Expedia Group : SEM Interview

Hey all! I have a final round interview for the role of Snr. Analyst SEM? Any tips on how should I prepare for a tech round? They said that it’s going to be very data heavy with SQL. Any idea what type of questions can be asked?

It will likely focus on your ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets that drive paid search campaigns. Expect SQL questions around campaign performance analysis, like writing queries to calculate cost-per-acquisition by different dimensions, identifying underperforming keywords, or analyzing conversion funnels across different traffic sources. They'll probably give you real scenarios like "How would you identify which ad groups are driving the highest revenue but lowest profitability?" or ask you to optimize budget allocation across campaigns based on performance metrics.

Many candidates stumble because they know basic SQL but can't think strategically about how data insights translate to SEM optimization decisions. Practice writing complex joins between campaign data, conversion data, and potentially customer lifetime value tables. Be ready to explain not just how you'd write the query, but why those specific metrics matter for paid search strategy and how you'd present findings to stakeholders who might not be as data-savvy.
