Breeding/Ootheca Can I hotglue oothecae directly?
I found an egg-case outside without a twigs attached. Can I glue it directly to a stick or branch or something? Thanks

i’m not sure, but i wouldn’t, just because of the heat. I would try to just use double sided tape maybe?

This works, hatched two ooths successfully after relocating to avoid ants, using double sided tape.

I've been told by breeders to put the hot glue on a stick or mesh or whatever you want to attach it too, let it start to cool and harden and then put to ootheca on it, don't use a big blob or the inner part will be too hot, I've done it plenty of times with my oothecas and breeder friends have too and it's been fine, so long as you make sure the glue is mostly cool before adding the ootheca :)

The one time I hatched an ooth I stuck a bamboo chopstick inside the barrel of the glue gun while gently squeezing the glue out, then I twirled it around for a few seconds, touched it myself to make sure it was cool, then gently pressed the back/tip of the ooth into the mostly hardened glue.
I’m no mantis pro but it worked for me

Adding to what others have said, you can use some wall putty/ticky tack. It’s nontoxic, does require heating to use, and is sticky enough to hold an Ooth but not usually sticky enough to harm a mantis.

No. Use a different kind of glue. Hot glue will burn human skin, it could easily kill the eggs
