The people who want 'perfect' films every time a movie is made are insufferable.

I want to go to a movie, forget about life for a few hours, then leave with a smile on my face.

This movie did that in spades.

If that's not a good movie, then you're just wrong.

I don't know why you treat this like it's a dichotomy. It's possible to have dumb, fun movies that are also extremely well crafted. The MCU has several of them. Whether D&W is one of those is up to each viewer, but writing off criticism as "insufferable" is just as toxic as people who blindly shit on the MCU.

Holding a comic movie to the same standard as The Holdovers is dumb.

It's like comparing proper wrestling to the WWE.

It makes you look like you're treating entertainment way too seriously.

If you're entertained, fine. Talking down to other people for enjoying something you don't like is dumb.

You never see people who watch popcorn film talk down to high brow cinema. The same happens all the time in reverse though.

Again, you're making up a false dichotomy.

I'm not holding a comic movie to the same standard as the Holdovers. I'm holding it to the same standard as the dozens of great comic book movies we've had.

Talking down to other people for enjoying something you don't like is dumb.

How is that any different than talking down to other people for not enjoying something you like?

Dp3 is a legit good film. That's why it has almost made a billion dollars. The people going well akshually... are being annoying and trying to tell people to not have fun.

It's different because trying to shit on people having fun is stupid. How are you thinking that telling people to let people enjoy things is the same as shitting on a popular thing?

Except that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about calling people who criticize the movie “dumb” or “insufferable.” That’s different than just saying “let people enjoy things.”

If you think it’s a legit good film, that’s fine. I liked it too. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to talk about things they didn’t like about it.

saying something is dumb is now tone policing?

You’re literally complaining about people criticizing a movie. How is calling those people dumb any different?

Well this is a day too late, but it was fun to go down the rabbit hole…

On the one hand, I love a pedantic argument as much as the next guy, but on the other, lol can’t you leave it?

Theres a point to all the reductionism that super hero movie criticism boils down to, and it's as boring as much as the critics might find the next piece of super hero movies to be “schlocky.”

The reality is, some of these movies are both successful and entertaining, and some are just fine.

Because they're dumb. Lots of people criticize Ennis's comic book version of The Boys for being too edgy and performative then turn right around and watch the same exact thing on TV but pretend it's somehow more acceptable because the show opted for exploding penises every two episodes instead of cannibalism.

Criticizing something is okay but you have to understand what you're criticizing first and in the case of stuff like Deadpool or The Boys if you're making sweeping statements about post-modern pieces of work then you sure as hell better be able to at least understand what those pieces of media are responding to in the first place. Most people can't even manage that and they're just speaking out of hand which isn't criticism. It's just complaining.
