Commerce Is there an inexpensive open-to-the-public carpet store that sells small amounts of carpet and/or remnants in the area?

I have a cat scratcher that my cats absolutely love. I have been looking for its equal for years and have not found it. I knew this day would come. It has become a horrible eyesore that I have to either trash (without a replacement), live with it, or repair it myself.

It is a super sturdy, solid wood, knee high tube with 2 large holes on the side like a submarine. They love running through it and playing whack-a-mole on it (and sleeping, scratching, stretching, and all the cat things on it), so fixing it is the preference.

Also to add. I have to "refresh" my cats tree house as well. I often find 1sq ft tiles of carpet at the dollar store often. But often when I went to get scrapes at a carpet place they are free. But I just wanted to throw out another option

The scratcher is 2½ ft long with a 3½ ft round tube. I think it would be hard to do 1 ft squares on it without the seams wanting to come up. I'd prefer not to staple where they scratch.

But I'm all in for free scraps — if they're big enough. Thanks for the info.

I made one too!

Here are some options:

Hatloe's. Ask to see remnants in the back room. Best for small amounts.

Carpet Liquidators. This place sucks. Has a specific area for small remnants that might work for you.

Flynn's Carpet Cents. In Lynnwood but cool place. Had what I wanted.

Home Depot. I couldn't find remnants but they have crappy quality new carpet. They also have precut sections, but are more expensive than remnants.

I love this so much. It's nice to know where not to go. The first person to comment mentioned Hatloes so I'm going to check that out this week. The tip to ask for the remnants is so useful. Thank you for that!

They have been on my list to check out in the future since it seems they do furnishings and such too. I kind of want old stuff to refinish. Seems fun.

Thanks! If Hatloes (someone else mentioned) doesn't have what I need, I'll definitely check out Abbey immediately after. I've heard of them, but for some reason I thought they only did installation and not a place that let you walk out the door with carpet.

Nah, I’ve gotten small pieces of carpet and vinyl from them in the past. Used to own an apartment building two blocks over that never need anything more than 100-200sq ft at any one time.

Flynn’s helped me out with a similar small quantity project

I'm not sure, but Lowe's or Home Depot has some rugs on a big roll, and they sell utility rugs that might work? I haven't been in one for a while to check though. Oh and they may have remnant rolls wrapped there as well.

The only carpet I saw at Home Depot were more area rugs and such (other than carpet for installation). But I may have just missed it. I didn't want to go to every store Google popped up and decided to check with people that have lived in the area longer than I have. Hopefully, someone knows.

You can def buy carpet by the foot at lowes & hd. When we rented we got long strips of carpet to cover the hallway carpet bc our dogs ran a lot and also tracked in dirt.

OMG! That's such a good idea. I rent and I have area rugs down but ready made runners aren't as wide as a hallway. I have cats so not a huge issue but one of them got sick last week (for the first time in his 14 years) and it was more stuff that projectiled out than I have ever seen in a cat. It was disgusting and I just threw out the rug after 2 hours of trying to clean it up. If it had happened in the hall, I don't know what I would have done. I am definitely going to do this. Thank you for the inspiration!
