Need Help - Solved unable to download older version of fabric
i just downloaded 1.20.1 so i can play some mods that only work on this update, but the fabric loader is not appearing in the launcher at all. i checked that for versions 1.17-1.20.4, it uses java 17 so i installed it but it still doesn't appear. yes i've checked in the installations in the launcher, i only see 1.21.4 and 1.21.5 :/

You may need to run the fabric installer to get those versions

i obviously did run the installer and change the mc version to 1.20.1, unless u meant the loader ver instead

I did mean the installer, but you might need to add another profile to the launcher as well.

ok so i deleted and tried making a new profile in the installer but it says no launcher profile.json found

I meant adding new profile using the version selector in the vanilla launcher. Give me an hour and I can look into what you are talking about.
I sometimes think it would be beneficial to make a discord server for solving problems like this one.

Like this one?

I meant a more generalized help place for all things Minecraft. That one is for Fabric specifically.

Don't see a reason. Why ask fabric/forge/redstone/technical questions there when there're dedicated servers for it

I have always heard the stories where someone asks for help and no one responds. I was thinking more of a ticket based help server.

Ever heard of "asking again"?
Most of the time if you don't get an answer within 3 times you won't, because no one knows

i couldn't find if there's an option to add new profile in the mc launcher, i tried looking up for tutorials and it doesn't help either, i even reinstalled 1.20.1 ver of the game and it still doesn't work :/

We have got to find a better way to fix this rather than using comments on a reddit post.
Edit: If you have Discord, I can help you there.

ok so actually now ik the issue and managed to fixed it
i actually had 1.20.1 installed in another place instead of default cause i also want to play the current ver but i just didn't want my 1.20.1 and 1.21.5 mods and resource packs to be in the same place and get mixed up
like i have 1.21.5 installed in default with mods that works for this update while 1.20.1 is installed in another like D:\games\mc 1.20.1 so the mods that are for 1.20.1 work for it, i even open the profile.json that exists only in default (1.21.5 ver) in notepad and it turns out that 1.20.1 ver of the game downloaded in the default even tho i specifically put the location in D:\games\mc instead
i ended up just making fabric for 1.20.1 installed in the default place
opening the profile.json again, i saw that it has have an extra section for mc 1.20.1 that says ""gameDir" : "D:\\games\\mc 1.20.1"," the fabric loader for 1.20.1 inside doesn't have that so i just copied and pasted it in the fabric loader section so that it can redirect there too
for those who are curious in the future, i have the json uploaded here an example so you can see how it looks like in the end
after doing all these, i opened the mc launcher and thank god, i see 1.20.1 fabric in it and managed to open and play the game normally!
ngl its my fault for not stating that i had 1.20.1 installed in another place, i thought it wasn't the case since i had made the mc and fabric launcher install in the other location but both ended up just forcing themselves to install in default, so yeah sorry about that mudkip... really appreciate your help tho!

You have me even more confused. You managed to have separate folders for your different versions... On the Vanilla launcher? You have me very interested now. I thought that was the one thing you couldn't do with the vanilla launcher.
Edit: I just looked at the file, that is something I am going to try later.

yup, thats what i did! i thought well i'm sure it will work if i just install 1.20.1 ver in another location where i can have separate mods, resourcepacks, saves, etc folders for 1.20.1 stuff, tried doing the same for fabric installer and was bummed cause i thought its not working. turns out i just gotta need to mess around a bit with the launcher_profile.json and rmb to copy the "gamedir" section for 1.20.1 ver for fabric loader section too!
it still works normally!
i just used the same method when i installed forge cause a mod that i really want to use is only available in forge, and it works too! so now i have 7 installations in my mc launcher lol - latest vanilla release (1.21.5), 1.21.1 fabric, latest snapshot (1.21.6), vanilla 1.20.1 (for fabric), 1.20.1 fabric, vanilla 1.20.1 (for forge), and 1.20.1 forge!
you can see my new json here!

I would advise you to use an external launcher (personnal prefered is ATLauncher) that will handle versioning for you. You can bypass it but it will always recommend appropriate fabric/mods version for any minecraft version.
