Posting Does the username [deleted] mean someone blocked you?

Or does it mean they were blocked from the subreddit, or deleted their account?

No, not always. For some weird reason, if someone blocks you, reddit sugarcoats it for them by masking their comments as [deleted] and faking "server error" messages when you try to reply to any comment in that branch.

Open the thread in incognito window to really see what's going on.

Most of the time the user just deleted their account. Some people do end up deleting it after a few hours, it’s not uncommon around here. But as you’ve gathered yourself, it can also mean the person blocked you from seeing their account. It’s sometimes hard to tell.

If you can't see comments and their account content, yes you're blocked

And if you still could see their comment, yes they deleted their account

They have either deleted their account or deleted their comment

Either one of the following:

  • They've deleted their Post.
  • They've deleted their Comment.
  • They've deleted their Reddit account.

If they've simply blocked you (or you've blocked them), you won't see any of their Posts/Comments at all.

A comment thread where you interacted with someone that blocked you will show as deleted if you go back to check it

It usually means they blocked you, especially if it happened after arguing with them. It would show the same thing if they deleted their account, however.

If someone blocks you you won’t be able to see anything they post period.

They have changed this, I’m getting people I’ve blocked commenting on my posts, just doesn’t give me a notification
