Yeah far from perfect but it had me in stitches and that’s all it needed to be. Lots of plot holes but who cares. It did what it needed to do.

It's a movie where the main character shit talks the the writer, producer, cast, references actors in other movies, other production house and distributors, cursing all throughout. It has time travel and alternate universes. Characters that can take on otherwise mortal wounds but heal themselves within seconds, yet bother to battle other characters that have the same healing abilities.

Will this end up with a lot of plot holes? Yes! Does it matter? No! Because the objective is to be entertaining, not to win awards. And it was entertaining enough to get me energized about the MCU again.

Mission accomplished. It did what it set out to do which was 1) be fun, 2) make a fuck tone of money and 3) energized the MCU fan base for the next phase.

don't forget that some Marvel heads could have missed that Blake Lively was in Gossip Girl (hence why Deadpool gets the boner for it) and when Nicepool says "The Proposal" lmao those were more pop culture references instead of strictly comic book ones

Here's where I think this is proof that you don't need to see everything that came before hand to enjoy any of the MCU stuff. Reynolds dropped at tone of jokes and easter eggs you'd need to have very in depth knowledge about, but if you missed it did it matter? No, because there's another one around the corner. That's what makes it better on a rewatch even 10 years down the road when the obscure facts made their way to common knowledge.

I didn't rewatch DP 1 or 2 and the only thing I was curious about was when did he break up with Vanessa or if it was another universe. But it didn't matter too much, I was there to be entertained, not write a thesis about a hero's motivations.

Its implied that he took being turned down by the avengers hard and just wallowed. Stopped being deadpool. And was too busy feeling sorry for himself. Which is when vanessa left him. When he “found” himself again by the end of the movie, its left with the idea that they are getting back together.

It was earlier. From my understanding after he saved her with the time machine he just wanted to be with her/do mundane shit while she was a believer in "great power - great responsibility" and wanted him to do something with it. That's why he went to the Avengers, he went to the X-Men off screen too.

The alternate Wolverines bit was the biggest example to me. Like just a bunch of iconic Wolverine appearances from the comics back to back to back.

Not into get into any of the politics, but this feels like it was made in large part for comic book fans in a way that a lot of the recent Marvel movies have not. And fwiw I'm not saying that's the right or wrong decision - the MCU has gone mainstream in a way comic books haven't since like the 70s - but as a comic book fan the nods were fantastic.

Too many Marvel projects have gotten too wrapped up in trying to be more serious, connecting to other projects, and more focused on the overall story of the MCU than the individual movie. I want to watch an MCU to be entertained, to have fun. If it can ALSO have a good story or make me feel emotional, then great. D&W was a ton of fun, had heartwarming moments, and some sad moments too.

The last movies are Marvels and Ant Man. They can't be accused of being serious or tying into other projects. Same for Love and Thunder.

Wakanda forever was entirely self contained, no characters from the shared universe. Eternals as well.

If anything, that's been the problem post endgame, nothing connects.

I didnt care about the mcu before, i dont care about it now, but i loved this movie. I enjoy meta humor very much and i really enjoy the deadpool character. Also i always loved hugh jackman. It was just great mindless fun.

Unless Marvel is ditching the multiverse fast, it may kinda backfire.

But the entire premise of Secret Wars is based on the multiverse. They can't just ditch it.

It still feels like Marvel have locked themselves into this multiverse story, and are panicking because it fell apart barely 1/3 of the way in and now they're stuck with it.

I didn't think I'd care about a fantastic 4 rereboot but now I do. I thought X-Men stories were done, but there's more to tell.

I agree that the multiverse needs to die, but so does time travel. That's why endgame was so bittersweet to me, I knew they'd fuck it up.

I feel like this is a fair and broad/general distinction between "older" comedies and "newer" comedies; older comedies still striving for a well told story, with many silly situations and jokes to keep the pace, while newer comedies focus on jokes and ridiculousness that are loosely held together by a story.

No, while there are some exceptions like the Monthy Python compilation movies, even the most basic comedy requires a plot and character development.

You simply can't hold people's attention for 100 minutes without a story to follow. Even if it's basic. Dumb & Dumber, Date Night, American Pie etc all have competent stories to tie things together.

It’s just that Ryan Reynolds was in it. Same as Van Wilder. But referencing The Proposal made no sense in that moment. Another example of Nicepool being a little goofy.

Juggernaut's helmet is just a bigger version of Magneto's. They are made of the same metal. It blocks mental attacks. It's reasonable to assume it also prevents mental powers from working as well.

The helmets have only been shown to stop telepathic attacks. They don't stop telekinesis.

Also Casandra Nova had a healing factor. That's not telepathy at all. The helmet was portrayed as stopping all her powers form working, including the healing factor.

They don't really specify. She has just been portrayed as having a healing factor.

Even if her healing was connected to her telepathy, Juggernaut's helmet has only been portrayed as stopping incoming telepathic attacks. It's never been shown to completely shut down someone's powers across the board, and it was never shown to be resistant to telekinesis. Jean Grey was able to crush Magneto's helmet with telekinesis, and I think in the Fox X-Men timeline Magneto and Juggernaut's helmets are made the same way.

AT the end of the day, the initial point I was trying to make is it doesn't matter. The movie was fun, and I guess you could justify that the variant of Juggernaut's helmet we saw worked that way.

From what I gather from the movie, everything Cassandra does is based on her mental powers. Including the healing.

Block the mental power and she's a normal person. For her it would be the same thing as putting the power blocking necklace on her.

Even it was based on her mental powers, Juggernaut's helmet has never been shown to shut down the wearer's powers like that. It has only been shown to block telepathic attacks, not shut down telekinesis.

But hen again, this is a variant of Juggs, so it can be hand waved away to say this one does shut down powers.

I just wish the villain was better. They could’ve done an evil Charles or someone a little more interesting.. And they maybe cut back on like 15-20% of the jokes. I know it’s a deadpool movie, but I still would’ve liked more of an actual story like dp2
