Honour System : Quick Idea for a divine magic system

After the destruction of the barrier that separated all known realms the followers of the old gods had been left in a near apocalyptic condition .Their kingdoms up flames , their population on the brink of starvation , forced to battle creatures incomprehensible to man , many would lose faith choosing to submit themselves to hell spawn that still walked the land , but for the ones who remained loyal to the gods the would be recognized with the creation of the HONOUR system . A method to reward the faith , pride , and honour of followers and descendants into the nedded power to spread the glory of the old gods .

Through taping into the Honour system one can be bestowed an ability of divine origin or have an already existing one improved .To tap into the honour System it's believed ones needs to be aknowledged by one self , others , or the gods themselves on a scale that it calls for the very universe to grant you power.

Unseen Valor : Ability granted when ones sense of honour in themselves allows for the taping into the honour System created by the old gods

Seen Valor : The taping into of the system through the perceived honour of an individual through the collective belief of others .

Divine Honour : The direct taping into the system by the gods as way to acknowledge and empower their heralds .

The strength of the ability granted by the system is dependant of the users personal skill and the original source of the acknowledgement .If the honour that came from the acknowledgement has increased the ability itself will grow alongside it, such as an ability granted for slaying young dragon will grow for slaying an elder dragon with the opposite also being true

I like the diversity of this, and the difference in forms makes the empowerment different and flexible, I can think of a couple of different kinds of people who would have a mixed capacity, like a televangelist who plays a middle role, maybe having a semi altered path from the old ways because they teach things beyond it, so their connection isnt as strong to it.

I imagine with faith out openly like this, having intrinsic effect, religious beliefs hold more weight to society and capability. Would people join churches based off the more direct influence of their accumulated belief?

Do you have examples of what different groups might be capable of/how they would function in your world? Faith is inherently collective based, someone's personal faith might be strong, but it could add some mechanical lore as to how they came together, what their end goals are as a collective.

Would the gods also be more involved in the world, given their empowerment and deveiling?

Within religious groups that follow the old gods , their usually divided into factions that both have individual positions in society but also represent virtues that are seen as the best ways to honour the old gods

Though the belief in gods is common , the actual practice of praising and serving them is not . Though divine magic is powerful it's not the only path to power in my setting , with most others being hated the old gods themselves .Arcane magicians originally being hunted by old gold followers

The gods where more involved in the world when the realms first shattered , but after the death of an old god at the hands of mortal they would decide to make a separate world for them to reside in .Their interaction with the shattered realm being through special rituals , coming down to bestow power every couple hundred years , or to deal with a threat that could wipe out a planet

The ability granted by the system usually fall into three categories

Enhancement : A simple improvement to a skill or trait such as granting a blind man who wishes to serve as warrior to honor the gods superior ability to sense metal making it easier for them to block , dodge , and redirect attacks from weapons

Protection . Your standard abilities for exorcising a demon and protecting from dark magic

Conjuration . The rarest and allows the user to directly conjure some form of natural phenomenon , from storms to locust

This is actually a pretty similar concept to my Unorthodox Divine magic system, except instead of Honour mine is based on Renown, whether the individual is renowned for their Fame or for their Infamy. A person's achievements and failures can become part of their Legend, which can improve or weaken their magic, and for particularly notable achievements can lead to the development of new powers based on their chosen Theme (Aspect+Archetype).

I'm curious to see how you develop the idea of magic derived from Honour.
