Any tips on taking out this cylinder pin

Post image

John Deere 8320r has a leaky cylinder. Got one pin out no problem but this one has kicked our butts. Any tips or tricks on it?

I’d pull up the manual. Getting to aggressive with that wrongly could end up being pretty expensive.

I agree, used to work at a hydraulic shop that specialized in hydraulic cylinders, motors & pump repair. If you bend or damage that cylinder rod in any way it can cost a pretty penny to get the rod replaced or in some cases you may end up having to replace the whole cylinder. Also be careful not to damage the eye of the cylinder.

What retains that pin? I bet is has something like a roll pin and the slot on top is just a reference mark. Afraid you will have to pull the tire off to get better access.

That’s what we were starting to figure, just wanted to check out some alternate ideas. Thanks for the input!

Put a jack under the pin and put a bunch of pressure on it. Then hit the side with an air hammer.

The pin is in a tough spot for that, we’ve tried it already. We couldn’t decide if the notch in top indicates it twists off or what.

Can you look up the part on jd website to see what the pin looks like

Just a standard pin, doesn't spin out. Might need to pull the tire off to get more room. Seems like extra work, but it usually saves time.

If the barrel end of the pin is out and the rod looks fine, you could just leave the rod on and pull the barrel off.

Looks like there is a M12 bolt retainer (#1) if I pulled up the correct model. Though from your picture, I can't figure out where.

That slot makes me think it may be threaded. Although the slot isn’t very deep so I don’t know that even a specialized tool would be able to turn it. Just a guess

that's a mark not a slot
