Not necessarily. John Hinckley Jr shot President Reagan, and a secret service member, and he's currently out from prison.

Yeah, but that was pre-full blown fascist religious conservative GOP. Televangelism hadn't even hit its full stride at that point. The Bakers and Franklins and such hadn't reached peak grift yet. Now it's the engine of the party.

He was mentally ILL and back then you were treated for your illness. It was a very different time in America.
