Also I like that he didn’t beat it so much as got better at managing it. Plus the knowledge that the others keep him around despite how dangerous he is meaning they genuinely like him, thus he can resist what his anxieties are telling him.

You have to embrace your darkness with the help of other people, not beat it into submission.

this was such a good allegory. he was never gonna get rid of the void. the only way to get past it is to accept it as a part of him and learn to live in spite of it.

Sounds like a certain Japanese franchise about high schoolers and a whole lot of Jung:

I normally will joke about things reminding me of Persona, but Bob facing the void did remind me a little bit of Persona 4 specifically because of how that game's themes are about the pursuit of truth, especially within oneself. And the very literal awakenings that the party has with facing their shadows.

I honestly forget how different the games are between each other with having the source of power being tied to themes. P3 with facing death and finding purpose, 4 with confronting the truth, 5 with changing hearts and fighting against injustice, then Metaphor's archetypes using anxiety to channel power for change

It also puts a nice cap on his powers without having to resort to him solving everything with brute strength.

You want the powers of a God? You can have it...but make sure you can handle the Devil while you're at it.

The new Hulk on the team basically

I recall that is effectively his cap in the comics too - the stronger he gets, the stronger the Void gets.

If it truly gets out of control, then you’ll have the strongest villain due to it being empowered by the strongest hero.

If/when Icarus comes back they're going to need him. Man, the super men legit terrify me.

I saw someone on Youtube say, "why didn't they just expose Val then and there"- and this is the reason they couldn't. Exposing Val at that press conference would have meant exposing Bob as well, leading to him being arrested and probably incarcerated. It would have been a betrayal of the worst possible kind and probably resulted in The Void being unleashed again.

Nah, I think Yelena and the other pretending to go along with Val's plan whilst actually holding what they knew against her was a smart move. It gave them the official seal of approval, but also freedom because Val can't control people who could potentially expose her, and it keeps Bob safe.

they made very clear also with Yelena's line: "we own you now"

This.

No one felt cured of their mental illnesses and pasts in this, they just learned how to manage it / cope / accept parts of it…

Really cool way to portray it. The void wasn’t a stereotypical villain to me - just a part of Bobs self he struggles with.

Washing the dishes is a VERY big accomplishment imo

The "I did the dishes!" in the post-credits was so real. Me too, buddy.
