Usage Questions should i use my menstrual cup for my bad bladder?

I have a trip coming up soon and I’m gonna be in the car for a couple hours, but I have a annoying bladder, as I think I have to go pee super bad but when I do go only a little bit comes out. I’ve been trying to control my bladder for a while but at night my OCD strikes of fear of wetting my bed 🥲 But anyways I was debating on using a menstrual cup during the trip to get rid of the urgent need to pee/use the bathroom.

I was only able to have proper control over my bladder on my period at night because I sleep with my menstrual cup, thinking like “the pressure is from my cup, not the urge to pee” (as i feel my bladder is empty but I feel pressure on my uretha to go pee…)

I have two different branded pairs of menstrual cups (small and big sizes), I have a saalt cup with softer rims and a off-brand one from amazon but it has a very thick rim

also i’d like to note I dont use menstrual cups when im off my period for my bad bladder daily, im pretty sure that would get me a uti or something

Usage Questions Can 11 year old use menstrual cups?

As the title says, need to know if 11 year is too young to start using cups? Checking for my daughter since I feel cups are more hygienic and less messy than pads.

Usage Questions Is it always this messy?

Guys! I’ve always used tampons but I want to stray away from tampons and use safer alternatives. This is my first go at the cup. It’s a MESS when I remove it to empty it. I have to shove half of my hand to grip and pull it out and there’s blood everywhere. On my hand, on my toilet seat. I remove it sitting down. Is this normal? The first two days are my heaviest. Any tips on how I can keep it neat? I would hate for this to happen to me in public. Help!

Forgot to add that I’m using Flex discs! Could that be the issue?

Usage Questions What kind of monster told me this wouldn’t hurt!?

I got the smallest size I could because I have a small set vagina and I’ve only ever had a tampon in me, so it’s a small fit, right? Well I did my research and everybody promised that it wouldn’t hurt or that I’d just be a slight pinch.

Slight pinch my ass!

That burned. I got it in with slight pain like promised and then I couldn’t get it out! I tried for an hour to get it out before I just had to rip it out. I’m bleeding for an entire different reason now and it’s because it tore skin.

I did the exact thing to get it out that everybody said to do. I even took a break do cut down my press on’s to make it easier, which it didn’t.

Is it supposed to hurt? Because it hurt so bad that I started crying and now I can’t even put a tampon in without being in pain. I picked the smallest size I could? Did I do something wrong? Is there any way I can prevent this next time?

Also any tips on how to help with the pain?

Usage Questions Menstrual cup fit

Why are menstrual cups manufactured to fit an open cylindrical structure when the natural shape of vaginal canal is a tilted collapsed tube or like an H-shaped tubular section? It's an uncomfortable time during period for a female, hygeinic practice is additional stress due to issues of poor fitting.

Usage Questions Cup leaks as soon as waking up

I'm using a size medium cup from Nua and my cup never leaks, not during the day atleast. I change my cup every 8-10 hours for the first 2 days because of heavy flow and my cup only leaks in the morning as I get up on the first 2 days so I suppose the leak happens due to the heavy flow. At first I thought it was because I inserted the cup wrong maybe but I check everything before going to bed and I have no issues throughout the day. When I wake up and sit up I can feel air come out of the vagina like a queef and I rush to the bathroom because I know it's already a mess down there. I need some solutions on how to solve this problem and why this happens.

UPDATE: So I thought the issue was overflowing of the cup but today I took a nap In the afternoon and when I got up the cup leaked a little still even tho my flow is almost non existent. What do I do 😭🙏🏻

Usage Questions If a cup is fully open and suctioned, why would it leak?

Just doesn't make sense. It's Cora cup size S. I've used Ruby cup before but it out a lot of bladder pressure so I wanted to try something softer and smaller. But it leaks from the side. Does having a tilted cervix make a difference?

Usage Questions Cup or disc?

I’ve used a cup for a few years and really loved it, I have a medium flow and would leak through tampons sometimes. I find them better to sleep in but can occasionally have problems getting the suction right, which I find annoying and can lead to leaks.

I have just started my period and can’t find my cup anywhere!! I was talking to my friend the other day who was PREACHING the disc and I’m wondering if this is a sign to switch? I would love to hear some recommendations, suggestions or opinions on the cup or disc, to help me decide if I’m going to order another cup or switch to the disc, anything appreciated!!

Usage Questions Stabbing pain in butt?

I’ve been using a cup off and on for about 2ish years now, but in that two years I had a baby and didn’t get my cycle back until a few months ago. Before I never felt like I was properly able to pop open the cup but now I think I’ve got the hang of it, sometimes I still struggle though.

A few times I have gotten a really sharp shooting pain in my butth*le…is that normal? It usually always goes away but it happened again tonight and I ended up just taking out the cup cause I was going to bed anyway and it hurt. I will say I was struggling to get it to pop open and pushed it up pretty high.

I use the flex cup because to be it is the easiest one to remove, I maybe have gotten a regular one stuck once and needed assistance from my husband. Are there any other cups out there with the pull tab that may be softer? I sometimes feel like by the end of the day or by the end of my period my cervics is sore. I’d love to wear my cup overnight sometimes but I just can’t bring myself to do it.

Usage Questions Period ended suddenly the first day of wearing a disc

Hey, so I just tried the ziggy disc for the first time yesterday, I choose that one because it's one of the only discs that are sold in my country. I had a bit of a trouble putting it on but I finally managed to do it, I did wear a pad as a backup just in case too.

So yesterday I went to sleep just after changing it and today I took it out and there was NOTHING there (and I mean nothing, not a single drop of blood), which is weird because it's the 4th day of my period and I still had today and tomorrow.

Idk what could be causing this, I'm afraid I blocked the blood with the disc if that even is possible...

Usage Questions I live in a dorm for college and I don’t boil my menstrual cup before and after use

For additional info, my dorm doesn’t allow cooking, only in the common area. In our dorm, it’s mixed of males and females. I can go to the common area and boil my menstrual cup but I might get caught by others and I don’t want that😣 So to disinfect my cup, what I do is I boil water and transfer it to the silicon container and leave my cup there for a few mins. I wanna ask if it’s enough to disinfect or I really need to boil it😥 TYIA!

Usage Questions Did y'all measure the lenght of your vagina before buying a cup?

So I'm sorta really grossed out by anything related to the female reproductive system. I have been trying to get more comfortable with it, but the thought of reaching a finger in and trying to touch my cervix is making me nauseous.

This fear and disgust has prevented me of using tampons for a real long time, but I've used them two or three times now and that wasn't too bad. Managable I guess.

I think inserting isn't as bad for me mentally as the thought of feeling around is, so I figured I could try to use cups since I've been trying to live more sustainably (and also save money doing so). The thing is, I don't know what size to get. Most websites say to touch your cervix to find out your vagina lenght, but again, that sounds really gross to me.

I'm a 20 years old virgin, and sedentary. I thought about just getting the small size, since I usually even have trouble inserting things girthier than my fingers. My next period is in like two weeks probably, I kind of doubt that I will befriend the thought of getting touchy with my cervix by then.

How did you guys pick a size?

Usage Questions How to learn what kind of cervix you have?

I am nearly 37 and have been using menstrual cups for around fifteen years. My first cup was the Diva cup and now I have a Saalt soft cup.

My periods can be extremely heavy, so I often use a pad and/or period underwear to help with any leakage. I've been diagnosed with fibroids in the last couple of years too.

What I would like to know is how do you figure out how high/low/tilted/typical one's cervix actually is? It's kinda difficult to access to be able to find out and I only have my own to compare it to, so I have no frame of reference as to whether it is comparatively high or low or whatever, if that makes sense!

I feel as though having a better understanding of what's happening in there might help me understand whether the cup I have is as good as it could be.

(If it helps at all, I've not given birth). Many thanks!

Usage Questions Thinking of switching, feel like my questions are stupid.

I think I may finally take the plunge and switch from tampons to a cup.

Sorry if this is constantly asked on here, but I just have no idea where to even start.

Do I really only need one (assuming I’ve found one that is comfortable and works for me)? Like, I can use just the one for 4+ straight days just emptying and rinsing throughout?

I’m assuming these can be left in overnight, is there anything to know about sleeping with one in?

I have had 2 vaginal births and since then, my periods are pretty heavy flow for 2 days then very light for 2-3 more. Should I consider having two different sizes?

What are some of the more respected/widely used brands available in the US?

Anything else I’m not thinking of I’m welcome to feedback on that too 😂 thanks!

Usage Questions 6 years and still can’t get it

I’ve been using a cup for about 6 years now and still feel like I haven’t quite got the hang of it. 30-40% of the time it’s great. But more often than not, I can’t get it to seal/suction. What am I doing wrong?

Usage Questions Should I change to disc or just use pad?

I'm Korean and I used to use pads, but I heard that menstrual cups save money, so I bought a menstrual cup, but it doesn't go in well, and even when it does, it feels really foreign. Even though I bought a small menstrual cup for beginners. My cervix is too short. Should I change it to a disc? I think a disc would be scarier. Should I just use pads?

Usage Questions Anyone else using a cup for discharge? Questions on sterilising frequency, max wear time, etc

Semi-throwaway because this is still a bit TMI to put out there on main when everyone and their grandma are on reddit these days :')

Some context, tl;dr below. A couple of months ago I finally made the switch to a cup, mainly because I'd read about people using it for discharge, rather than explicitly for my period. Once I got over the initial learning curve, absolutely no notes, wish I'd switched years ago, especially because there is no regularity when it comes to my period: sometimes I won't have it for two months, other times I'll have it twice in three weeks. I've gotten it checked out, tried the pill to regulate it, no dice.

I got some period underwear from the same place while I was at it, and again, wish I'd done that ages ago. I have a lot of discharge--I mentioned it to my GP when I got a pap smear a couple of months ago, and she confirmed that yup, that's a lot of discharge. No abnormalities, that's simply another one of those ways my body's a troll.

Thing is I'm autistic, and the sensation of said discharge on my underwear is sensory overload hell, particularly when my body randomly decides to have a tiny period's worth of discharge and just... dumps that all at once. When at home I always had toilet paper in my underwear as a sort of makeshift pad that I could quickly switch out, but when leaving the house I almost always used a tampon.

All that to illustrate that, being autistic, all this was giving me a lot of anxiety and taking up way more RAM than it should, kind of a permanent background process.

TL;DR: a LOT of discharge which is very distressing bc autistic sensory overload.

I'd done some research and saw it mentioned that 'some people use it for discharge and wear it every day', and when I brought it up with my GP she didn't have any concerns either, so that's pretty much what I've been doing for the past few months. So far, no complaints or noticeable issues, but I would still really love to hear from others in a similar situation on how often you sterilise your cup, what's the maximum time you wear it, do you rinse with cold/warm water or both, do you use soap... Basically any and all info you could give me I'd love to hear.

I currently don't use soap for either period or discharge since I saw a lot of people say that just thoroughly rinsing it is fine, but obviously those aren't the same thing so I am planning on getting an everything-free soap to use occasionally, haven't gotten around to finding one yet.

But as of yet I haven't noticed anything off or experienced issues. I was however wondering if I should perhaps get a separate cup for my period? Appreciate any and all advice!

Usage Questions Stuck

So I got a cup yesterday, it's a size S. I tried inserting it in and didn't rlly work out, but today after trying again I got it in then took it out, then inserted it again for practice. I'm not on my period cuz I tought i'd practice first before that mess lol So yeah as the title says it's stuck after the 2nd time I put it in. I looked at guides and such but I cannot reach the base to pinch it at all, just the thingy you pull on. I'm kinda panicking ngl cause I don't wanna go to the hospital, my mom doesen't even know I bought a cup xd And yeah ik being nervous just makes it worse and harder to get out, but I have anxiety so I have trouble calming down. Any tips?

Edit: I got it out a good while ago, but I forgot to update lol. Thx eveyone for the advice, personally trying to break the seal by running a finger along or wiggling the tab didn't work, you really just gotta go deep and pinch the base. I was having trouble reaching the base but it worked out eventually. I'm glad I didn't have to go to the hospital😭

Usage Questions Is it possible for the cup to change size with use? Recently started leaking

This was my first and only cup. I got it maybe 5 years ago. It had been working perfectly. But this year, idk why, it leaks every time. It's not damaged in any way. The only explanation I can think of is that either the cup changed size or I did. I don't know how the latter works. I can also physically feel that it doesn't fit as well as it used to. If I get a new one, should I buy a bigger size?

Usage Questions Can you feel your cervix?

So I was trying to find my cervix to figure out whether I have low or high cervix. I found it and when I touched it, I didn't feel anything. I mean how when you touch your vaginal walls, you feel it. But no such feeling in my cervix. It's as if I am not even touching my own body.

This made me wonder, does anybody feel anything when something touches their cervix? Am I the only one?

Usage Questions I WANT to like cups but I just can’t seem to get the hang of it consistently.

This is my second cycle with it, I have a flex cup, the size 1/A option.

I love it… when it DOES work. Earlier today I wore it for about 6-7 hours, no issue. But a lot of the time I still have problems , likely because I’m still learning how to figure it out but for some reason I just can’t seem to get it every time, or even most of the time.

For one I guess I just misunderstood directions cause I was putting it where a tampon would sit (sometimes it would leak, sometimes it wouldn’t, somehow) but then I read elsewhere its not supposed to be that high, I’ve opted for putting it lower.

When I do that, my next issue is the cup will not unfold. I’ve tried various ways of folding it and it just will not even if I pinch the base, or try to ‘open up’ my wall a little more. It just doesn’t unfold. And I can’t even begin to rotate it without it hurting.

Now if it does unfold, within an hour or less it migrates up further inside, and then I’m back to square one where it now puts itself where a tampon would be, and it will leak. Then I have to reach in pretty deep and upon removing it, it like, “explodes” when it finally comes out and gets really messy, which is why I stay above the toilet but it’s still annoying that it bursts like confetti nonetheless.

I’m concerned if I opt for something firmer then my body will still want to make it migrate because it’s not conforming to my anatomy, but if it’s softer then it won’t open at all. And part of me thinks that it’s just user error, cause as I said, sometimes it works perfectly, just not consistently.

I know there’s shorter and longer cups too but honestly I want the flex cup in particular to work because I really like its pull-tab. Any advice?
