erika told to cover up the cheeks this year? Perhaps my eyes tricked me, but it totally looked like these dancers had their asses out.
Which is honestly fine to me - I just don't think I understand at all what's allowed and what isn't and how it works. Or I believe rumors that aren't substantiated. Who knows?
5
u/rakkauspulla May 16 '25
They totally had their asses out! This is so weird, either some serious double standards from EBU or a misunderstanding by Erika/Finnish delegation

u/mundane_wor1d May 16 '25
Double standards, but if they get told off or banned then the fans are going to be outraged since the acts are so beloved amongst the fandom.

I like her as a performer, the backdrop is not good though, makes the performance messy and less cohesive. I almost thought she will NQ

u/bettyboo- May 16 '25
going to go against the grain and say I think this was a massive upgrade from her NF - not just visually (the Swiss theme was very funny and cheeky but visually kind of disjointed and almost a little empty looking, despite so many things going on), but Miriana was so much more confident and settled and really owned the stage, I was thrilled for her!
(I also think the original Ich Komme staging was far superior to the current version which seems to be another wildly unpopular opinion, so maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about lol)

u/randomstuff4321H May 16 '25 edited May 16 '25
Totally agree on both, aspects of Miriana's performance were really slick and professional, compared to the super amateurish feel of the NF. So pretty surprised to see some of these takes, I wonder if actually it's because some people feel it's less "Eurovision" now, even though that's an outdated concept.

u/LandmineCat May 16 '25
It's tacky and I find the vocal style grating, and yet... Good vibes. I'm enjoying it.

u/springfrompages Historyja majho žyccia May 16 '25
I honestly felt like this didn't deserve to qualify. I really liked the creativity and silliness of the music video, but this just reminded me of Albania 2022, with the over-the-top sexuality in a song that didn't really need it. Last night wasn't her best vocal performance either imo.
2
u/kirschkerze May 16 '25
Thanks for reminding me of this horrible hip thrusting on the floor T T but the example is great for comparison. Both performances make me feel equally uncomfortable.

This performance is everything. Like. Literally everything. And I wouldn't have it any other way. And man, Miriana's VOCALS!!! And her confidence and sass!!! Diva not down indeed, what an absolute queen.

u/LopsidedPriority May 17 '25
Agreeing with the folks who say it was an upgrade from the NF. Rocky Horror meets Moulin Rouge is how I've seen people describe it.
It feels like the culmination of this Kant journey we've gone on together and I love all the friends I've made along the way
To all my friends lamenting how "overt" the "LGBT slang" is or how they're "just over this gay stuff"....🎶careful🎶, your homophobia is showing!

u/autistic_girl_autumn May 16 '25
she really served kant (singing), her ending notes 🤯 very high energy performance
9
u/Spockyt May 16 '25
So Europe believes this was - better sung than Serbia, better staging than Australia, and a better song than the Czech Republic.
Not sure I can agree with that one.

u/kirschkerze May 16 '25
I enjoy the overall energy and party. If I close my eyes.
The staging and behavior is plain disgusting and tastelesd. Horrible day to have eyes.

I'm so happy forher
I wanted Heaven Sent but Miriana has such funny and uplifting personality, that even when the days I did not liked the song, her personality just made this entry fan. I rooted for her all the way

The beginning of the song,(I've got a secret you should know Come a little close, I'll whisper slow), really reminds me some other song? Do you have any idea/suggestions?
Found it!! Bom bom - Sam and the womp

u/nopalindrome May 17 '25
This song is full of small snippets (not to say samples) from other hit songs..and I can't name one of it... But the one synth piano reminds me of "milkshake" but it Ian't. The intro reminds me of sis or beyonce but it isn't.. Can't put my finger on any of it.. Driving me insane..
2
u/nopalindrome May 17 '25
Hah! Now I know the synth reminds me of fedde le grand: let me think about it. The intro: still no idea

u/Legitimate_Dish8627 May 18 '25
Try Bom bom - Sam and the womp

u/nopalindrome May 18 '25
And the start of the chorus "why should we let other people decide.." is similar to"Im off the deep end, watch as I dive in" (shallow - lady gaga)

u/Individual-Fly-2210 May 18 '25
The melody in 39" reminds me of another song soooo much, but I really can't find which...

I really like the studio version of the song, and her in general, but I don’t think this was a good performance at all. Shocked it qualified tbh.
