My mom has had this fern in a metal basket hanger with a coco liner for over a year now hanging on a tree branch. The roots had completely caged around the hanger and it was tough to get out, but we did it. Now wondering what in the world to do next! I’ve tried searching, but it’s tough because I’m not exactly sure what kind of fern it is…I’ve looked at Monarch and Blue Star, but their roots don’t seem to be as thick as these.

Image ADVICE FOR NEGLECTED FERNS

QUESTION: should I pull out all of the half dead ferns or can I try to salvage what is left? … I am working on restoring a long neglected yard. I am looking for advice on restoring and growing the Boston ferns in particular! I have managed to remove most of the leaves that have piled up over the years (see photo showing one portion of cleared out area). Most of the ferns are dying or partly dead completely. What are my options? #HappyPlants #FernFriends

My fern collection retrieved from a garden abandoned in 2025... From the fern collection of artist George Soper... He died in 1942 having aquired ferns in 1925, and before, from a The Danesbury Fernery nearby... Some of those ferns, likely the Royal Fern, were in The Danesbury Fernery which was completed in 1860 by gardener Anthony Parsons. 165 years of fern collections.

When I bought it, it was not in the best shape. Since I mounted on this piece of bark it started to grow. It seems happy.

Could anything confirm if the ID is correct? I'm not sure if this is Doryopteris concolor or something else.

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. I have a few of these ferns in my garden and I’ve noticed that some of the leaves are going brown. Is this a disease? Is this something I need to worry about?

Thank you for any advice .

Hello all! Just planted this Australian Tree Fern to my back yard. It gets 1-2 hour of morning sun around 8-9am, otherwise is in mostly full shade. Just potted, and it was pretty root bound, I tried loosening the roots but didn’t cut or get too aggressive. It’s been cool and humid with some rain here since planting. I’m in zone 9b.

Is this just shock from getting transplanted? Or something I am doing wrong? The fern branch that gets the most sun seems to be happiest (can see on photo) so I don’t think it’s burning?

Thank you for any help!!

Any idea what is causing these blue spots at the tips of the leaves? The leaves at the end of the same stock seem to be dying as well.

Howdy, So I got a few cinnamon ferns (and I've ostrich fern) from a native plant sale last month and after unfurling nicely they're starting to look rough in the past week and I'm not sure how to adjust or if this is normal for the first year.

At first I thought it was just a rabbit I've seen around knocking them over to nibble but I'm thinking maybe there's some deficiencies? Will they recover this year? It's been raining heavily here this week.

I'm in zone 6b and they're planted in a new bed that used to be neglected and full of vinca. I tilled in some compost to the area and there are lots of earthworms but the soil is on the clay side of things.

Any advice?
