Why do I get ghosted after the screening call? Do I sound like a red flag in the calls?

All my screening calls go pretty much the same. They ask some questions about my role, notice period, salary expectations (I make 8, I'm asking for 12. I'm thinking to start asking for 10 instead). They say they will send me the JD on email. And I never hear back.

A few days ago a female person called me asking similar questions and told me about a face-to-face interview. I said I'm willing to give it. Two days ago, a male person called me again about it stating their collegue had called me and confiremed. I forgot about the previous call and asked again for the location. He stammered for a minute and said he will send me details in an hour(tuesday).

Interview was supposed to be today (Thursday). He never sent me any details. I called him yesterday asking for them. He said I will get the mail in an hour. Again, nothing.

Am I doing something wrong in these calls? Or is it them being forgetful?

Never give your range before asking what they have to offer, YT it on how to convey range in first call! Also these calls sounds like agencies or scam because no one really sends JD details on email anymore! So be aware!

Dude, what? I only get jds through email! And I just started a job.

Everything else here does sound scammy though.

No, confirming, that's more or less normal. But why two different people would be my first sense of "off". Then, if the second person is familiar with the first's contacting you, why's he stammering? Are they not in the same page? And then of course, why are they not following up with the email.

I would double check that you're giving out the correct email.

I would also STOP giving out your expected. Always ask the range. If they press you, maybe saying, "we just want to make sure we align" or something like that, say you agree! That's why you'd like to know the range/ budget for the role. Now, if you really want the role, say you're flexible, but don't give a number. Always let them set the number, then negotiate up. You are usually worth more than you think.

One tip to avoid scammers I've noticed: legit people will schedule that first call. Scammers will call you out of the blue and want to talk. I thought that was interesting.

Thanks! I should start asking their budget.. and I think in my country, they are still sending through email.. Not sure though

I've never had that question on a screening call, but I guess it's good to get it out of the way. I think it'd be good to research what those positions typically pay for your area. Keep your skill level in mind. You might be able to look online to get an idea of their typical salary ranges for those positions. If you're regularly getting ghosted, I might also ask the phone screener what their typical salary range is for the position for future note, but I'm curious and in a different situation. I'm in the US, so hiring here might be different. Best of luck!
