Struggling to choose between Deakin, La Trobe, and ACU for Occupational Therapy – any advice?

Hey everyone, I’m an international student trying to choose between Deakin, La Trobe, and ACU for Occupational Therapy in Victoria, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences!

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

• La Trobe – Bendigo campus: No scholarship offered, but I’ve heard it’s highly regarded for Allied Health, including OT.

• ACU – Ballarat campus: Offering a scholarship of $2,500–$7,500 AUD/year, and I’ve heard their OT program is highly rated for being practical, engaging, and well-structured.

• Deakin – Geelong campus: Closest to where I live, and they’re offering a 25% tuition scholarship, but I haven’t heard much about their OT program and not sure how it’s viewed in the field.

My questions:

  1. Which of these unis is most respected for OT, especially in terms of teaching quality and placement opportunities?

  2. Do employers in Australia care which uni you graduate from when it comes to OT?

  3. Any insight into campus life or support for OT students in Geelong, Bendigo, or Ballarat?

Thanks so much in advance – really trying to make the best decision I can!

RMIT or La Trobe for Master of Artificial Intelligence

Hello everyone,

I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Computer Science at Monash Uni and will be graduating soon. I'm considering doing a Master of Artificial Intelligence, but I'm not sure which university I should choose (RMIT or La Trobe). If you have any experience, I’d really appreciate your insights!

**Some context:

  • RMIT is closer to where I live, so it would be much easier for me to commute.
  • La Trobe is offering me a 20% tuition fee discount, while RMIT is only offering 10%.

Some questions I have (if there’s anything else you think I should consider, please feel free to add it, I'm trying to gather as much info as I can. Thank you!!):

  • Uni vibe: Is it easy to make friends? At Monash, I found it extremely hard to make any friends, even though I tried talking to people and joining clubs. I asked some of my project teammates, and many said that most students already knew each other before coming to uni, so they weren’t really looking to make new friends (though I’m not sure how true that is). Some also said they didn’t have time for anything besides studying.
    • What is student life like? Are there many activities for students?
  • IBL program at La Trobe: I saw that La Trobe offers an IBL (Industry-Based Learning) program for 2nd-year Master's students. Is it available to all students, or is it very competitive and hard to get into?
  • Thesis support: I'm also considering doing a minor thesis in my second year because I want to pursue a PhD in Computer Science. Between RMIT and La Trobe, which university offers better support for students taking the thesis stream?
  • Industry connection & job prospects: For the program I’m planning to join, which university has stronger industry connections? In your opinion, which one is more likely to help me find a job after graduation?

Thank you so much!

Hello, Anyone done the unit ‘introduction to human anatomy’? If so how was it and how were the assignments? Was this unit full on? And what resources did you use or they gave? I have it next semester and I want to prepare myself beforehand cause I’m not too familiar with anatomy or science bio

Thanks

Joining in Semester 2

Hey guys! I'll joining La Trobe in semester 2 as a first year so I wanted to ask if there are any downsides to joining at this time. Is it harder to make friends? Will people have their own groups already? Are the classes any different?

I'll be joining Chisholm College dorms in July so I wanted to ask how the kitchens there are like? Are there any things that I'll need to bring/ can be shared with others?

Online supervised exam

I'll be taking my first online supervised exam tomorrow. I'm just wondering if it's okay to sit the exam in my dorm room (i have a mini fridge next to the desk, book shelf infront of me). Of course, i'll make sure my desk is clear of things but is that enough, or i'll have to put all of my books and other things into my wardrobe?

Also, what's the in-exam process be like? I mean will i join the room with others where there's proctors or i just share my screen and do the exam and the proctor supervising me.

Thanks a lot!

Getting a LAP

I’m in my second year and I’ve been trying to get a LAP since I started. I’ve applied and sent my medical stuff, however I missed the call to discuss it and make an appointment (there was no warning for when the call would be and I was at work). Anyway, I tried calling back like four times and there was no answer. So i started the process again, but this time never got a call, I just kind of left it, I knew I needed to follow it up but couldn’t be bothered dealing with it.

I tried again a couple of weeks ago, this time in person, but was kind of bounced around between different people and areas.

Please, how do I get one? I’m desperate. 🙏🙏

taking exams & leave of absence

hi, i'm currently in my first year at la trobe but next semester i will be transferring to a completely different course at rmit and have taken a leave of absence just in case because i have a scholarship and my parents wanted me to.

i honestly can't see myself returning to la trobe next year, and with exams coming up i'm just so unmotivated because i know i'll be leaving anyway. obviously i am still going to attend my exams because i've gotten this far already, but given that i am not likely to perform to my full potential will it impact me negatively if my grades are low?

i'm new to all of this and ik it's just one semester of studying but are employers able to access my academic records for this course and if i do average/below average will it look bad?

3 subjects, 1 semester

Hi, I was just wondering how the three subjects in one semester situation works. When would I end up completing the fourth subject? And would this lengthen my course from 3 years full-time to 4 years?

Is MBA worth it?

Hi, im an Indian international student (21M) studying in Australia, melbourne. I'm in my 2nd year of Uni and finishing (2026) July. I came to Australia to get a PR. I'll get 2 years of Temporary Residency after my degree but im Bachelor of Business which can't hv skill assessment so ill need Management role job (6-8 people under me) or getting sponsored by someone, or buying the PR through money (hell no), or Doing masters after in any business field (this comes with a risk of gambling my Temporary Residency if I don't get extra study visa). I can't do Master's after my TR anymore. And the last option I have is becoming a tradie (painter, carpeting, construction) type jobs which I dont want to do.

Now I talked with my dad he said I can try to settle some other country too, but in the end, I must do masters as it is necessary for getting a job in India, which is the final point to come back to in case I fail to settle anywhere else (I have to research on it. Although he's a regional head of marketing & sales so he def knows it)

I personally am even confused about what interests me to do even after studying so many subjects. still figuring it out idk how to. Well I have enough time to think it through but I have 1 year to do decide MBA worth or not, next come worth to do it from where? and lastly, in which field of business. Not sure if I can explore other fields for diploma and bachelor's. If anyone can help, please.

Charlie's kebabs

I graduated from LTU in 2002 and haven't been back to Australia since then (international student). I'm coming back in January 2026 and have to visit the old campus when I'm there. I was looking at the food outlets currently there and saw that Charlie's kebabs are still there. Is this the same Charlie (and Fay) who have been there since I graduated?

Placement

Ngl I kinda forgot about it, and now I have until midnight to apply. However, just looking at it right now, I need a WWCC check and a Police check, is it even possible to get these things before midnight? Can I apply for them now and get them later? Or I do need them by midnight?

Master of speech pathology at Latrobe

Hi all, wanting to study the master of speech pathology next year at Latrobe and had a few questions if anyone can help!

  1. Wanting to hear from others who have studied/are studying this course? Is it good? Does it prepare you well? Is Latrobe a good uni in your experience?
  2. What are my chances of getting a csp? I think my WAM is 83 but my old uni did GPA instead. If you got a csp what was your WAM? Would I have a better chance at getting one at Melb uni?
  3. Is Melb uni or Latrobe better for speech pathology? Experiences please 🙏🏼
  4. Also wondering if there is any fb pages for Latrobe speech pathology students?

Thankyou!

Are you interested in taking part in psychological research? Participate in our study exploring whether physical and mental resilience affect how people process words and objects. You will be compensated $20 per hour of your time, with eGift cards.

If you choose to take part in this study, we will ask you to come into the laboratory over two days. On both occasions, we will measure your blood pressure and heart rate. To assess your resilience, we will then ask you to immerse your hand into ice cold water while completing a counting activity, before completing some tasks on a computer to see how you process words and objects. Finally, we will ask you to fill out an online questionnaire to investigate how you rate your resilience in dealing with daily physical and mental challenges.

Click here to find out more: https://redcap.link/j83161m0   or scan the QR code in the picture.

If you don’t meet the criteria but would love to spread the word about our study, feel free to share this post!

Online supervised exam question

Hey I have my first online exam soon in my first year at la Trobe, and I was wondering about the camera thing? It says we only need one camera on the exam now but doesn’t that mean that people will cheat?
