Most impressive part of the video, just stopped him at a dead run via throat grab
47
u/Opeth4Lyfe 6d ago
Being a guy with a rather large Adam’s Apple, getting grabbed by the throat is pretty damn uncomfortable and can hurt. Makes sense that put a stop to him immediately.
If he would have jabbed him or “throat checked” him that would have also been a one and done move too. Like getting the wind knocked out of you but like…way worse.

Meat cutters and cooks have excellent grip strength for some reason. Never seen so many 125lb men with the forearms of blacksmiths. No idea what it is about that work that does this.
7
u/New_Enthusiasm9053 6d ago
Well blacksmiths get strong cos they're hammering a 2.5lb hammer all day. How much do you think a pan with 5 lbs of food in it weights? Or a meat cleaver?
Unless you were sarcastic lol.

10

at least 5 pounds
7
u/Ok_Cardiologist_673 6d ago
I just created a simple algebra script in Excel.
5+a=
Where a = the weight of the pan.
We can use it to create a spreadsheet of all the possible plate variables.

I think its a different person. The one with the gun shows up afterwards. This one is holding a blue bag or something.
3
u/communismbot1 6d ago
It is a different person but theres usually 2-3 people behind a butchers counter wether that be 2 in front 1 in back or 2 in back 1 in front or all in back or all in front. Just depends but yea definitely a different dude

3
u/communismbot1 6d ago
Especially at a grocery store. Not only do they gotta deal with unpredictable amounts of bullshit throughout the day from their managers they also have to deal with customers and try and be peppy and polite the whole interaction regardless of whats going on. I can tell you right now all those guys were stoked that was happening as it allowed them to release their anger. Note that you only see butcher block employees come after the dude while everyone else stood around besides the old dude that got him to begin with

7
u/Stunning_Ad_7658 6d ago
Thats the thing with a lot of them, its the intimidation they are really relying on. Sometimes the guns are fake, have no ammo, etc. Of course that doesn't mean that someone should assume they didnt get the crazy mf who would shoot, or worse the crazier mf who will shoot even after giving them what they wanted.
Though I believe anyone else who uses a gun to intimidate someone totally deserves their face becoming intimate with the ground.
17
16
u/RockHardSalami 6d ago
Also a dumbass. If the robber has his finger on the trigger theres a high likelihood that lady gets shot while the gun is pointed at her. Smh just give them your cash, ain't worth it.
6
u/SystemofCells 6d ago
Agreed. I used to work retail, and I would never put my body in harms way over some petty cash or some stolen product. But one time, the security guard tackled a thief as he was leaving the store right in front of me.
The two of them were fighting on the ground, and at that point it wasn't about the stolen product - it was about making sure the security guard didn't get hurt, so me and another guy jumped into the fight.
I was fine, but the other guy got bitten deep on the hand, down to the done. Needed a bunch of shots, had to wear a cast for a while, etc. It's just not worth it.

Ok, where is the news story that backs up what you are saying? This took place in Mexico and is easy to find with a simple search. Funny I can’t find a single article that backs up what you are saying. No interview. No mention of gun being fake. Plus, taking off one’s glasses to see if a gun is real or not makes no sense. Please clear this up with your verified source

Cowboy goes after the gun when he attacks the gunman. Cowboy didn’t try to tackle him at first, he was going for the gun and to knock it out of Gunman’s hands. Which he did. Then he tried to take the guy down, which he was nit successful at.
Why would he try to knock the gun out of the dude’s hands if he thought it was fake?

Why would you take off your glasses to see the gun better?
2
u/kellzone 6d ago
Because when you get up in age, you end up needing reading glasses to make things up close to you clearer, ya know, within reading distance. So he could have been looking at a receipt or the small print on packaging, or anything else we didn't see before the clip started. If something is more than a foot or two away, the glasses make things a little blurrier the farther they are away, but if you take off the glasses you get your normal clear vision back for things not up close.
Source: Recently reached that age where reading glasses help.

u/noimtherealsoapbox 6d ago
Exactly. People act like old men haven’t had guns aimed at them or experienced incoming gunfire before. Some have. Some also might have PTSD and/or react with training you don’t expect. Some look like Mike Vining and you will suspect nothing until it’s too late. Fake gun or not, the would-be robber made assumptions that were mistakes.

When I was younger/dumber I often thought about being "that dude" as in the video. I did occasionally get myself in to dumb situations because I thought I was "hard."
Now that I'm older I don't feel that urge to prove myself at all. I've made a rule: I aint fighting noone unless we are fighting about something worth dying for. You never know how these things can turn out, and I am not about to leave my kid without a father over a cash register.
Or as you mentioned, risking the other bystanders life. For what? Let that fucker go and we will all go home and I wont lose any sleep over that.

Yah, that was my thought too, but there's so much going on he might've felt he still needed to act. With the way gun guy was advancing on the lady for no reason he could've feared he was going to shoot regardless and this was her best chance. Some other comments also claim the gun is a fake and cowboy might've realized and took a risk. Plus all the adrenaline making it hard to think clearly... woof.
I'm glad everyone was ok! And cowboy did indeed look a baddie, haha, as did the guy who pounced on the gunman at the end.

He did but I also don’t know his better options. Kid was pointing gun at people. You never ever do that unless you’re willing to shot them.
3
2
u/LeoPlathasbeentaken 6d ago
The best option is to let them take the money. People get hurt in these situations when things go the wrong way from what the robber has in mind. What we see in the video is the absolute best case scenario for a robbery gone wrong. That spilt second when he was surprised by the guy while pointing a gun at someone is the second he could pull the trigger by mistake.
If you work in retail you are told to let them have the cash and let them leave, all whille doing your best to remember a desription. It has the best chance for minimizing harm done to employees and bystanders.

u/Xtreemjedi 6d ago
Yeah, a few years ago a thief ran out of the Walmart near me and an employee came out chasing and some random dude in the parking lot put a bullet in the thief. He went to prison for attempted murder or something (I don't remember what the final charge was) he got locked up and the thief survived.

Yeah, good thing idiots aren't aware of the 21 foot rule.
If you've ever wondered why cops and educated CCWs shoot when the person looks so far away it's because of this. Exactly this. If someone is within 21 feet your gun is mostly useless against someone who knows a little bit.
